or Less ports and less military bases. We need to start consuming more locally if we wanna turn this emission thing around. Like yes some raw materials only exist in some places but do we really need bananas in areas that can't grow them or other products that spoils fast? Spices that lasts for years is a whole different thing but fish, fruit, meat and so on that spoils is draining one area to feed another area... Its not sustainable and we humans need to restrict ourselves at least in numbers to the local areas then if the restriction should be 1000km or 5000km I can't say but 95% should be withing 500km not from the other side of the planet except if its a product with very long spoilage time.

@amadeuz819 The reason why the US economy is so much bigger than the rest of the world is because it has the biggest railroad in the world(China just surpassed it this year). The 2nd largest number of ports in the world(behind China). As well as the most amount of dams and nuclear energy available for producing energy than any other country in history(China is quickly catching up). If you don't understand the importance of advanced infrastructure on how it plays a role in the prosperity and wealth of a nation you will never be able to create a sustainable society in today's world. The faster you can move goods through your nation and into people's hands the more rich you become. Look at Japan, 5 trillion dollar economy because of the Shinkansen high speed rail network that improves vertical integration of logistics in Japan. China surpassed this 8 years ago.

Why didn't US and the West built ports for all the developing nations when they were the dominant exporters dominant powers? US and West wanted the Rest to be just peoducers of primary products consumed part of the production but never progress to a position to challenge the West. China need the Rest to be rising economically so as to create nations that together with China can break the bondage casted on them - China alone ( or just Russia Iran,) not being able to do that peacefully.

Chinese are clever, they provide the loan to build a port in their interest, their companies to build to get the money back. and at the end the african has to pay it back with high interest. So chinese have the influence, a new port, the matrual ressources, work for their companies and the interest on the loan. the africans gave access to their internal market, gave some lands for a foreign military base, sold the integrity of their leaders, and pay for it. what a great deal.

(Long) *Facts* about Chinese 🇨🇳 debt-trap BRI loan to Sri Lanka that turned into a strategic port: - China was never transparent about its BRI loans. - It's about 10%, third highest among Sri Lanka's $51 billion foreign debts. - Chinese annual interest is at 3.3%, *5 times* higher than Japanese loans. - Among all loans, Chinese loans must be *paid first.* - Chinese loans are not money,* but construction debt.* - The loans must have *collateral,* such as mines, seaports, etc. - Most BRI projects China developed are useless but may be useful for *the Chinese military.* - Chinese workers, mostly *men unable to marry* in China, are transported to Sri Lanka for BRI projects. - China took the Hambantota seaport for *99 years* as Sri Lanka's unable to pay. - unable to pay, Sri Lanka asked lenders for renegotiation. All responded, *except China.* - When Sri Lanka tried to import necessities, China *blocked* it because of unpaid debts.

But the ocean is dominated by the United States, with more than 800 military bases, isn't it ? The fiscal year 2024 Department of Defense funding bill provides $824.3 billion, an increase of $26.8 billion above fiscal year 2023.

DW your way of looking at, and presenting China is through an American lens. This lens is blurred by how the US wants Europe and other allies to see China. This is the death trap for Europe. Europe needs to become its own balanced multilateral power in this world and deal with all other nations across the globe on mutual and respectful terms.
