I am worried about Disney being involved due to how they've ruined MCU and Star Wars. But, on the other hand, it's about time Doctor Who was treated like the legend and world wide icon it is. Let's be honest - without Disney's co funding this would never happen. But, Disney does like to buy and take over franchises? As for "Tales from the TARDIS"? It was great to see Steven and Jamie. And Katy Manning once again shined like the diamond she is. It IS a great way to introduce Doctor Who to new people and future fans. And was very well written. However, it does look done on the cheap. So, same old Doctor Who then LOL David

These shorts were magic. They gave a canonical, beautiful sendoff to some of the Doctors and companions who most needed it. These were not just throwaway fluff, like I thought they might be! These were momentous in their own right, each providing a capstone for whole bygone generations, characters who used to be the whole focus of Doctor Who having one last adventure to round out what now feels like long, long stories finally told to completion. They even tied into those wonderful shorts from the boxed sets, and the Sarah Jane Adventures! In my book, these were a perfect gift for people who have waited decades for resolution.

My favorite moment/line from each: -Steven's look of disgust right at the beginning when he's examining the 6th Doctor's coat. -Just seeing Two's Companions, even if it were maudlin. -Every moment with Clyde. This dude is PRIME full-blown Companion material. Get him, Gatwa! Get him now!! -Five's perfectly timed, perfectly toned: _"...he was just a kid"_ -Six. All of him. Every single second. Oh and Peri was there too. -Seven's very real: _"...and I love you."_ line. -Eight when he appears in the 60th anniversary special? 😇

30 Years from now, they will recreate this set for Eccleston/Rose, Tennant/Donna, Smith/Amy, Whittaker/Companion, and Gatwa/Companion (and if Capaldi is still around). The 90th will be a returning Boris Adjalacki...not as his beloved 21st Doctor, but as the new 24th Doctor, different incarnation with the same face. It will be the Return of the Black Guardian, as 24 will have to come to terms with losing Billy-Rai during the Sontaran War in his final season 82. A total gateway event for new viewers.

I kinda think the Earthshock one worked, because they talk about adric this kid they knew that died and finally properly have a conversation about it then the two characters move on to talk about tegan's life (i specifically don't like how power of the doctor did it bc that was a hologram and who cares what a hologram has to say about adric, that's not the doctor ). The some of the zoe and jamie lines were mid as hell though i had fun watching the mind robber I love 2 and jamie and zoe, they absolutely did not do the war games justice. The music issue sticks out even more when its contrasted right next to some soundtracks I liked like the musical tones of earthshock, the tales music was just kinda fine. i don't actually know if rtd (still weird to refer to him as the showrunner again) has decided whatever his rules for the memory tardis will be or if the rules will differ from writer to writer and he'll just let them do whatever, since these are just anniversary specials and they're character focused I'd probably like the latter more, don't get bogged down by lore just tell a coherent and interesting story where the doctor or companions have fun interactions. Colin baker love :) gonna be honest, only saw him in sirens of time before this and still haven't finished vengence on varos, he was great tho ig. Clyde and jo worked so strangely well and was an unexpected diamond in the rough (for me at least), nice bridge btwn old and new who when they were low on options for 3rd doc stuff, my personal favorite tales of the tardis ep (the three doctors is also just a really fun episode, its the first of multidoctor story and its done extremely well ). watched the time meddler first, i LOVE hartnell era episodes, stephen and vicki are quite a great pairing in and out of the episode tho i don't know much about 'em. No real complaints, adorable ending. LOVE that they refused to use any cgi (probably bc they couldn't afford it or have time for it) but just to see them rationalize the aging and changes in universe was infinitely better. My rating on the show probably depends on the day but for the 60th, ya know it does what it's here to do and i appreciate it, AND i think it absolutely attracts new viewers to the long, crunchy nature of some of the classic stories for people that are scared to dive in but are interested. EDIT: Time to get hyped for the Daleks recolorization and remaster b4 the specials!!! (and children in need, i doubt that minisode will be that big tho but im excited nonetheless)

For some reason my brain has decided that the Monk is my favorite doctor who character, so my current tin foil hat theory is that the time meddler was chosen as an episode for this as a way to introduce the Monk to a new audience before he returns in the new series… one can hope at least

I've only seen two of them. I decided to go onto firstly EarthShock as I'd seen it & didn't really know what this was. Thought from the small amount I'd heard it would be like the characters talking about the story & stuff. But it started & then I thought they'd but in every so often to maybe comment on it like a commentary track (the Earth shock one is so good. I love the off topic things the talk about that's why you watch them mainly) but in character but instead it was um just the episode but it felt wrong without the cliff hangers oh & its ending isn't as impactful as the silent credits over Adrics badge that just kinda makes you reflect on his death. I then yesterday watched the curse of Fenric one because I was planning on rewatching it when it came to iPlayer since my disk was scuffed & they don't sell it anywhere like not even amazon which was odd. It was fine just kinda weird not to um do it the way it was done. Like no cliff hangers again felt odd & ACE spoils it a bit for the intended audience. like a final revelation. Next I plan on watching something I have never seen before the second doctor one. But I find it as an alright way to introduce people to the classic series. I think I will return to this when I have watched the Mind Robbers tonight as it will be a first viewing experience with a better idea of how it is. So see you then. Also probably should do what I am meant to do... Edit 1: I think that the best way to have done the story I forget where it is from but it was about the Doctor meeting an old Jammie & he'd get one final story to remember the doctor. It sounded good but I forget its name. I'll edit once I've finished watching the episode.

