It's not just Turkey. The billion-dollar industry in Korea has bred "ghost doctors". Often, people would find a celebrity surgeon ( i.e. those who are famous based on their celebrity clientele ). They use this as their advertisement. Clients talk to them and get the consultation from these celebrity doctors..but once they're under anaesthesia and under the knife, it's a different surgeon who performs the surgery ( often a new student, a new graduate or some doctor who is trying to get into the plastic surgery business bc it's a lot of money and just getting additional certification ). Scary stuff. So even though everyone claims that Korea is sooooo "great" and "advanced" in their practises, it's not necessarily as strictly controlled as the US or Canada.

I am from Turkey. Before any operation, or the simplest medical treatment, I do thoroughly search the qualifications of the doctor, including his/her education, work experience, previous customer reviews. I think doctors here are overall good. The problem is that if there is a problem, there is no legal infrastructure that defends your rights as a patient. You are basically at the mercy of the doctor/hospital. This makes you very very vulnerable.

I heard that people have died in South America as well from cosmetic surgeries. There needs to be greater regulation to ensure that any medical treatment is done by certified doctors and that proper pre- and post- treatment care is given to patients. Doctors and clinics need to be held responsible. It's irresponsible for a clinic to say, "The doctor doesn't work for us. We only rented the operation room." How can a clinic do that? This isn't a conference room they are renting. It's a surgical procedure on which patients' life depends.

Turkey has a thriving private health industry catering to foreigners, which actually puts uninsured locals at the risk of losing their access to services as underfunded public health is becoming unable to cope with the demand. There are amazing physicians and surgeons with their private practices in Turkey, but I am not sure they are as accessible from abroad. Overseas demand has also led to smaller clinics sprouting like mushrooms. DO NOT be tempted by the price. Overvalued Turkish lira has deteriorated the price advantage of more established hospitals. If you must, do your research well and opt for a major hospital chain. But even then, you are a stranger in a strange land. I am a doctor and this is a HIGHLY ignorant comment. Stop victim blaming when the blame falls SQUARELY on these unscrupulous criminals. You should not operate on patients in a substandard manner, regardless of whatever they paid. That's just unequivocally wrong. There is no country I'm aware of that justifies substandard healthcare on a pecuniary basis. EVERYONE invariably deserves "healthcare of the highest attainable standard" as we say in my country. The patients have no blame to take.

Especially with patients getting septicemia??? That's a clear indication of a breached sterile field in the OR, which is UNACCEPTABLE regardless of the amount paid. It's literally the most basic surgical skill after scrubbing. The patients have nothing to do with this at all. These are criminal agencies and "doctors" who don't care about any patient's life as long as they milk them out for profit. So of course, they prey on the poor who have little options at their disposal. It's incredibly insensitive to suggest that it's their fault because no-one would willingly put themselves in harm's way.

Nasty. I got in touch with an advertised "#1 Dental Clinic in Europe" (Dentakay) and I sent them high quality scans of my teeth (done by a clinic in the UK). A few minutes later got an email from a "doctor" claiming that I needed 32 crowns to fix my problems. Seemed extremely odd and suspicious. I went to two separate dentists in the UK to get different opinions and both said I didn't need a single crown because my teeth were healthy. At most I needed a filling or two. These people wanted to shave off every single one of my teeth to replace them with synthetic garbage and leave me suffering for life. That was the end of me considering Turkey for anything medical. You are not a patient to them, but a wallet. They don't care for your wellbeing or interests whatsoever.
@Skdjjddhhd4 ай бұрын
As a Turkish, I would never go to that clinic. Recently I saw an awful clinic that I know in an awful neighborhood getting international patients especially from Europe. That’s madness. I asked how do they find those patients and they told me that they’re working with an agency. These weird “#1 clinic”s all have abnormally high rates on the internet and so many reviews. Most people don’t leave positive comments when they are happy with the service. It’s the sad reality. People generally put reviews when they have something to complain. All those suspiciously positive comments are probably fake or at least forcefully taken in return for some discount or something. There are great medical professionals in Istanbul but I believe tourists are not capable to reach out to them. I have a fantastic dentist for example. He’s always my family’s go-to person when we have a dental issue for years and he refuses to apply anything unnecessary of course. He’s also a professor on the most respected university in the field in Turkey and he doesn’t even bother to open up a social media account. I’m sorry for the Europeans have to come to Turkey to get a dental treatment. Plastic surgery is one thing, it generally not something actually necessary. But a good dental treatment should be accessible to everyone all over the world without any expensive fees or crazy long waiting periods. When Turks move abroad they always complain about the medical system first.

