I bought mine last year and I stripped the servo the first time it crashed and the props were down like yours. I replaced them. Maybe they have better servos now as you did that multiple times without stripping the gears. I've since ordered servos w metal gears but have yet to install them. Its so much fun to fly.

Thanks for your excellent tag along video review. I have one coming soon. I was told to stay away from the suggested 1300 mAh upgrade batteries, because they're bigger than stock and won't fit without removing foam. Also, It looks like the X450 won't handle any wind, so perhaps get some altitude before going into plane mode. And, looks like there's some servo lag time returning the motors to horizontal. So I'll plan accordingly.

I have this bird. I recommend ONLY using airplane mode if you (the plane I mean) are really high; and if you do, be ready to bail out into quad mode fast because there is delay in the transition/stability. This thing is super easy to break when you crash in airplane mode, even at low altitude. I've had to replace the plastic parts and servos. But still a fun plane to have. You were very lucky with your crashes. Good tip about unplugging the battery to realign the actuator assys.

Batmo Juice I agree. I crashed on my 4th day 1st try in airplane mode (totally new to rc). Plane caught on fire and fried the esc. I now have to wait for a new esc from China. Do you have any idea for replacement parts that can be had in the States? It was a lot of fun while it lasted

Nice job Dustin, I have had this plane for a while now and it is a lot of fun to fly. When you switch to 6G mode, just go higher to give yourself enough room to maneuver.

I have the xk520, but haven't flown it yet. No room to fly here in Atlanta, Georgia, unless I travel into another town, like Marietta. It's so congested here... Thanks for sharing my friend. I can remember 2 to 3 years ago when you were ripping those quads there.

Just flown mine, and I love it. I have it for over a 6 months now. First thing I did was changing servos for metal gear one. I also like to fly it with little fpv camera on its nose, that I atached to it. It is so much fun flying 3D plane mode, and what I love about it is that if you panic you simply press this red button again and it will auto level itself👍 Great review Dustin 👍

I have two of these, they are now my fav plane for fun flying anywhere BUT you gotta learn the modes. I suggest slow and practice alot. I have hundreds of flights so far, never crashed once. Slow n steady wins the race.

Thanks for reviewing this awesome aircraft. The red button only works in airplane mode, turning it from stabilized to fully aerobatic mode. I would also recommend getting some altitude before switching to airplane mode, this little thing really moves. Totally awesome fpv flyer as well.

Drone Camps RC has the fix ie. replace stock servos with metal gear servos. I really wanted to get one of these. (I fly both planes and quadcopters). Then I saw every reviewer destroy the servos after one crash. Then soon after the price went up $40. So I passed. PS. Be nice if XK would do the servo upgrade instead of continuing to sell the x450 without addressing the issue.

put it in 6G mode and give more altitude when going to plane mod, then its almost impossible to have it make jerky moves down. more altitude, more time to correct. great vid.

What mode are you used to and what mode is it switching to? I suspect you are used to mode 1 and it’s switching to mode 2.

Red button is stabilization off in plane mode (its called 3D mode) which allowes you to do rolls and barrels, all nice stuff:)

I think I'm like a lot of people. I started my foray into RC flight with Co-Axials. Then migrated to wuads/drones. Followed by FPV aircraft. Then when the tiny AIO cameras came out, almost everything became FPV. Bu adding only 7 grams one can make almost anything into FPV. I added a Wolfwhoop AIO to the Firefox fixed pitch flybarless heli. The lens is in the nose of the canopy. A little 50mA lipo under the stock batt. No real change in aerodynamics. 2 minutes less flight time. But its SOOOO COOOL I think the battery mounted below the stock COG made it more stable!!! Only added 6 grams. I found a 33mA batt supposed to weigh .6 gm. Only %2, so gonna try one. The 70mA weighs 1.4. Should last as long as it flies?

My X450 update. Now my tail rotor can't spin properly. In summary ,since I got this X450, the main board smoke without any reason. After replacing the main board, the left rotor don't spin properly due to a faulty esc. I flew a few flight and now the tail rotor don't spin properly. Did I get a lemon X450?

What's good about these VTOL aircraft is you can take off and land anywhere then fly like a plane. Looks like you just need to get higher while in plane mode. I bet with more altitude you wouldn't be crashing. It can go higher I imagine?

