Einfach himmlisch!!! Das ist die beste Interpretation dieser Symphonie , die ich je gehört habe.

Böhm usually doesn’t receive enough credit for his orchestral works because of his huge operatic influence. But I think his Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert are up there with the best. This New World Symphony is also great. He seems to have a clear vision of what it should sound like which he faithfully renders.

There are others. Talich, Kubelik, Sejna, Neumann can be considered authoritive versions. Then there are Reiner, Rodzinski, Karajan, Kertesz, Rowicki and many others. It's one of the three most over-recorded symphonies in the history of recording. Try also Kempe's in the Proms.

This is good but doesn't have the zest of Karajan's 1966 recording with BP
Without USA , there would have been no this masterpiece

Who is the Concertmaster? I dont know him.

Erich Binder

Erich Binder. He resigned around 1991 or 1992 to devote more time as conductor. We see him playing this symphony again six years later with Karajan, sitting in the assistant's chair next to Gerhart Hetzel, who died so tragically around the same period as Binder's resignation.

@@mooriable Right. Binder didn't have as much success in being a conductor as a Wiener concertmaster. I remember attending a concert full of Viennese waltzes conducted by Binder in person in a suburb of Tokyo in the early 1990s. I've completely forgot about the orchestra, including whether they are domestic or from overseas.
@mooriable9 ай бұрын
@xapaga1 I would agree, yes, although he probably had known that even before leaving the orchestra, and perhaps still wanted to devote more time as a conductor. Great that you experienced his performance live! I would have loved to attend one of his performances!
