explaining to those who don't understand, olive trees are very sensitive to cracks like the ones shown in the video, storms can also cause damage of equal or greater magnitude, the tree goes into recession and only returns to producing at maximum capacity several years later. Tree pruning must be done by experienced and knowledgeable people, and harvesting must be carried out with care. This is one of the reasons why the product is expensive, among others.

Interesting video. There are drones with thermal imaging cameras for around a $1,000 dollars. They will clearly and quickly detect body heat. Law enforcement agencies use them regularly to catch fleeing criminals. Obviously someone would have to monitor the drone, but one person could monitor the entire farm (obviously only during harvest season when thefts are likely). Additionally there are certain breeds of dogs that would protect their products.
@__Wanderer26 күн бұрын
it's what I was thinking as well - you could even automate it and have an automatic detection of "white spots" or warm areas that could be people. You have a system of 6 drones that take it in turns to rise up for 2 minutes (perhaps waiting 5-10 minutes between snapshots), take a panorama and then drop and go into standby. Couple that to an app with starlink and you can relay any intrusions automatically to an app on the farmers phone. If a target is found within the area of interest (the farm) at a time that is not authorized, the drone stays in the area to give live feed to the farmer.

In Dec 2024, 2 14-year-olds who repeatedly raped an 11 y/o girl in a mall bathroom under death threats & filmed it received 4 & 2 yrs respectively. And they're eligible for early release w/ monitoring. That crime, given the age of victim, the filming, the repeated assaults would have garnered a much longer sentence in any US state who would likely have moved to try them as adults. This is the 1 thing that really needs to change in Spain. Source: El País, 20 Dec 2024, "Condenados a cuatro y dos años de internamiento dos menores por violar a una niña de 11 en Badalona".

Insurance is such a scam. They look for every excuse not to help subscribers, but are so happy to tout their rates and take your money for premiums.

In Algeria, olive oil is more expensive, and given the relatively low income, it makes more sens to steal the olives. But the reality is different.. you harvest your olives and leave them in the field .. most of the times faraway from your home and you never hear about thefts!
