i just want to add this anyone who is trying to play either fortress mode or adventure mode please read the history of the world a bit i just created an adventurer and while reading about his tribe i found out that my tribe is currently in war with another (we attacked them), i found the enemies of my tribe and the current leader ( i was planning to kill him to become the leader) dwarf fortress is unlike any game ever made. its like writing a novel while reading its previous pages. you decide what to do.

I fucking love adventure mode. I see so much potential in it. I imagine having a playthrough where I'm a merchant manipulating the economy to help fight the war against the evil goblins and stupid elf's. I can see a playthrough where I'm a leader of a band of thieves hiding in my old fort plotting to throw a coup against my established king. Maybe I'm a knight with a trusty squire who happens to be a duck.... I can see all these things in the future of Adventure mode and i cant wait for it!

Blind, also make sure to make an advances tips and warnings for Adventure mode. Things to cover: things placed on the ground do NOT stay where you placed them, you must use pedestals, a whole healing tutorial is really really necessary, including needing splints to heal limbs, shrines that give regeneration. Healing is probably going to be the main problem for all new players as it is (or used to be) very unforgiving. The other thing tinreally go in depth is ranged combat, like how throwing weapons can be much more effective than using bows etc (or used to be.)

But yet, when I play in adventure mode, all I have to do is sleep for my character to recover all their health, which is a shame

@Dwarfortress00 maybe they changed it, I played adv mode so much, even crawled through hell with my elephant man and sperms whale man heroes, using the corpses of demons as weapons, but while you can heal damage, if you break a limb, or worse lose one, which is easy to do to more advanced enemies, it's over as there was no medical system.

(You can grow limbs back now) :D Also if you put something on a pedestal or in a stockpile and adventure there they do stay in place now. I think some of your information is out of date.

@BlindiRL see, exactly the info we old timers needed to know, also before mounts were generally useless as they couldn't open doors so they would get stuck and lost constantly, but sometimes just... show up. Also, before if you head into a dark fortress, most goblins would be friendly so it was just a free killing field... until more than 20 goblins were on a single square, then it would crash the game

The tip about saving frequently is good, although its mostly to protect against crashes, dying can be more satisfying than save-scumming. Also btw, any weapon that can cause non-blunt damage can be used to butcher.

There are also options to exchange your gold (from an other faction) for their gold. I think it’s actually based on their economic strength difference

Items left within the fortress will be there in the spot you left it when you reclaim the fortress.

You may need to leave your starting town to find a village or town with a temple. If you search through the building and find a person with a weird title, talk to them and see if you get the, "offer your services" (or something similar) dialogue option.

Noob question. I was trying to find a lair. I went to the right area and ended up wandering around the same patch of forest for 30 minutes and couldn't find said lair. Any tips on how to find where the entrance is?

Possible at incorrectly spawned. The same material from a different lair will complete the quest.

Question for the masses, I created a character and spawned in a little town, but when I loaded in, it was literally a like 5X5 box with no stairs or entry ways, is this character doomed and it's best to create another, or can I mine out?

It's likely there's stairs in the middle of the box underneath something.

Ok, so a question. I generated a 250 year world, didn't really mess with anything else. It would not let me play chosen because there were no religions, and the only option to play as in Hero or Ordinary was human. That's it. What happened? The only mods I was running were a z-level fog remover, more transparent designations and other purely visual things.

Generate a new world. If there is nothing available then nothing is available.

Suppose I had this "companion" who came up with an incredibly delusional thought that the items I've handed him to mule around actually belong to him and then proceeded to "accidentally" drink himself to death in a tavern. Could I put all the loot in a chest I slap down anywhere in town without the items despawning/being stolen or do I need to haul them to a place I own.

We could do with a guide on how to use the map. I've spent hours going backwards and forwards to find a town called flintlock, it's a short walk to the south they say. Fifteen mins of walking, found nothing then when I do stumble upon something it just says oh now it's to the far north. Really frustrating

@@BlindiRL Having a hard time with this as well, cant pan the map or other maps. Cant tell were I'm going or how to get there. Navigation is really painful. I want to get in to adventure mode but knowing how to get where you want to go or evening finding it in relation to yourself is a big bummer. And for gawd sakes . Has this game ever heard of alphabetical order or is that part of the charm. :) .. looking forward to more of your vids, lovin it. I will keep trying.

I doubt chosen would be an option but aside form that no. However young worlds have some limitations. Necromancer towers can't form after the world gen stops for example.

It was an underbaked future before and I think that it needs a rework. It not being included right now is probably for the best.
