Currently giving up alcohol for lent 40 days. I use to drink at least a beer a day and mayber every other weekend drink moderatly a few shots and at least a 6 pack of beer. Im on day 8 of no alcohol and i feel red. Its hard not drinking

Good luck, I gave up Pepsi for lent one year when I would have had two to four cans a day. My friend Sarah's family moved to the lower 48 and she wanted sombody to go through lent with her we chose Pepsi, it was not as easy as I thought it was. The soda habit was hard to break with meals eating out and daily routines I hadn't realized how often I was grabbing a can. I don't think I'll do that again but it helped draw attention to a problem I had and help me stop most of the soda

@Megan Roberts thank you same here. i was having at the very minimum a tall can, so i can't say it was a regular 16 oz bottle. Its really intriguing how much we dont realize our bad habits until were forced to give them up. Im on day 11 and for the past 3 days it has been tough migraines and everything but not giving up so easy especially when i know all the health problems it can lead to.

I haven't really drank in like 3 years, it honestly isn't that hard to do. I used to be a pretty regular drinker too, got hammered most weekends. However I needed to lose some weight so I cut it out. I've had a casual beer a time or two maybe, but other than that nothing. Trust me, you very quickly get addicted to never being hungover and having full control of your faculties at all times, keep it up.

@K S it was tougher for me im almost done and im proud to say i dont have any more cravings nor do i care about drinking after these 40 days. I wish i had your will power from like day 21-30 i was even having dreams where i was being offered and i would refuse but somehow my mind decided to temp me with somehow making the dream so real that i was able to smell the beer and almost taste the beer. But here i am day 37 and i no longer feel like im addicted.

Nah just do what I do. Mushrooms, blueberries, scrambled eggs and honey. Cut out the alcohol and soda. Use milk instead of creamer for your coffee. Use honey instead of sugar packets. Make a habit of putting lettuce on your sandwiches. Then just get enough exercise and you'll slowly see fat shrink while muscle grows. You definitely won't feel as bloated.

One thing that pisses me off with the diet storylines in a lot of shows is that they always make it seem like cutting these things out cold turkey is the way to go, but in order to make it a routine the trick is to cut down piece by piece, cutting it out all at once just fucks with your digestion and your head, not to mention the cravings don’t disappear so it’s best to still eat the things you love but in smaller doses and then cut out more each day or week, whichever works best for you and eventually the cravings become weaker because your body doesn’t cry out for it, especially with things like alcohol that are really addictive and hard to cut out completely, yes he had a heart attack but stress is a major part of what makes heart attacks happen so changing your life that much all at once isn’t a good idea
