Great content Moreno, you don't often get KZbinrs or content creators delving into the pre-farming stage to the extent you've gone into here. So useful to see how you laid out initial plans based on local research and approaching customers before any seeds are planted. This seems like the logical best way to do it, I would've definitely gone the other way around if you hadn't educated me. I'd love to see more on that if there's much else to discuss. Hoping I can put these lessons into practice in the near future.

You're a natural at this! I'm really interested in the trees on the farm, I've been wanting to do this for a few years now but I've always heard that they wouldn't work in the system, however, we farm in an extremely hot climate so I would think it would have many benefits. They probably need to be deciduous trees though, right?
@TheDutchFarmer4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks! Yes the trees are a really nice asset to have in the market garden, definitely for the protection in harsh weather conditions, but also for the added increase in diversity and interactions between different systems and wildlife. Having said that, the land we farm on is rented and the trees were already there, so we decided to work our way around them. This layout of trees is not the most practical, and I would personally never plant them in this layout. Instead, I would make tree lanes planted more on a Keyline pattern, following the work of P. A. Yeomans. If that is not possible, I would make blocks (or plots/fields) of a certain amount of beds and in between all the blocks plant hedgerows, trees and a whole bunch of different things. They don't necessary need to be deciduous, but take into consideration the constant shade evergreen trees will cast during different times of the year (which is something you might want - or not). And also take into consideration when designing trees into your system, the height and width they'll have at mature stage! Hope that helps! Thanks for watching👍

Ooooh I love a farmer’s market. I’ll be planting my first flower crop this year to take to market next summer. I’ve not seen any cut flower stalls really so I’m hoping that’s a good sign. It’s not my primary income source so it’s not critical that I sell everything, but I just LOVE to grow things.. excellent video. Thank you.

Hey thanks for the kind words! Farmer's markets are great places indeed! It could be a good sign, it could also be that there's no demand. Two ways of finding out: surveys / or simply trying! Good luck with it!

@@suikatime Still haven't launched yet - we had extremely harsh covid lockdowns in Victoria, Australia in 2020 and this meant i couldn't even travel to my own property to plant anything till November (almost summer here). I should be able to start this spring (Sept/October) 2021. Wish me luck..

Love and respect from INDIA. I had a goal for starting a farming plan by starting a small garden of flowers in my home terrace your video is more experimental, practical and resourceful .Thank you for your e-book and the video. It would definitely help me a lot.

I really enjoyed the first video, took plenty of notes and I'm going to implement what I learned. I've been growing food for quite a while but mostly just for myself. I have sold in farmer's markets but mostly my fruits. Your beds looked really nice. I am getting ready for my next gardening season, which doesn't start outdoors until late March, since where I live is very cold 5 months of the year. We make up with the very long days during the rest of the year. I have subscribed and thank you for the e-book.

Thank you Moreno for quality advice, especially business advice, it is often overlooked. I must agree with Samer, you are generous, may it come back to you in success on your farm and family life. So many of these market gardeners courses are so expensive.

@@kokopelli2012 Also, I somewhat jested in my experience. I am no farmer by any stretch, but did grow up in a small country town, where all my friends lived on farms I would spend a lot of time at. Been in the city far too long, and am quite rusty though. Also as a carpenter by trade, I'm a little bit handy with some things that will likely be useful. Still, so much to learn!! Can't wait to move back out to country life!
