Great to see you actually went to a snackbar, thats about as local as you can get. Its basically what you guys would call a diner but a bit more limited, mostly just deep fried stuff and sandwiches. The bitterballen and kroketten are filled with ragout, usually the beef beef or veal variety. Its made with roux, a butter and flour mixture, and then stock is added to give it this thick gooey texture. And yeah, its typically enjoyed with fries and mayo. Or just as a bar snack with a beer. Dutch food isnt anything fancy, its just simple filling stuff mostly, but still nice when its fresh and hot.

Thank you! When they didn't accept my credit card, I knew I was in for, as they say in the American South, some "down home cooking". They held my order as I went the ATM in Albert Heijn for euros.

In the Netherlands we are whit 18 miljoen people. And more than 23 miljoen bikes. I have 2 bikes. 2 old mopads. And my wife has a bike for the wheelchair.
