Daher have taken two amazing aircraft and transformed them far beyond their original concept. The TBM from a Mooney design. The Kodiak 300 took the 100 into the next level. Daher took the cutting edge and made it stronger and sharper than ever.
@TheMrBrianh3 ай бұрын
I think you mean the Kodiak 900. It was underdeveloped by Quest Aircraft before the purchase by Daher in 2019. It is essentially a Kodiak 100, stretched almost 4 feet, and powered by a 900-shp PT6A-140A. Daher did have the final say to what modifications came to the 900, but it is a disservice to the engineers at Quest, that had already developed many of the improvements, to say Daher engineered the 900.
@gtr19529 ай бұрын
I'm sure you know by how its "day her". LOL Lower cost option, how about Piper? Then there is the versatile Pilatus. The TBM once was a Mooney. The design changed hands a couple times and ended up with Daher. It's made in Tarbes, France. They got the name TBM from TarBes Mooney, TBM. I believe they are the fastest of the bunch, and have a lot of dedicated owners. At that price point, your getting close to Slowtation (Citation) territory. 8) They are a great airplane!! 8) --gary

The Kodiak was not developed by Daher. Quest aircraft began developing the Kodiak in 1999, and shipped their first Kodiak 100 in March of 2009. Quest Aircraft was purchased by Daher ten years later in 2019.

IMHO it makes more sense to compare it to the Pilatus PC-12 than to the Epic.

If I had a few million to spend on a turboprop I would purchase the TBM 900, it has all the major airframe upgrades without all the fluff and added cost: 5 blade composite propeller, drag reduction features, winglets, redesigned engine intake, the full 850 SHP available on take off, longer range, faster speed, pilot door standard, redesigned exhaust stacks gained 2 kts speed, etc. All the drag reductions Daher did would equal an additional 50 HP. Plus the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit.

HELLO, The Epic E1000 GX is FAA type certified aircraft back in 2021, yeah they started as kit back in 2005. Do some exacting comparison, it sure would be interesting. The Epic will appeal to a different kind of buyer and it will hold a price advantage around 1 million USD over the TBM which is about right for a newer manufacturer without the number of units sold and in operation. Still, a valid competitor.
@southernlights3682 Жыл бұрын
Totally! I would actually still prefer an Epic E1000 GX over a TBM. I particularly love the fact that the Epic houses an engine of 1200 horsepowers, which is a lot more powerful than the TBM 960s’ turbine. 👍

Virtually everything you say about Epic is incorrect. They haven't done kits for many years, their present model is certified and has twice the useful payload at max fuel fuel than the TBM. All the numbers of the TBM you have given are half lies. For instance the TBM maximum speed uses almost twice the fuel at the recommended speeds which are much lower. You'll never use those speeds unless you are in fire or something worst.. This video is either paid by TBM or made by someone who has no idea of aviation.

I like the TBM 960 but... If I won the Lottery today I wouldn't buy one.. Personally I love twin engine aircrafts also the TBM in my opinion isn't wide enough.. If you were to take the TBM Fuselage and split it in half Vertically from the nose and add that half onto the current fuselage.. I was thinking I a Twin engine up front cold air intake for the engines in the center and exhaust out each side. Wings Wider by 2 feet ish and longer by 8 feet. In my 1000 gallon fuel total 350 each wing and a center tank of 400 gallons. Total Passenger at 6 with two pilots but enough left over for cargo and that sort of thing.. I really think Dual engines whether mounted at the nose of the plane or on the wings would also increase the Cruising speed. Idk Just brainstorming love the electronics love the auto throttles and autopilot system love the Heating/A/c unit anti ice system along with all the other features.. If cabin isn't pressurized I would recommend Pressurized cabin up to 45k feet. The plane looks great but a twin engine like I mentioned for business class or utility use would be the best.. Oh and handicap Accessibility mounts on the floor for passengers that may be in a Electric Wheel chair example my electric wheelchair is a Quantum Q6 Edge HD The chair itself weights 350lbs plus my weight puts it in around 800 lbs so the capability to be flexible would be great on weight. Also some sort of chair lift design to bring the electric chair on board the craft.
@dannyfar7989 Жыл бұрын
"The chair itself weights 350lbs plus my weight puts it in around 800 lbs" so your weight is 450lbs? Then I get why you want it to be wider. Most people are not that wide and don't need it that wide. They like the andantage of having a smaller aircraft from the outside, though nobody would complain about it beeing "bigger on the inside"
@LorenTedford Жыл бұрын
@dannyfar7989 The other issue is the low ceilings being almost 6 foot with head protection gear.

@@LorenTedford Those of exceptional mass width and height will want a vehicle that offers exceptional space and pay the price. For averagesized person the size is not an issue, people fly little Cessnas and Ultralighs too, this one is faster and a little bigger.
@Triple_J.15 ай бұрын
Two engines va one: Double the mainrainence and fuel costs. Also, a P&W PT-6A is about $1,000,000 each. So, ass another Million and change to the price tag. Aircraft design is ten thousand compromises. Larger size is more drag, which hurts cruise speed, and added drag and weight hurts climb rate. An aircraft has to climb at a minimum gradient by law, and due to reality of departure with terrain and city skylines. Aircraft such as this represent 100,000 manhours of research, design, detail, construction. If it doesn't meet your mission, find a different airplane. I suggest Pilatus PC-12 at the same $4.8M price-point. Or a Beechcraft King-Air if you want a twin with lots of space. Or a Piaggio if you want the fastest and most stylish twin turboprop available. Everyone is better off with a retired Boeing, if fuel and repair cost is no object.
