I have my Poseidon Fin Finder compound bow’s power turned all the way up. The reel is a bottle reel. By far the line is the most strongest and toughest one I’ve ever had. I’ve noticed that if my arrow doesn’t blow through a carp all the way. It gets ripped out easily. But if it goes all the way through. I’m not losing it.
@DustinApple4 жыл бұрын
The Poseidon was a great bow. The key to landing more fish is making smaller holes. You never want the arrow to blow all the way through but the goal is to get the point through. If your arrow isn't tuned, if your tip is sharp its going to make a much larger hole and no bowfishing point works good after a big hole is made. Try tuning for good arrow flight and get a sharper point. Then turn the weight down until you stop blowing all the way through. Its a domino effect.

I know this is a old video, but I’m hoping for you to answer the following questions. I’m a medically retired firefighter and thanks to YT I’m kicking around the idea of bowfishing. I’m looking for a low-Med entry point bow, reel etc. I’m 6’. 280lbs. Some say a really big guy. I would pull with my right hand so, I guess I need a right handed bow? I like the idea of a smaller bow like the bear odyssey. Please, let me know if you see this.
@DustinApple3 жыл бұрын
Get a bowfishing specific bow. Yes right hand. Look at a Cajun sucker punch or a PSE mud dawg. As shown in this video 30-35# is ideal.

Cant you take the reels off of most of the bowfishing bows? I may just buy a nice looking recurve bow with the reel on it and take it off.
@DustinApple6 жыл бұрын
B&M Outdoors all reels are removable yes. But they are also sold individually as well as in a kit. Contact Scott @ bowfishing extreme .com and tell him I sent you. He will take care of all your needs. Stay safe.

can you bowfish with a 60 lb bow
@DustinApple5 жыл бұрын
Yep you can but its pretty unnecessary unless you're hunting large fish. Find a bow you can shoot unlimited times without wearing out. White fiberglass arrows are going to be pretty weak and hard to tune at 60# too.

Ok thanks

why wouldent you shoot a higher poundage...i shoot 3D courses and dots where i shoot a few hundred shots at a time at 65# - 70#. Don't understand the reasoning of shooting a 35 pounds bow
@DustinApple5 жыл бұрын
Because it's a waste. You only need to get the point to go through the back side of a fish. With 1500gr arrows small fish on the surface only require 20# to get that done. While big fish that are deeper may require as much as 40#. Accuracy,consistency, and stamina are key. You could shoot as much as 1500 shots a night bowfishing is good conditions, witch is far more physically demanding than shooting 40 3D targets. Higher poundage will blow a arrow all the way through a fish making it harder to remove while the line itself is left to attempt to hold it. Big powerful fish will cut themselves in half if the line is the only thing holding them. When you miss a fish with high poundage you are definitely going to hit something else. Trying to recover $15-30 arrows from mud,roots,logs,and vegetation is challenging and expensive if the line breaks before the arrow is pulled free. For all the reasons given shoot a bow only as heavy as necessary and as light as possible.

i always love to see a cheap bow perform well. in PSE's bowfishing bows most of them are sold as a single weight 29,40,50# models. the bows have a good amount of preload on them and that is why they are able to shoot a heavy arrow so well. As a rule of thumb recognizing preload can be as simple a looking at how much curve is in the limb at a certain weight. and is why most bow manufactures recommend shooting a bow at peak weight.
