Ukraine women in the army: Enough to keep up troop numbers? | DW News

Ukraine is in need of more troops, and discussions are underway about changes to the way soldiers are mobilized. A new draft bill would increase penalties for people who dodge the draft - and make more citizens eligible for conscription. One source that has so far remained largely untapped is women.
Around 42,000 women are currently estimated to be serving in the Ukrainian army - an increase of 40% in 2021- the year before Russia's full-scale invasion. At least 5,000 of those are reported to have been deployed at the front.
Currently, women cannot be conscripted and have to actively enlist if they wish to serve. New training camps are offering women opportunities to prepare for combat roles.

People are evacuated both by Ukrainians and Russians which is why the death toll among civilians is so low compared to other recent wars like in Iraq or what goes on in Palestine right now. UKR is winning, but that does not mean it is fun and/or perfect. There is a Maths to war, the US attacks w/ 3x force of the defender at min. RUS has done serious damage, but the failure to take Kyiv and the numbers for losses show they are not winning, so they switched to a war of attrition (std RUS) b/c they have bodies to waste. If RUS is allowed to win in UKR, then we have done appeasement, which does not work. Soon after they will have another grievance and try the same tactic, violence until appeasement. Try this, all their loss ~300,000 kia plus 1,000,000 who fled v. taking UKR 44,000,000 - 100,000 kia and 4,000,000 fled; RUS would still be +40,000,000 and that is just people, not incl land, resources, access to warm water ports. Do Calculus. You just do not understand what this is.

Unfortunately, this field of battle is governed more by artillery and it does not matter if you are the best soldier or a novice, if one of those projectiles hits you, you are finished and it was said that 80% of deaths were caused by artillery and missiles, currently command fronting civilians is just sending them to certain death. It is unfortunate that Zelenski has not already surrendered in a war that he cannot win, at least this way he could avoid more unnecessary deaths.

But even if Ukraine mobilise all men's from prisons it will be less than Russia could involve as volotntiers (even only 1 out 10 will agree). Second. We can assume there are old people,sick people and kids...but you're still gonna be left with 10 million people or so that have a duty to fight if summoned and can be trained.

I think that's a good sign. I have wondered why Ukraine delayed mobilisation. Russian troop strength is probably around 600 000 at the moment. In the Second World War, the Finnish army had just over 500 000 men fighting against 1.5 million Soviet soldiers. Finland's population at that time was less than 4 million! Ukraine's current population is ten times that. Today, Finland has a population of just over 5 million and a total army strength of over 800 000 soldiers.- Then there is this: the sons and daughters of the rich have a duty to defend their country. If this is not the case, the parents' property should be confiscated.
