Wow Moreno!!! You made your dream come true and now you help other peoples to take the first steps. That is really inspiring at many levels. And so transparent....most peoples talk about 1 aspect of business. Never about actual income. And work/ family balance....beautiful. Your farm is a very good example that economy and ecology can go hand in hand. And that's how it should be in my opinion because we as living creatures are also part of ecology. We are not above it. If you go against nature you go against yourself. This is the best time to start farming I think. Especially with the very high average age of the farmer. So be inspired everybody!!!!!!!! Thank you very much for sharing. Respect

Hey Jan thank you for the kind words! I was a bit hesitant on sharing actual numbers but I think it can help to give people a reality check. I agree with you. Economy and ecology can go very well hand in hand... Have a nice day!

Don't worry, your videos have inspired me to watch your videos Everytime I think I want to farm for a living. This much required work is for young folks like u. Having said that let me share something with u. 1- plan on Retirement before your 65. Your body will be wiser but it won't be able to keep up with a 30 yr old. 2- Your overall size of farm may consolidate unless u hire or receive cheap laborers. Space is premium. 3- You may need to be very frugal or save, save, save. Also, invest in real estate, specifically where u think u might want to live in your later years. 4- Find a way to set these goals which are a fact of life & will allow your money from hard work to provide equity for u as well as your families future. 5- Make sure your family is on board & your reaching your goals before 3 years pass. Find ways to meet your goals while it's easier to get by with less now it's not enjoyable to do with less when your nearing Retirement & u just want to enjoy the fruits of your labor. 6- Do not neglect time with children & wife. Never neglect the children in there youths. U can never make new memories for a day, week, year that has passed. And they will pass fast. Cherish your family. If u do without, make sure your family is your foundation of why u do what u do & plan as well. Give thanks in everything regardless of your perspective & always realize u r a blessed man!. Be blessed one & all.

Most importantly is the acceptance of always be in a state of mind, that there is +25 things that you could/should have done already, and that you also have that mindset when you are at your sisters wedding, you will sit there while smiling to the family, your brain will and body will still be at work. Just like an elite sportsman, you need to have that mentality, determination and discipline.

You have no idea how much I appreciate this being done in euros! We live in Italy, and hope to have our own parcel of land soon enough - but all of the Canadian/American KZbinrs are using pricing from another continent. Hope to be able to create a full time job for my partner through market farming once we take possession :) Thanks again! (I'll save this for later on as well.)

THANK YOU for the reality. I grew up on farms and it is ALOT of work every day, especially if you have livestock. Good planning, a realistic outlook, scientific physical truth, fiscal responsibility and a hope that the weather is adequate for our needs. We can plan all we wish but it is a gamble on the weather, disease and pests or nature. No matter what , it is a lot of HARD WORK! HOLD FAST. Reality does not care about idealism. The freedom and responsibility.

I've slaved in construction, miserable my entire life. It probably had a lot to do with me being an alcoholic and addicted to opiates. I sobered up and got clean 3 years ago November 5th but I've been dealing with anxiety and major depression. Last Christmas I slid into a deep depression and just quit working all together. I barely left the bed for about 2 month. Gardening has always been a way for me to escape and I got into the garden and got out of my depression. I am determined to start a market garden and never go back to slaving for someone else's profit, except maybe part time during the off season. I'm preparing for a fall garden now. I doubt I'll make much this fall but next spring I'm hoping to be more prepared. Everything seems to be falling into place. The biggest produce market here of 44 years is closing for good at the end of the year because the people are retiring. I've already sold a few things to the local mom and pop stores so I'm getting my foot in the door. I've never been happier and I haven't made a profit yet.

I love your content❗ Too often I watch videos on farming, especially the smaller scale, and it is all romanticized with no talk of the business aspect. Too often it is a wealthy city person essentially retiring to the country and making videos about a glorified garden and going on about the land and nature. While it would be great to just live off the land and in nature, that will not always put food on the table or educate your kids. Your videos are a practical look at the business of small scale farming, and I really appreciate your efforts to share. Keep up the great content.👍

One thing to add in regard to sales outlets, in the US, some states have a network of Produce Auctions where grocery buyers and farm stand go to get their bulk produce. In NY State the Finger Lakes Produce Auction and Mohawk Valley Produce Auction come to mind. Also I think Leola Produce Auction in PA. They operate 3 days a week, usually MWF from 8 to noon. Mostly Amish and Menonite farmers, but the "English" are welcome, even with smaller lots. I've seen small farmers bring in 1/2 bushel boxes of produce. As long as it presents well, somebody will buy it. Not as much per unit as at farmers markets, but really no marketing, just put your peoduce on display and let the bidding begin. Take a look at the NYS Produce Auction or the PA auctions on the internet.

Incredible video, so much useful information. One thing not mentioned, while you are saving up money... Practice succession planting with a large variety of veggies. There is so much value in understanding the timing involved with vegetables. Even if you are planting just two or three each of twenty different crops every month. See each vegetable in each season is extremely valuable. The real advantage of market gardens over big ag is rapid succession farming
