Very special talent , also in production of her songs , she had everything beautiful, a great voice and stood up for herself , and a great live performer. I recently watched a programme about her and was mesmerized at what a natural and fun live performer she was.

UK's greatest ever female singer, Dusty could sing anything and this song by Carole King brings out the best in her voice, so sad she's no longer with us RIP Dusty you were the best

This is absolute class and is up there with the likes of Maxine Brown and Baby Washington,Dusty could mix it with the best that America had to offer.

This was Dusty's favorite recording. They don't make stylists like her anymore...……….of course, nothing is good as it was in that unreal fantastic era of the 1960s.
@neuberg73158 жыл бұрын
This single was released in Sept 1965 ; the song was written by Carol King. This bit of film shows how iconic Dusty Springfield was at the time. Hearing her singing this on his car radio (in the States) persuaded Jerry Wexler to pursue her to record for Atlantic - which she did 3 years later : Dusty in Memphis. What a lady ,what a talent.
@nicknicely63153 жыл бұрын
For me her made in UK run of hits far surpasses the US work where she lost control of her productions and was intimidated by the soul myths so much she could often barely sing . This is wonderful example of Dusty paying homage to the American greats...actually going there into an unfamiliar world and working practice killed her vibe . Dusty in Memphis was not made in Memphis , poor girl had crises in the studio there and her largely lame US albums disappoint imo .

Taken from "Ready! Steady! Go!" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ready_Steady_Go%21?wprov=sfla1) Only snippets from it survive due to being broadcast live or outside studio pre-recorded segments being wiped or destroyed by the BBC as a "cost saving measure" to minimise the need for storage archives and reuse film mediums that allowed where possible. The above looks like a kinscope recording (basically placing a film camera in front of a studio monitor and recording the footage from the screen - tape reproduction and duplication were not really a thing until the early 70s - even then it didn't catch on until the early 80s widely).

Dusty said she was always a "scared soul"...wanted to be in love with a man but was frightened of them and turned to women as her romantic interst. She suffered greatly in her life, with drugs and her very destructive relationships with women. Her goal was to be involved in a hetrosexual relationship and suffered because she never attained her dream.
@nancyblake10004 жыл бұрын
Well... No. She was always a lesbian but could never reconcile her innate sexuality with the dogmas of the Roman Catholic faith she was raised within. She hated affecting a heterosexual pretense but was obligated to due to the conservative attitudes of the time. Her sexuality didn't damage her , it was the prejudices of the time and dogmas of Catholicism (of which she remained a life long adherent) that did that. She seemed like a very sweet soul and such a talent. I'm so sorry she never found the woman who she could've had a happy life with and shaken off the ingrained Catholicism.
@nancyblake10004 жыл бұрын
@@tao6085 she never had enduring intimate relationships with men, I think she liked men as friends though - her closet and most trusted friends were gay men. She "came out" rather bravely in an interview in the late 60s / early 70s as bisexual, that was likier a way to sort of appese a prevailing orthodoxy of the time rather than reflective of who she was was.. much in the same way Elton John came out as "bi" and married a woman for appearances. It's immaterial though. She was extremely talented - her music magical.
