explaining to those who don't understand, olive trees are very sensitive to cracks like the ones shown in the video, storms can also cause damage of equal or greater magnitude, the tree goes into recession and only returns to producing at maximum capacity several years later. Tree pruning must be done by experienced and knowledgeable people, and harvesting must be carried out with care. This is one of the reasons why the product is expensive, among others.

Yes thank you for the education. I had a Cypriot neighbor growing up that insisted his uncle was the only fellow who really knew how to properly prune an olive. This guy and his traditional ecological knowledge have that tree standing at nearly 50 yrs old when nearly all the others in the neighborhood planted when the development was built have died

My sister bought an Olive farm .. she has 7 plots of land now but all were worthless this year bc of the droughts; Hopefully we get to harvest next year i'll be helping out. I suppose if the farms that produced this year and have damaged trees.. a lot of stealing will be happening in those areas that will produce a good harvest the upcoming year. I am already thinking of a way to tackle this should it occur. Thanks for your information !

Pedro Amarille gathered roughly 200 pieces of coconut fruits worth ₱2,000 from a property in Bohol in 2011. He had been sentenced to a jail term of eight years to 14 years, eight months, and one day. Interesting video. There are drones with thermal imaging cameras for around a $1,000 dollars. They will clearly and quickly detect body heat. Law enforcement agencies use them regularly to catch fleeing criminals. Obviously someone would have to monitor the drone, but one person could monitor the entire farm (obviously only during harvest season when thefts are likely). Additionally there are certain breeds of dogs that would protect their products.
@__Wanderer
@__Wanderer 26 күн бұрын
it's what I was thinking as well - you could even automate it and have an automatic detection of "white spots" or warm areas that could be people. You have a system of 6 drones that take it in turns to rise up for 2 minutes (perhaps waiting 5-10 minutes between snapshots), take a panorama and then drop and go into standby. Couple that to an app with starlink and you can relay any intrusions automatically to an app on the farmers phone. If a target is found within the area of interest (the farm) at a time that is not authorized, the drone stays in the area to give live feed to the farmer.

@@Polo_CJR it would be the mills to record it, to not get in trouble with the tax authorities (which need VAT payments, and uncooked books)? It's all double entry - you can, as a mill, only sell as much as you have bought - wastage. If you sell more than you bought - that's cooked books. If you don't show profits (to pay tax on), yet have not inherited/gifted property and stuff, then your wealth could be treated as "unexplained wealth"... big problem...

Why don't they used drones with thermal camera so that they can be alerted right away, if there are thieves in the vicinity of their plantations.

12:14, interesting how they have a laser like focus on catching a productive farmer, and shrug their shoulders at the olive thieves. Seems that Guardia is a large part of the problem. No images, or descriptions, of the olive thieves, because they’re not Spaniards, or Europeans. They’re from the continent of Africa, parts of Eurasia, and wherever Albania is. It would be rude to notice who is committing the crime.

I think my country is becoming more like yours, wrong ppl in government! These crooks should be carted off to prison but the law enforcement doesn’t care. I’m so sorry that you and other farmers have to endure this crime. Can you place hidden cameras around as well as dogs to ward off these criminals? I think raising animals around these precious trees can also be a goof source of income & can make the noise needed to catch the thieves too. Be blessed

There's much to praise abt Spanish governance. 1 thing that must CHANGE is the lack of prison sentences. In Dec 2024, 2 14-year-olds who repeatedly raped an 11 y/o girl in a mall bathroom under death threats & filmed it received 4 & 2 yrs respectively. And they're eligible for early release w/ monitoring. That crime, given the age of victim, the filming, the repeated assaults would have garnered a much longer sentence in any US state who would likely have moved to try them as adults. This is the 1 thing that really needs to change in Spain. Source: El País, 20 Dec 2024, "Condenados a cuatro y dos años de internamiento dos menores por violar a una niña de 11 en Badalona".

Look, spain hasnt got good judicial system, but I assure you that there is no way they couldve received that little prison. Minimum is 4, and thats for adult women

@Alguien644 You're absolutely incorrect. I got that info from an RTVE newscast & the following article, whose headline confirms it all: El País, 20 Dec 2024, "Condenados a cuatro y dos años de internamiento dos menores por violar a una niña de 11 en Badalona".

In Algeria, olive oil is more expensive, and given the relatively low income, it makes more sens to steal the olives. But the reality is different.. you harvest your olives and leave them in the field .. most of the times faraway from your home and you never hear about thefts!
