FYI: Just received my SPARK and went though the updates last night. If you have the COMBO pack you'll receive two (2) batteries. You'll want to update your SPARK and firmware for EACH BATTERY before you fly and use them. You'll get a warning on the DJI GO software when you install the other battery that an update is needed. Again, do this before you fly!

Although I have heard great things about the spark, when the mavic mini came out, I instantly knew which one to buy. Having the physical connection between the transmitter and the phone is much better than a WiFi signal.

I have both the Spark and the Mini, and I personally much prefer the Spark, more solidly built and I use a cable between the controller and my phone, just like the mini,No wifi connection needed! I put my phone on airplane mode.the spark has the obstacles avoidance and the mini does not. One thing I do like about the mini is the slightly longer run time per battery. My spark has 5 batteries.

Just bought one on the back of your reviews. Excellent channel by the way. I was torn between this and the mavic air but the air is twice the price and is no way twice as good. I'm not fussed about 4k video at the moment so the spark seems ideal for what I want. Just under £400 for the fly more set with a discount. Didn't want to pay anymore than that really.

I dabbled in self build quads using hobbyking kk2.1 & 3DR APM years ago as fly fpv fixed wing occasionally. They have come a long way since then! It's now basically a self flying camera, makes you wonder what they'll do in another 5 years. A flying mobile phone I suspect.

DJI actually has several "HowTo" videos on how to get thru the Update Procedure. Perhaps had you watched them before you attempted the update "on the fly", it would have gone more smoothly. Looking forward to your flight review. Mahalo!

In a perfect world. They do not cover many necessary tweeks that must be performed to go thru that process...turning on and off cellular data....having to reconnect from one thing to another in this process of getting set up. Many other issues.

U can connect the phone to the controller by using an OTG cable. Using an OTG cable increases the distance that u can fly.

Just got mine from DJI! Yea! I took one week from the day I ordered it to the day it came to the door Really Fast! I bought the fly more combo. Not disappointed! It didn't even need a firmware update! Charge the batteries and fly. Not bad video or pictures!I should do a video but I get to excited and tear the box apart and fly! I was absolutely confuse too during the set up process. They should make your video as official one to watch before setting up. I, too, the firmware update stuck at 99%, just press the home button on the ipad and reconnect to homeserver wifi to complete the process.

Dustin, my Spark gets a "choppy and delayed" connection on the WiFi between the controller and smartphone or tablet. Interested to see if you experience the same problem. I called DJI they told me to look for a clear channel using the app. My results have been mixed.

Soulztooth To get rid of the video delay use a direct connection through the micro USB plug. You may have to get an adapter micro USB to USB female to make the connection but it will be well worth it!

Thanks for the tip, I already thought of this and called DJI. They told me that the micro USB was only for charging. I just bought the adapter on Amazon. I will let you know if it works!

Oh, I know it works. you can search KZbin and find other videos of people doing it. This is also how they connect DJI's goggles to the spark.

Yes, as long as you have the latest update for the goggles and the spark done it will work perfectly.

Dustin Excellent excellent excellent & very informative video !!! One thing I have seen on other videos about the Spark is that you can plug in to the controller a OTG USB cable & A mini USB to USB cable into the Smartphone to get a hard line attachment so you don't have to rely on the WiFi signal ... Also when doing updates on the unit plug in to the unit so not to loose power drane on battery & maybe just maybe it won't take as long to update with a " wire atached" !! I just ordered a spark yesterday. After watching this update it seems like I may have made a mistake. Seems like a pita! I have many hobby grade drones and an old fc40 DJI Phantom FC-40 that's heavily modded but none of them are a pita like this Spark or any newer DJI drone seems to be! I got it used with the fly more combo + a remote and better case for $180. It only has 3 flights on it! Looks new. We will see how it goes. If nothing else I can sell it for a decent profit. I'll more than likely keep it.

Read the instruction and had no issues. The gimble has 2 axis stabilization as it states in the written info... if you tethered the phone to the controller using a cable you could have left your phones wifi connected to your home wifi, and you would have had a smoother update. Once again if all else fails, read the instructions.

Very detailed set-up video, I followed along as I unboxed my Spark and got it set-up. I had the same confusing software update process as you, it was a little different on a IOS device (iPhone), some steps were easier but it still took forever and the update got stuck. But after over a hour of messing around with it all was good a had successful test flight in the driveway. Another great video, thanks for posting.

I watched a video where someone combined a cable from his Phantom four with white usb/mini usb cable than comes with the Spark and he was able to contact his phone to the TX like this. And the wifi turned off and he connected through usb cable. So you can do it, if can find the video again I will post the link. I'm looking forward to your test flight video.

Fast forward to the last five minutes of this video, he demo's how to connect the Spark to the TX via the USB cables and it cancels wifi and use the hardwire connection instead.

Hey Dustin, nice to see the Spark setup; but my god i hate dji updates... Having dealt with both the P3 advanced and the Mavic, i can honestly say that Dji should work on their software upgrades. The process should be simpler and they should regroup them and do like one a month. At some point, it felt like there was an update every two days on the Mavic... We all want and appreciate new features, as well as bug fixes, but it needs to be streamlined. Looking forward to the flight review, and hoping for a quick comparison between the mavic's footage and the spark's!

I have had an awful job despite watching your video several times. I have my spark unable to turn off despite going wrong with the setup. I hope I haven't damaged it but the only way to turn the spark off is by disconnecting its battery. I am completely new to DJI so disconnecting the battery is the only way I could switch it off. Any additional help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I still have my RedCat Racing 1:10 scale trucks, in running condition, from 6 years ago and the Carbon has me curious how well they migrated over from the ground based vehicles. The Bugs is nice too, my Bugs 3 is such a blast, so I am already pretty hopeful that this version is an upgrade, but for as nice as it (the 3) flies I'm not sure how they can make it better. Thanks again for your videos, quite informative and entertaining.

Like the video, but unfortunately the steps for activation (or anything else relative to my Spark) do not work. Can't activate, can't link to the RC, can't do anything except watch the rear motors flash green and the front ones glow red!. Followed your steps to the T, but my drone's camera never rotates up, and the Go 4 App never gives me an option to Activate. Now in fairness, I do not have an SD card as yet, no store in my town, but would not think the card for photos/videos is required for Activation and flight without recording. $500+ spent, 6 days ownership, Flight time - 0!

.Can you use fat sharks with the Spark I have the DJI googles and I have a pair of fat sharks. I use the DJI googles with my phantom 4 pro. There big and bulky but have a great picture. Just wondering. Probably not.

The update? You can see it's quite frustrating to go back and forth with wifi. Use an OTG cable and connect directly it seems for more ease.
