We started a bunch more hydroponic Dutch (aka Bato) buckets today and planted some cucumber, broccoli and cauliflower seedlings. We go through basically step by step on how to grow them, but I'll include the link to our first Dutch bucket set up video below. I showed a few updates in the greenhouse, like the beans and microgreens. We also went to the feed mill to fill up the gravity wagon and then I made some crunchy kale chips. Recipe link below too. Thanks for watching!

Hi Devon, love your videos, keep them coming. Do you have any issues with perlite/vermiculite clogging the drain pipes? Do you also have to angle your greenhouse flooring for the bato bucket system to work?
@HomegrownPassion
@HomegrownPassion 2 жыл бұрын
No problems yet with clogging...the bato buckets have a u drain in the bottom which prevents loss of medium. Yes the entire greenhouse is built with a grade slope back. Have seen many bato bucket systems built on frames which are sloped in the direction need if the floor is level...hope that answers your question.

We have seen that the vermiculite layer helps hold in moisture while the bottom and top layer of perlite keeps the roots aerated and healthy. It has also really helped reduce blossom end rot on the tomatoes.

The algea doesn't grow in them, especially when we use the lids. The broccoli and cauliflower will probably have a little growth on the top, but it shouldnt get too bad because the plants should grow big enough to shade the growing medium.

Nice video but I was really concerned when I saw your mom pouring the perlite like that, you should know that the dust can be really damaging to lungs long term, as our bodies can't really get rid of it very well (don't trust me, always do your own research). Standard practice (I know it will add some effort) is to wet the perlite before using, that way the dust can't get into the air. Masks can work too but I'd worry about it collecting in the greenhouse and getting into the air as you do your thing.
