The Ding Dongs were a good memory for me because when they came on me and my dad would laugh. Once the one guy was ringing the bell and it fell to the floor and i thought my dad would piss himself laughing at them.

Jim Herd was an executive at KPLR-TV Channel 11 in St. Louis, which produced 'Wrestling at the Chase' alongside NWA President Sam Muchnik. So, he had a background in wrestling and television, albeit mostly through his association with The St. Louis Wrestling Club and station owner Ed Koplar. It's also why Herd picked the real city of Belleville, IL ( a nearby suburb of STL) as the hometown of the fictional team, The Ding Dongs. ("bell"... get it?) And yes, before joining WCW, he did become an executive for Pizza Hut, NOT a store manager or anything like that. I believe he was a regional VP for the chain in the midwest area. So it wasn't like he was in there, flipping pies or making deliveries.

Not quite, Herd was Sales Manager as a station (KPLR) that happened to have a hot wrestling show, as far as I know he never had any direct involvement with Muchnik.

@@FerretJohn According to Jim Ross he asked Muchnik for advice when he was running WCW. That is like asking Benny Goodman advice on playing rock and roll, and I don't mean that as an insult to either Muchnik or Ross.

@@FerretJohn - With all due respect, sir. Larry Matysik was a friend of mine, and I knew from when I was very young. I actually wrote a eulogy for him on behalf of his best friend. All families involved are associated with mine. So I am only speaking from what I remember that I was told years ago. Herd did have some involvement with the show at times, but as you stated, was not really a factor in any of its success. That's what I was told as a teenager when he was President of WCW.
@Matt-cr4vv
@Matt-cr4vv Жыл бұрын
Yes he had experience in the sense of being an executive for a station that produced a wrestling show. And he was an executive of Pizza Hut in the sense that he had a friend who owned a region of Pizza Hut stores and he ran the region for his friend. So he had some experience in the sense of he’d helped out out a show and yes he wasn’t a guy flipping pizzas or something but either way he wasn’t anywhere near qualified to be in the role that he was in at WCW. Producing a wrestling show while working at a network is nothing close to being qualified to be involved in things like creative, managing a roster or negotiating their pay and the like. He had invoclement sure but zero wrestling experience in the things that are most important in wrestling like the creative of the show and managing the roster.

Yeah he really messed up handling Ric Flair. I guess no one told Herd that Ric was the only reason Ted Turner bought NWA in the first place. Turner wanted Flair, Herd chased him away and didn't even have sense to get the belt back. 😒 😕

It was Ted Turner that brought Jim Herd in, Turner had just bought WCW from the Crocketts and hired Herd as the GM. Herd was a decent administrator but he had no idea how to run a wrestling show, closest he ever got to wrestling was that he once was Sales Manager for a TV station in St. Louis that happened to have a hot wrestling show, he sought to turn WCW into what he viewed as pro wrestling, the over-the-top cartoon characters that the WWF was showing, not understanding that WCW was supposed to be the alternative. He made the Ding Dongs which got over like a lead balloon, he proposed the Hunchbacks (two guys with prosthetic humps on their back, their gimmick being that their shoulders couldn't be pinned) that got shot down, he drove off a number of wrestlers including the Road Warriors and the Midnight Express. But his biggest issue and eventual downfall came with Ric Flair, he thought Flair was passe and wanted him gone as Champion, even though Flair was their biggest draw by far, he wanted someone big and muscular like Luger holding the belt, at one time he wanted Flair to shave off his signature blond locks, dress up as a Roman Gladiator, and call himself Spartacus. After awhile Herd fired Flair but failed to reclaim the world title which Flair was holding, allowing the Nature Boy to show up in the WWF with the belt, giving WCW a massive black eye, Herd was fired a month later.

Spoken like a truly clueless mark, who sucks up everything Meltzer pukes out. No, the Hunchbacks were never planned to be a thing and no, Flair was never supposed to be Spartacus. Spartacus was a gimmick thrown around back then, because WCW was forced to do all sorts of dumb movie stuff after TBS purchased classic movies and got into movie production (hence why Robocop and Oz happened) Besides, the head booker at the time was Ole Anderson, not Jim Herd. Herd didn't like Flair and thought he made too much money. That was all. The reason why he didn't like Flair,was because he would constantly throw tamper tantrums when he was told to drop a belt or do a job. Get a grip and inform yourself instead of remaining a clueless idiot. It's embarassing.

Yes, if they pay you the 90 days obviously they can say no compete. If they give you benefits which last the 90s, they can say no compete. If you're a contracted employee basically, they can say 90 day no compete. If you're an independent contractor though, no, the no compete is bullshit. I don't even know why that had to be stated more than once. If you've got no dates for an independent contractor, well you wanted independent contractors, deal with it!
