Great Project! Use a little piece of double face tape or regular tape made into a little loop and that will help hold that batting in place.

I rewound this video a few times and even though Laura doesn’t say that, it looks like each circle has a piece of batting when she starts sewing the circles together. 😁

I made these for my grandchildren whose hands aren’t big enough or strong enough to hold cards for too long. I also ended up making some for me as I have arthritis and difficulty holding playing cards for too long.

How could we use our sewing machine to gather the fabric?

I think I would use a strong quilting thread such as Glide and a 3.5 or 4.0 stitch. Be sure to leave a tail at the beginning before back stitching and then just a tail at the end.
