This tradition exists in India as well (in Maharashtra state). It is known as Dahihandi. These human towers come up during the festival of Janmashtami.

I think colles from other countries are allowed to join in, but since those tend to be way smaller (mostly migrant Catalans and their friends xd) they simply have no chance against the big ones. Don't know how you enter the final big competition though, there's probably some kind of point system or something...

4:07 Hope they didn't count the boy as a separate level from the girl he was standing over. Their feet were both standing on the same level, she was just squatting and he was over her. That should be 9 not 10. If they did count the two as 2 separate levels, then just have a squatter on each level between the legs of someone standing and it'd be easy to get 18 levels.

Truly beautiful tradition, but it seems it would be a lot safer to collapse the human pyramids layer by layer instead of allowing the whole thing to implode all at once. Just a thought.

That is the idea, indeed. Actually, only about 3% of the attempts fail, but most documentaries over represent falling towers because they are more spectacular, I guess.

When you see a fall from the stands it seems very shocking. It may even seem that someone has died, but I have friends who practice that tradition and they have told me that when there is a fall it doesn't really feel heavy,, all the weight of the fall is cushioned between many people