Well, it's definitely 'different'. I can see a few weak points .. especially the clevises & hardware which moves the motors back & forth. Those props don't look like they'd take a cement crash, so best to fly this over a grassy field. I guess it's worth the $100 price, but it would be a better value if it came with at least 2 batteries. Looks to be too sensitive in 'airplane' mode, so you have to have a light hand on the stick. I had to smile when you mentioned the Eneloop rechargeable batteries ... they really are very good, and I use them myself. They have a very long charged shelf life with good capacity. Not sure that this will bring XK Innovations a better "cash flow" .. they seem to have dropped out of the quadcopter market. Cheers!

I like this concept besides this is a toy. It is a triquad drone and a plane. It is good if it helps to save battery power. Can we imagine a plane like Parrot Disco with this option of landing and taking off like a multirotor drone?

Pretty durable and cool Tri-copter/aircraft thingy lol... flight controller programmer has done an epic job though... looks like he got it right.. Does it have a C of G at all?? thinking aeroplane mode is looking tail heavy hence the difficult to control you simply don't have with quads? hmmm Would break my brain though as I fly fixed wing mode 2, Heli's and Quads mode 1.. don't ask... just works for me lol.. XK have some very well sorted micro Heli's too. Awesome review mate!!

It's totally worth your money. I am still having fun with this thing. I own it for 2 years now. Only damage came afther 3d mode with the red button. I should have switched to m-mode to save it. Damage: nose dented and 2 front props broken. But that was fixed easily.

Great plane, I have it for a year. And plane mode is quite hard, if you are not regular plane flyer, or better to say, if you mostly flying drones, like I do. While I'm figuring out how to make here decent FPV system, not just putting some Eachine TX04 AIO camera. For me most important thing at FPV is to have battery voltage OSD information. Without that info I think flying FPV is not safe. Good luck. (Y)

The first time to fly an airplane for me, I thought it was a blast. I've got many upper classed drones and considering the 3 modes and the price it is fantastic deal and fairly easy to fly. I swear it had to have got up to over 60mph! That was the first flight and crashed when I slowed down. Still e=waiting for parts, but cant' wait to get it up in the air again. I already learned how not to crash.;-)

Sorry i'm not very literate about the airplanes. I think maybe they're called tail wings? ailerons? Anyhow the 2 things you had to install with screws need to be reversed. My flies fine at lower speed.I had it about 70' and holy smoke is that thing fast. I'm gonna put a gps speedometer on it. CAN"T WAIT!!!!

Hello its a nice Airplane , the first you have to do everytime before you flay put him on the ground and the two sticks move then to the left side ,so you calibrate the flightcontroler . The red bottom is when you flay in Airplanemode for to take away the 6 axis to 3 × for flsy in acrobatics . I put then Lipos Gens 1300mph 3S do you have more time for fun . Oh, I meant to say that this kinda reminds me of my, ( don't laugh), Air Hogs VTOL. A tilt wing airplane/Co-Axial heli? Whatever it is. In airplane mode, ya push a button and the wings and 2 co-ax motors flip up vertically. Push again, they flip back horizontally. It actually flies okay. Wow!!!! That thing is pretty fast. Definitely no6a backyard flier. Ya my, like the Night Vapor or a Duet or Twin Explorer. Those I can fly in my backyard. Too many trees. That's why I fly mostly quads/drones. Well.........You did it!!!! It's your fault I gotta get one of these. I think it's too fast for beginners though.

I was offered a sponser by Mikado in 04 which I turned down Mikado becouse I was just flying r c helicopters for 3 year's because at the Birmingham Alabama Fun Fly my logo 10'$ tail belt broke at around 200 feet so I climbed up to 500 feet and autoed it in and super soft landing but the gear landing gear broke and Henry Caldwell begged me for my Hacker B-12 and 80 amp Castle Creations speed control but I invented getto night flight because I flew her at the motel everyone that was there for the Fun Fly was in the same motels but I fly hardcore 3D which I fly hardcore 3D I have pictures with Curtis Youngblood and Jason krous, one of my best friends in Scott Grey. My name is Jason Falcon 76 but I've been flying r c helicopters since 01 but I switched to XK because of there ease I have like 7 radios from all the XK 110,120'$ 3 130'$ the other day I was flying beautiful with my XK 130 and doing hard 3D out of no we're I settled in ,in a regular hover and my Helicopter dropped 1 foot to the ground and the blades seperating which I can only find one blade and spindle but can't find the other blade and blade holder I have a plethora of parts so it's no big deal but I'm going to order this another 120 because they fly perfect the 130 is a bit much it feels to delicate when doing hard 3D but I have it custom so nothing can happen now just decided to use green locktite.

I believe your crashes were due to being in 3D mode. It’s like the x350. It can reverse rotor direction to fly upside down etc. it this case the whole rotor assy points down instead of reversing the motors. It actually has a stunt mode.
