Greetings gents, I just wanted to comment on this video. Years ago after extensive research and back and forth trying to justify the expense I bought the F1 g10 version. (I didn’t have a lot of money at the time, $99 was expensive for me) So being so excited when I finally received it, I ran out to use it. I gathered wood to carve and start a fire, pulled the knife out and stuck it into a stump to crouch down and get positioned and then pulled it out only for the tip to break off. I thought I may have hit a rock or something in the wood but no there was nothing. You could only imagine the disappointment. When I contacted Fallkniven they told me that the tip was not covered under the warranty due to misuse. It broke off about a 1/4 inch. This inspired me to make my own knife.

I'd say the F1. Elmax is the better steel but the F1 overall is the better knife. Also the laminate on the Vg-10 does pretty well against salt but you should definitely dry it after use with salt water

@DutchBushcraftKnives8 жыл бұрын
It looks like a very usable and capable blade! I like that Helle puts a lot of handwork in their knives. 12c27 might be a cheaper steel but still very much worth it in a Helle knife. I don't think you'll regret getting the knife. Helle's are fine bushcraft knives and perform excellent for carving and that sort of jobs. Hope this helps!

Mate, seeing you guys have so many CoS blades, I have a question. How does CoS hold against chipping? I love my S1 but it chips so easily and that's one of the reasons I kinda stopped using it as much as before. My EDC has AUS 8 (a trusty RAT 1) and I really started appreciating softer steels more than supersteels for daily use. Cheers!
@DutchBushcraftKnives8 жыл бұрын
I haven't had any chips on my CoS yet. however, the 60HRC and the alloys used show that it would rather chip than bend. I luckily have no experience with it chipping so far!

Another great video, thank you! Maybe I missed it, but do you guys have a review/opinion on ESEE knives? I've looked, but I can't find any of your videos on ESEEs.
@DutchBushcraftKnives8 жыл бұрын
Hey Cayoot, thanks! I have very bad experience with Esee. I might have had one with a bad heat treat but the 1095 @ 55-57HRC was just way to soft. The factory edge is to large to use and when you decrease the angle the edge gets so weak it bends when feathersticking. I loved the sheath and build quality but the knife was really the worst knife I had for the money. Esee knows how to do good marketing but their choices for survival knives aren't good in my opinion. they are also as expensive as a fallkniven here in the Netherlands so for us they are not worth it.
@Cayoot8 жыл бұрын

Great Video as always. Ok sorry for asking a similar question again. I am torn between the F1 pro and F1D. Price is nearly the same since the F1 pro is on rebate at the moment. I have the A1 pro but want a smaller knife for finer work. Is the F1 pro able to work as fine due to the thicker blade like the F1D or are they so similar that just the look decides. I prefer the look of the F1 pro
@DutchBushcraftKnives8 жыл бұрын
I think the F1D will be slightly more nimble for smaller tasks than the F1 pro. Both are excellent knives though. The difference is not too big so of the looks play a big role for you you should pick the F1Pro. The F1D on the other hand is quite a bit less expensive.
@adayinthelifeof61978 жыл бұрын
Hey guys! Im pretty new to your channel, but im already loving it - great content! I have always used the cheap Mora companion knifes when i have been out on outdoor trips, as i think its a great allround campsite knife. For hunting and fishing i have used my small foldable Buck knife. I just want to ask you guys if you could give me a good tip on what knife i could buy, that would combine these two? The price wont be an issue. The knife must be able to be used as an allround campsite knife for like, small wood carving, feather sticks and so on. And for the hunting purpuse it must be able to skin, gut and carve out anything from a squirrel to a deer and fish ofc. I always carry an axe when im on outdoor tours, so the knife doesnt need to be good at battoning. I hope you can help me!

K. Nielsen bark river bravo 1 in cpm 3v
@DutchBushcraftKnives8 жыл бұрын
you should definitely take a look at bark River. I can highly recommend the Gunny, Bravo 1, Bushcrafter or Aurora in either CPM-3V or Elmax. You can also check out the Fallkniven F1, S1 or A1. Enzo also has some nice knives like the Enzo Trapper or Badger. Lionsteel M4 or M5 would also be a good choice. I hope you can find something that suits you!
@adayinthelifeof61978 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! Man.. that is some fine knifes right there. Tough choice! I have always been in love with knifes from Fallkniven, but the blade on the Bark River Aurora looks to be perfect for skinning and gutting. Or maybe the Liten Bror from Bark River! A smaller knife is often lovely to work with on skinning.

Thanks a lot Ray. Sharpening tutorial is coming this winter! Congrats on your cool purchase! I hope you'll like it!

I'm little scared by the A2 steel ... many people dislikes it ... it will be my firest "carbon" steel, i had a esee 6 but i sent back, it was a piece of shit !!! 200€ for that ... i like your proximity with yours subscribers ;)

Thanks ben! I hated the Esee as well haha! The a2 will perform very decent in the right angle. It is easy to sharpen and can get crazy sharp!

One concern I, living in Sweden, would have about the pro series is that the finger guard is metal. It looks cool but it also gets very cold very quickly in the Swedish winter. Maybe not as big a concern in most of continental Europe but It still seems like an unnecessary downgrade.

IMHO the convex edge is the best edge for a knife, my blades end up that way naturally by hand sharpening them. Once you have that edge you begin to notice that you rarely get nicks and rolls. They should be ashamed of their sheath's, it's absolutely rediculous IMO that a knife in that price range has such a crappy sheath. Another great video guys.

thanks mate! I too love a good convex! I actually like the sheaths. They are ugly as hell but very practical.

Great review guys! I own a vg10 fallkniven f1 and it's by far the best knife I've ever owned. I'm looking for a big knife to go along with it do you recommend an s1 or an a1? I'm torn :) looking to sell and replace my esee 5 it has horrible edge retention! Batton a couple of logs and the edge is gone! Crazy! I don't understand why they have so many fans!

+Kevin Krekels I've had very bad experience with esee as well. Esee seems to be very good at marketing... Maybe even paying for good reviews. I think an a1 would make a great combination with the f1. For me it's my favourite pair. The s1 would be ideal to use if you want best of both worlds if you don't own one of them tet

what knife you can recommend me more. fallkniven f1 or bark river bravo edc. or something betten these price and these look i hope you can answer me many thanks
@DutchBushcraftKnives8 жыл бұрын
Hey Alberto, both are excellent knives. It actually all depends on your own needs the the purpose the knife is going to have. You might also want to check out the lionsteel m4 and Enzo trapper. These are very fair priced knives. For me fallkniven and Bark river are top notch brands. However, if you go with bark river I would suggest going for cpm-3v over A2. I don't like a2 from bark river at all. CPM-3V on the other hand is exceptionally great. If you need a very well balanced steel fallkniven is a good choice. VG-10 or CoS are both very well balanced. Very decent edge retention while still very easy to sharpen.

It's also very 'moist' here in NW England. Sometimes a bit too moist. If that's possible.

Hi Guys love the videos I have an a1 with an a1 pro on the way what would be a great complimentary small bushcraft knife in your opinions? An F1 or a bark river I have fairly large hands but id love a small bushcraft knife If the f1 which steel? Thanks a lot for an answer
@DutchBushcraftKnives8 жыл бұрын
+Gary Felton Golf the f1 has e pretty small handle so you might want to hold it before buying it. Both fallkniven and bark river would make a great complimentary knife. With bark river you can look at a gunny or maybe a bushcrafter. However I would always recommend 3v over a2.
