I have send a poffertjes pan to a friend of mine in the US. He makes them now so many times for his kids and makes them on independence day for the kids living in his neighborhood. These kids can't wait until independence day comes. 😆

Ha, the rain makes a lot of our foods so much better. Individually the weather is bad, and the food is meh, but together, when the weather is cold/rainy, the food warms the inside, it is very nice to eat 'stamppot' in the cold.

A friend of mine has parents who are from Holland. I love that salty Dutch licorice. Ammonium chloride is what is on their licorice.

Not strange that it is somewhat ammonia tasting to you, as the salt used is not regular NaCl table salt, but ammonium chloride NH4Cl.

The chocolate kisses are similar to something we have in the UK called "Wallnut Whips" - chocolate shells with a whipped eggwhite/sugar centre, only topped with a candied wallnut and without the waffle at the base. Wallnut Whips are my adoptive mother's favpurite and I bought her several different varieties/flavours for Christmas.

@@joielai7571 That must be Tunnock's Chocolate Tea Cakes - whipped egg white and sugar in a chocolate shell with a biscuit base. The ones in red coloured foil are milk chocolate and the blue foil wrapped ones are dark chocolate - both very yummy,, especially with a hot drink :)

Amsterdam was on my bucket list when I made plans years ago but then 9/11 happened and I never did go there. I've had the herring and onions (yum) but would love to try the poffertjes with a steaming cup of coffee. Amsterdam is still on my list of places to visit so thank you for this video.

Stroopwafels don't have caramell in them, it is stroop, it is more like melasses. It is a product from the sugarbeet. It is not burned sugar, than it would taste differently.

The way i eat haring is cut 1 into small pieces, pluck every miniscule bone from it (you can eat those normally but i dont like the texture). cut some onion and tomato, add 2 spoons of mayonaise (not the belgian sour one but sweet one) Mix it up, and put it on a sandwich. Believe me, it may not sound great but its 1000x better than just a haring with onion.