And to think that she couldn't wait just 2 years for such an impactful event, and gave up the British level of quality because of impatience... Where were you as a mother to bring her back with her feet on the ground and make her wait!? I won't even go into this stupid trend that young people have these days of wanting to be influencers and thinking that they can make a living out of making videos about makeup and clothes! It makes me sick! And this despite her bmi disadvantage! We're clearly going towards Idiocracy!

it amazes me how cruel people turn into in front of their computers. Would you blame a grieving mum like that if you had seen her face to face? You are loosing the importance of your main concept, which I totally agree by the way, due to your own lack of empathy.

@@telliturna4998 Well... If I were "face to face" with her, it's likely that I would have had a connection of sorts with her... maybe she would have been a neighbor, a work colleague... But since DW brings together people so disconnected from each other, people from different countries, cultures, social classes, values... besides the digital separation... The diminished level of empathy becomes more understandable, when you look at it through this optic. This is not to say that I feel no compassion whatsoever, on the contrary! It's revolting to hear of such tragedies in this day and age! But my compassion goes solely to the victim! because she paid the ultimate price! She still had the mind of a child! Clearly! It was not her fault that, most probably, her parents kept unhealthy eating habits within the household! It was not her fault that social media pressures people to want certain things... If she wasn't gifted by nature with an intrinsic ability to distinguish rational behavior from deadly-dangerous desires, then it would have been her parent's duty to keep her safe till she would have had sufficient life experience to manage on her own! It's not my job to be politically correct, as I said, I'm just the most complete stranger! Faceless even! And even though I wouldn't have used these exact same words if I were face to face with the mother of the victim, I would have still made my current point, only in a more diplomatic manner. If you can't understand my point of view, then maybe it would be easier if you would think of my comments as the troubling thoughts that go through someone's mind when they are trying to grapple some major event... Some of those thoughts are bluntly clear, but also true!

Don't you get enough joy out of spreading _hasbara_ that yiu have to vomit up paragraphs of blaming, shaming questions aimed at this oerson? Or was this kind of muck-posting your first love?

If the countries of these people's origin provided quality and affordable surgeries, no-one would fly to a foreign country for any procedure.

While i do sympathize with these victims i feel like they shouldn't be trying to fix things that arent broken. Unless you have an unsightly deformity, you dont need to change your body in hopes of the world accepting you because the world will still probably let you down. Just love yourself as is

There is a degree of irony in this as a UK citizen. In Harley Street, London, we have some of the best doctors and professionals in the world who can easily be held accountable, and yet people are trying to cut corners and pay a HUGE price in the long run. This is nothing short of a huge blame game.

A friend of mine who traveled from Italy to this same hospital for a hair transplant. After the procedure, he has some health issues. When later he arrived to Turkey for a follow-up check-up, I went with him and found that there were no doctors not even a single person from that transplant, the staff from the building reception informed us that they were merely renting the room. The certificate he has did not include any contact information, such as an email address or phone number.

Working hard and sweating is always the best option...I have recently lost 25 kg in 8 months with just 30-40 minutes of exercise daily and a proper diet. I can definitely say it is a far better way than surgery. I will suggest to all of you make the right decision. 😃

I had a nose surgery in Türkiye. I am Turkish also. If you see fixed price in the advertisement, it means that they are just looking for customers. Doctor could only say the price after seeing your results. Mine was very talented and good doctor. It has been 2 years now and I'm doing well. Do not buy any advertisement things. Real doctors do not need advertisement because everyone knows them.
