They wouldn't have to pass such a bill if the government gave its citizens reasons to not criticize them, i.e. actually making the citizens happy and taken care of. The government just has to actually act in the best interest of the people and they'd have no problems with people criticizing them. In case of authoritarian rule i would assume, the motivations of those that rule and those that are being ruled , chances are higher they are not aligned. Capability to supress by an authoritarian state may also exceed the capabilties and willpower by those that would object but due to circumstances can't. It is true that anyone can strive to become more, but at times that strive is crippled by externalities like a regime taking away your freeedoms.

And the UK police used this law just days after it was given Royal Assent, because on the day Charles was crowned, some protestors were prevented from protesting because they were arrested and detained for many hours and even till the next day. So this is actually Zimbabwe catching up with the UK with laws to oppress it's citizens.

Africa has been increasing in violence, threats and outside influences towards our people. I love Zimbabwe and always will so its important always to set an example with how you do things or things gets done. So yea speaking amongst Africans is good and in good dialogue but to have outsiders try by all means to damage our countries then it's wrong. Looking at the sanctions in Zimbabwe its clear they never go away because the voices online are for them and some not; so its tough to please everyone without damaging a Country and its progress. Gold Mafia has him and the Wife mentioned so what happens with that? I agree with not speaking to outsiders in ways which destroys African; but we can't be silent when tyranny is taking place.

Canada's Trudeau does what is threatened by this law without a Patriot act: outlaws freedom of assembly only if anti-government, jails protesters against government policy, and has publicly said that protests specifically against government policy is not acceptable.
