Speaking of long and complicated, would it be possible for you to explain detailed world gen options? Or at least the few which majorly affect the game and its creation? Stuff like volcano number, how to get more rivers to spawn, demon number, how to reduce the area and amount of swamps or similar biomes and other such things that aren't as readily apparent while scrolling through the rather long list.

I recently learnt that carved tracks can be used to undo floor engravings if you want to get your engravers to redo the floor once they're more skilled

There is also very big and complex topic of how to use minecarts to manage different stockpiles by designating multiple minecarts to get items all across "output" or "wildcard gathering" stockpiles and deliver those minecarts to stockpiles where those items needed, without using "quantum dump (tm)" at the end point. This is interesting at least because one minecart can deliver 5 stones / 10 wood / 83 blocks and bars / 500 sand bags. Imagine using that thing AS stockpile. Tests needed.

Tip: create some tracks on the surface to transport wood if you have lots of trees, create tracks using chopped wood put a track stop then place a wood stockpile near it, then do this several times across the surface, then when it's ready you can chop and watch they moving wood to the nearest stockpile and someone will push the carts (dwarf pushing cart can pass others that are also pushing cart so you can have 1 track and many carts) Something like this in the surface X-------|------X X------O-----X X-------|------X X=Track stop, | =track going up or down, O = Underground access. If you use tons of wood it will help a lot, instead moving the wood from the surface to the workshop stockpile, they will try to fill the closest stockpile then they will fill the cart and push it. Just remember to put a bridge to close the surface access.

I've been irrationally (or rationally..?) afraid of using minecarts in Dwarf Fortress. It just felt like a black box and I didnt want to sacrifice my dwarves to perform some "experiments" and figure it out. Thanks so much for this tutorial. I have been trying to make a kitchen in a burrow use liquid in meals by only allowing it access to one solid food delivered via minecart.

I was playing last night and all was going well. That lasted until autumn in the 7th year when everyone started killing everyone. I went from a population of about 180, to less than 30 in a matter of minutes. I didn't know what it was at first, because I didn't see a notification, but it turns out, my fortress was infiltrated by a were cavy. By the time I realised what was happening, it was too late. Have you done a tutorial on dealing with werebeasts yet? I had a look but couldn't find anything.

Millitia on guard near public places, most notably near tavern. Also, once you're identified werebeast, you can just wall them in some place, or banish out of the fortress if they are citizen.

Would it be effective at all to have them load the minecart, then have them carry that one minecart to another track deep in your base? Like moving far up or down lots of items?

If you're interested I noticed something that many users don't seem to know about that a tutorial could help with. Underground "surface" farms. They can be a huge boost for getting food running well and providing high value crops and materials into your fort.

Hey Blindi! I was watching one of your longer videos, it was like a compilation of DF devs answering questions about the game, I think they were taken from bay12 forums. Anyway, I paused it to answer the door or something and didn't get to finish it. What the hell happened to that video? I can't find it anywhere. To be more specific, there was a question about the elven civilization, where the player asked if they are going to be made stronger in a future update as a magic system is in the works. The question was motivated by their appereance of being nerfed for their equipment is made of an inferior material.

Why Dwarf carry empty cart in "adding power" section when going back. Powered track is only one way or route back was simply not set on the film yet?

To the extent that Dwarfs prefer to carry wood logs instead use minecart. I was worried that I set up something wrongly, fortunately mincart was used after general workload go down.

I have some above ground farms and extensive foraging zones. Is there a way of getting a minecart to go underground whilst maintaining the security of the fort? I assume carts can't go through doors and therefore would be going underground through a tunnel that any enemy could just follow down 😢

You could put the loading stockpile and minecart station one z-level below the surface and put a door to the outside nearby?

Maybe have the outdoor minecart dump items down a hatch to a lower minecart? Not great with building destroys since they can attack downwards though.
