India was ruled by powerful emperors before the British conquest. Aksai chin is not part of Kashmir. It is part of Ladakh. Kashmir is small region comprising of 10 districts in India and 10 district in Pakistan ( Pak version). Ladakh through out its history had been always a separate entity. The people are culturally, religiously as well ethnically different from Kashmir.

While pakistan after 1950 created 5 districts in kashmir and 5 district in jammu bringing total to 10.