4:50 - Tegan could've reunited with Nyssa after the events of the Passenger, maybe that led to her wanting to try and see Nyssa again or perhaps it's a pet that she named after Nyssa! Anything is possible really. RTD did confirm that Tales of the TARDIS is canon too!

The problem I have with these is that it feels like they are serving too many masters. (no not him) Right, the format is actually quite fun, it's a fire side chat! Two old friends reminiscing by a fire. The only thing missing was tea and biscuits. It's a nice idea and used a framework to bookend HD versions of some classic adventures works. but what's it for? The classic fan has seen these episodes, and can do elsewhere on iPlayer or even has the DVD's, so we're watching because we want to see more of these characters. What we get is a couple of minutes either side. We don't get enough time with these characters we came to see again. for the new fan that hasn't seen much of the old show, just a few clips these book ends don't mean anything. The real story is just the one adventure they get to see. Being torn between these two and with a minuscule budget, no time to film and a set that looked more like a well lit prop room there is not much they could do. and yes our expectation were high. If they do do this again perhaps look at bringing mis-matched companions back. Jamie and Peri, so that can do the Two Doctors. Leela and Ace for Talons, where Leela tells the story (much like was hinted at with Clyde and Jo) Jamie and Rose talking about Tomb of the Cybermen.

I still dont have access to Doctor Who here in Mexico. The bbc channel latam doesn't exist for some years now. Some of the popular content went to other channel like the graham norton show and DW was briefly on a free streaming platform. After the disney deal it was removed and nothing is available. The only advantage i have is that I'm in the border so i got dvds from 🇺🇸 But now i have to ☠️ it in sketchy sites if i feel like watching it. Disney haven't say anything about the specials on the app or any kind of promotion to the new special so it's dissapointing. They really let go of their audience in latin america. 10 years ago a bunch of mexican whovians filled a room in a cinema for the 50th despite having an uncommon blizzard in my town and it was so fun. Having say so I come to thank you for your content. I don't understand the delight over this. So some of the surviving actors get together to gush in character for a few minutes bookending omnibus edits of classic stories. Er, how nice. You could argue that it makes a jumping on point for people new to the classic era, but has there ever been a show as "top tenned" online as Doctor Who? Interestingly, the only Doctor not represented here is the fourth. Louise Jameson, Lalla Ward and John Leeson are still alive...

TftT is Classic Who through the lens of Russel T Melodrama himself. Was it what I wanted, per se? Of course not. But then, you would need that Di$ney money to get to the level of 60th spectacle in MY head (cough _The Ten Doctors_ cough). They were made exactly for me, an old fan who grew up with these characters. Any chance to see Peri, Tegan, Ace, with their Doctors...bluray advertisement minisode, behind the scenes extra, outtakes, anything....I will eat it up. My favorite was Six and Peri. Mainly because it was awesome getting to see Six on screen again, in character. Would have liked him wearing the coat, but I doubt it fits him at this point. I also like the idea that these are incarnations from timelines where each Doctor never regenerated, and grew old in that body ala' Eleven did in the main timeline. Overall, a wonderful little appetizer (I hope) for more to come.

It's literally possible to do this now. They have the tech and the money. But they would rather waste $300-mill on the upcoming "The Marvels" flop.... (EDIT TO ADD: Can you imagine a Peter Jackson type director who obsesses over Doctor Who like Jackson did LotR, getting into Disney and making something like this? Shot around the world, with all the actors who have played the part, each contributing to an overall epic that reaches from Earth, to Gallifrey, and all the way back to 1963 Totters Lane? @@nataliecameron I don't think of the audios as canon... if they completely change the nature of the Doctor/Peri relationship, then that's nice if we want to idolise the Doctor... but it's basically taking the TV show and being like, ummm, nah we didn't like the main canon and we wish to change that... Also audios aren't a medium I gel with. I can't visualise easily amongst various other reasons. I actually really super duper value the Doctor being abusive to Peri, coz it's subtle enough that many will deny it was abusive in the first place, and it honestly helps me reflect on abusive relationships I've had with people in the past. I really like Colin's Doctor as a version of the Doctor who has no time for tact, and is a mask-off arrogant asshole. It's an interesting character study of the Doctor. The idea of the audios softening him out into a more acceptable version of the Doctor so that we can idolise his Doctor holds no appeal for me. I heard someone say that the show only works when we can see the Doctor as the villain and I quite like that approach. They aren't space Jesus. They are an anti-hero.
