Volk got knocked out hard by Islam. Volk knows he got cocky. He knows his fans gave Islam a hard time about the first fight, so Islam told Volks fans he will finish him in round one by knockout to silence them. He did just that. That mentality hurts Volk knowing that the fans made Islam do it. Volk laughed and said it’s never gonna happen. Then it did. So that whole drama will stay in his head. Glad Islam has reached out to him a few times and talked to Volk. Volk seemed better after his loss to Topuria. Mentally he took it better. He bounced back fast on that one. I wish he never took the Islam fight. He should have focused on 145 and Topuria. He knew that was his big fight. This is why Dana is now holding back on guys jumping weight classes for the belt.

@ryanb8736 well it also helps that dustin didn't get smoked as badly. He was still conscious and got up quick. He partially guarded it as well, had he not, probably would've been really bad.

This is one of the best, emotionally stirring interviews I have ever watched! Dustin the Diamond Poirier is a real-life hero. I’m proud to say that he has always been one of my all-time favourite MMA fighters. He has matured beyond his years and is the perfect role model for any up and coming MMA fighter. Through the years, I’ve put up numerous posts showing my appreciation and support for him and never once have I ever doubted his skills. He is truly special - a warrior who brings it every time he steps into the octagon. I am not a fortune-teller, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he finally achieves his life-long dream of becoming the undisputed champion of the UFC lightweight division. I know of no other fighter who deserves it more than he does. Can you imagine what it would be like if he became champ using the elusive guillotine? I’d most probably be dancing in celebration for more than a week! I can even visualize producers scrambling to make a movie on his life! Seriously, I hope and pray that God will soon grant his wish to finally achieve his ultimate dream inside the octagon.

Man that end bit on therapy and opening up: "lifes deep man and fighting is something i do" got me crying here. So powerful to hear a certified tough guy share this deeply. Dustin is a great mentor to boys and men. For me it was acting. Acting was my life. If i did well i felt amazing if I was out of work or didnt get the applause i was in deep shame and darkness. The reliance on one thing to provide me with self worth was not healthy. And yet the darkness also led me to the light, the gratitude and new perspective i sense Dustin now has. Love to you brother! Great interview Ariel. I like the questions and how you just kind of let Dustin talk and you just help bring the conversation wherever its going.

Dustin wasn’t worried about Benoits wrestling strength. He fought with Khabib and Charles, so he’s felt much more strength with them.

Watching Dustin in this interview, you can definitely tell he has left a lot of his soul in that ufc octagon. He wasn’t lying when he said “a piece of me dies each time I fight”. You can hear it in his speech. Hope he can get a hold of that belt, but it’s tough to root against Charles.

Eloquent and real dude. One of my favorite fighters ever. I’ve followed his career since the smaller local shows he fought on as a young guy. Resilient and talented. Strong mindset. Hope he gets one more shot at the title.

How awesome of an interview! I played college baseball and got to compete against a couple thousand and that was a rush but never was I more nervous than a regular game. I put all my money on dustin and omalley no questions asked. Thank you fellas for the hard work. Its unimaginable to most.

Ariel i am impressed with the way you handled Dustin talking about his emotions and mental space after the Gaethje loss. You were inquisitive yet compassionate, and you also pushed it towards a more positive direction like asking: Losses can happen again, what do we do about it next time? asking good questions and allowing Dustin to express himself. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to. I know Dustin probably felt great after he closed his laptop talking to you

Always like Dustin’s interviews he keeps it real, I know through some of my own stuff going through combat, after you make it through something you realize how life is but also you realize crap I was in a darker spot than I thought, life’s a journey for sure.

They say gratefulness and fear can't exist at the same time. It sounds like Porier's mindset in this fight was a testament to that.

Dustin the thing you have to remember is fighting is such a small part of who you are now, you’re a husband, father, a businessman, the head of a charity and so much more! We look at you as so much more than a fighter.. we cheer because of the person you are and not the outcome! You are one of a kind

I'm a BSD fan but Dustin you're a wise man with a golden heart, a truly great guy. And your boxing is stellar, good lesson you gave to Benoît for the future. This KO will make him more dangerous, he will finally listen to his coach and work on his boxing defense. For the lack of power in his strikes and kicks, I think that he was low energy from the start. Now he needs an 8 months break to recover and progress. 4 fights in a year he did.
