Take the strap and soak it with olive oil then put the knife in and stretch the strap to close the strap around the knife and let it dry it should dry in 24 to 72 hours and will be wet molded to fit the knife.

Will give it a shot! I think it might stretch to fit. But I think it will still be hard to hard to open and close it with one hand when it is on the belt. However, will try. Thanks!

Great review, and knife too. I have a couple of different types ordered directly from BPS to the UK. Took a couple of weeks to arrive. Both sheaths are excellent and as you stated fit other knives obv size dependant. Thanks for sharing.

I did have the same problem with my sheath but also, as you did, fixed it by putting the jnife in the standard BPS sheath. Now the retention is great.

My DBK showed up yesterday. It's my third BPS knife, and probably the least well finished so far. Mine is one of the older ones and well, and the sheath is also poorly fitted. But that's not a huge problem. I've got an extra pouch style sheath that fits it fine. Also I've got to say that my other two BPS knives have pouch style sheaths that work fine out of the box. I think I am going to make a nice kydex sheath for mine this summer so I can carry it higher and more closely to the body. My Bushmate came with the tang standing proud of the scales just a tiny bit in places, and the scales were a bit rougher finished than I like. It's not really a big deal, though. Five minutes with a piece of 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper had the handle smoothed out and feeling fine. I refinished it with a 50/50 blend of boiled linseed oil and shellac, applied in five coats. The blade has some kind of clear coat on it that needs to be removed, but I think some acetone will take it off easily. The edge arrived sharp, but needed some work to get hair-popping. I put it on an 800 grit Japanese waterstone and a strop with Bark River green compound and it's now got a really nice biting edge. Like all the BPS knives, it sharpens easily and takes a very nice edge, even if it won't last as long as more premium steels. But you can sharpen it on a river rock if necessary, and in my experience, the BPS knives will keep their edges long enough to get you through a full length camping trip without needing anything more than the occasional stropping at most. I like the grind on the Bushmate, preferring a saber grind to a scandi myself, and think the DBK boys designed a good knife. It's bigger than the little BS1FT I've been EDCing for the last month, but smaller than the bigger B1 model, which puts it in a sweet spot for EDC. The pouch sheath I'm currently using for it is decent, but once I get it in kydex, I think I'll like it even more than the BS1FT for carrying around my current stomping grounds.

Thanks for the detailed sharing! I'm sure lots can use it as a guide to refine their knives. I find the 1066 doesn't hold an edge but touches up very easily with the strop as you mentioned. And good for field sharpening too.

I don't understand how a snap would fix that. A snap could have the same problem your sheath has but would be more difficult to fix. At least with your sheath, you can make a new hole and then figure out a way to reinforce it so it doesn't tear out, as you pointed out in your assessment of the problem.

I mean, if they remake the sheath. I think a snap might be easier to gauge during production, has more tolerance for a slightly lose fit but still hold the knife securely and more importantly, be easier to disengage and engage with one hand when it is one the belt. I also generally don't like wrap around retention straps as the blade tends to cut them over time.
