❤Also released 35 years ago today, on 13 February 1989, was another classic tune from another classic diva - Dusty Springfield’s “Nothing Has Been Proved”. Written for her by Pet Shop Boys it also featured in the movie “Scandal” which was all about the 1963 sex scandal in British politics. The single hit #16 and the original PSB demo of it was released in 2001. RIP Dusty.❤

Welcome, Gil! This song was produced for the 1989 film "Scandal," which starred John Hurt. Joanne Whalley and Sir Ian McKellen and fictionalized 1963's "Profumo Affair" (The movie in turn was based on the 1987 book "Honeytrap" by Anthony Summers). Having Miss Dusty sing this was absolute genius since she was already well-known at the time of the Profumo incident. See it if you get a chance -- it's a great film!

Makes me happy that people are still discovering the incredible Dusty Springfield, thanks largely to the PSB. The first time I heard Dusty S. in the mid 60s I was a fan, and it's my turn to be ashamed that I only really started listening to the PSB 6 months ago. Neil Tenant has said that he and Chris saw George in Ibiza once and George had high praise for this record. It is indeed classic: which is more impressive considering how specifically topical and wordy it is. You can hear how Dusty manages wordy songs (which she always did so well): she sings it in syllables and with great musicality.
