Thanks for this demo! It's actually the single best demo video of live action playing that I've ever seen. The Scritti Politti thing left me completely floored. I'm a sound designer in my 40s and I've worked with synths since the CZ101 came out so I guess I could say that I really mean what I say. Absolutely masterful keyboard playing and an excellent rundown on this new Korg.

My PC software has made all of my previous Korg keyboards obsolete-which is why I sold them all,but Korg has finally made a workstation that integrates well with DAW's and they did it on a budget and NO ONE ELSE has done this. Yamaha tried this with their MOX series and they failed miserably,so I have to give Korg credit for them actually making me reconsider buying another hardware workstation and for me personally,I'd LOVE to have a 73-key midi controller!

I know this video is old but guys, I’ve grown up using this keyboard and I cannot express how good this keyboard is. It’s probably a lot cheaper these days too. This got me into composing music and even as a 12 year old I made some basic pieces (as you can see from some of my first videos on my channel). Awesome keyboard, if your watching this wondering if you should give the keyboard a go then definitely consider it. I would recommend trying to get one with enough keys as when I switch from my piano to the keyboard I tend to run out of keys to play.

I was looking into the Yamaha S90XS, but after listening to the demo of the Krome, I was hooked. The pianos are outstanding, the string sounds sounded kinda' thin tho, but for the price of the S90XS, you just can't beat the Korg. I'm planning on getting the 88 key version and midied it to my Fantom XR since my Roland has the best orchestral sounds. The price alone is worth the look at the Krome. I think Korg will sell a lot of them. I'm sold!!

Hi Robert, The answer to your question is no, you don't need the computer at all. Some people use programs for their combinations, song creation, EQ, etc. Keyboards are just easier to hook up to computers these days is all, and that was just being pointed out. Only reason I ever hooked up a keyboard to my comp was to sequence songs, but this and most keyboards have great built in sequencers so no need for me (or anyone really). It does make certain things easier and some great apps out there.

I'm a children's worship leader, using a GEM wk1 keyboard (year: 2001), I need a new keyboard that has great synths, able to layer multiple sounds, great automatic drum kit to play along with, and a port for a sustain pedal. I'm not to focused on MIDI or software synth sounds on the PC. I just want it all there on the "workstation". Didn't even know that was the correct term.

I am educating myself: MIDI, harmonic series, harmonic properties of fundamental waves such as sine wave, sawtooth, square, and white noise, different filter types, SysEx. sampling, how filtering is needed there and anti aliasing. If you knew how sloppily USB is implemented, you'd never use it. At this price range I'd demand 16-channel IEEE1934 option (like on Motif XF) and some physical modeling synthesis onboard. ROMplers where cool in late '80s. Didn't realize that they are cool again :)

7 years later... did you ever figure it out? I’ve had so many issues with my Korg (while still learning the basics) that I’ve not made it too far into the functions. It can be a little daunting to have SO many features, but not be able to simplify basic navigational needs... I also had to replace the internal micro SD cared after a screen error locked me out of use - and many of my voices (primarily breathy or soft voices, and most the SFX folder do not work (no sound when I touch the key). It’s been quite the headache, I wish I could solve this korg riddle and put her to better use 😪

IEEE1394 is not dead. It's a format that was designed for "real-time" data transmission with processor on both sides (that's why you don't have FireWire sticks). USB is not synchronized data transfer, which is of course fast (50 thousand times faster than original 5-din MIDI) but the reason we get latency, is that it is that: unsynchronized. So, it basically it works like spasmic bursts of vomit. Why is it alive? Cost. USB is the cheapest interface imaginable.

Loved the demonstration, really impressed! I'm just not sure about what kind of sounds these come with. I have synthesizers and there I'm really not concerned about how old they are, because I have full control over how I make it sound. But here - looks like a ROMpler with its pre-loaded sounds, I'm not sure if I'd be able to get modern/time-independent sounds.

Suggestion: mix the instrument output directly into your camcorder or sync it up later in the editor. Cannot get an idea of how good the sounds are when they audio is second hand. It's too soft compared to narration too.

I'm with you on that one dude,as I've had the same thoughts,but being that I've wasted so much money on previous Korgs that had no PC integration-as well as pissing away coin on the horrific MOX,I'm at least glad for the Krome,for what it is. As it is now,I have 2 computers running Reason 6.5 and Presonus S1 with NI Komplete 6...so whatever's missing from the Krome,I've got it covered on my computers.

When I had bought my MOX6,I thought it was the ultimate budget board,as it was advertised as having seamless integration with the included Cubase AI5..man...what a sham that was! $1200 for a 61-key plastic box,with a tiny screen,64 note polyphony,355MB of ROM and nearly non-existent PC integration...which is makes the Korg Krome such a gem of a keyboard. I had the Kurzweil PC3LE6 and aside from the VAST synth engine and some good acoustic sounds and effects,it was still 15 years behind the times

I've owned most of workstation of all major brand for the last 25 or 30 years too, including Korg main ones such M1, Wavestation, Trinity, Triton Extreme, Oasys, M3, etc... And I use them to make music as my day job, I even worked for a keyboard company few years ago, so I definitely know where we come from but I also know what we could get as today... 8 years ago, I had better sound than the Krome with the Open Labs neKo or the Receptor... They are STILL archaic and way behind technology.

I have the 61 and the 88 - Incredible Keyboard - If you want the Kronos be my guest and pay $$$$, but if you want value for your buck, than this is it by far. Rivals my Yamaha Motif XS6 which is saying a lot. Even the Greek Keyboardist Zorbo, Yani, uses these bad boys... String acoustics are fantastic, guitars are amazing, and the horns and pretty much everything is there. Can load the M1 sounds, and Triton sounds.
@yamahamusicians11 жыл бұрын
Note he says "derived from Kronos" i.e they are not the exact same sounds as in the Kronos. If you play them side by side you will hear the difference. Yes I know there is also a massive difference in price but, it's a bit misleading to keep mentioning Kronos when talking about Krome. People might be under the impression they are getting a cheaper version of the Kronos and they are not. Still a great board though and def better than the competition :)
