Just a note, don't run your DX6 out of batteries. I did last week and now the internal RF module doesn't work. I'm trying to get Horizon to fix it but no reply thus far. Keep tabs on your battery level and you should be fine.

Update--Horizon did replace the RF module and even the parts on the airframe I lost though it's not their policy to replace lost airframes. They said the RF module went to low power (which means it didn't work). The orange spektrum led in the middle of the transmitter is actually indication of the RF module working correctly. If you ever have problems with binding or transmission, check the orange led to see if it is lit. If it wont light, its off to Horizon.

Awesome radio. Just got back into flying Copters and Tri-copters and this is the perfect radio for me. I cannot honestly think of any reason why I would need anymore channels anytime soon. Very easy to use radio and feels great. :)

+Shadowx011 I don't often need more than 6 channels and can't often afford to buy the exorbitantly priced 7,8 or 9 channel receivers so I concur with your conclusion. My DX6 gets used quite often.

If you are thinking of buying the DX6, then consider the following:- Range is a little better than Park flyer Radios but i would never use one in an expensive model. You cannot boost the output from 100mw to 200mw like you can with the DX6i. They only work well with Spektrums own Receivers. Other aftermarket Receivers like Orange RX have reduced range. So be prepared to fork out extra cash for Spektrums expensive Receivers. Surrounding WI-FI internet transmissions WILL crash your Aircraft. The Toggle switches have the strength of toothpicks and break off easily. It eats Batteries, so you will need to upgrade the TX pack. I fitted mine with a 2s 1300mah Lipo. Spektrums Receivers do not come with PPM outputs, so not really suitable for FPV. Unless you intend to fit a satellite Receiver like the Lemon RX. Effectively giving you 2 Antennas and PPM output but why should you pay more to make your Radio more reliable?? It should work out of the box for this price. Basically the DX6 is dated DSM2 technology with a DSMX patch in a fancy case. My advice is to pay a little extra and get something better. I wish i had done so. Its too much of a headache figuring out why your model keeps losing signal because you flew 100 feet behind a tree.

After 45 years of modleing i have just bought this DX6 fantastic, not sure what im going to do with 40 plus Futaba recievers lol. one down point changing to Spektrum recievers even after cutting the lug off the side of servo lead plugs on the Futaba servos its a very tight fit. Great review.

Its all different today, before if you could build quick and burn the midnight oil perhaps a model could be built in a week, single chanel radio then 27 mhz.. no servo reversing or end point changing, wings with 1/16th ribs all hand cut then covered with silk stuck on with dope.........and a million more memories and skills that are no longer needed. got my dji 450 flying today, with the naza 2 .... gps its crazy, i remember 1986 puting my first video cam into a plane 8ft wing span, full size vhs camera lol the engine vibration shock the video head to peices, could hardly see an image lol camera weighed 4lb

I've got a DJI F450 as well. I am amazed by the stability of the naza controllers. If you're into FPV, you can get around OSD by using your voice prompts to tell you battery info (using spektrums telemetry system) or timer. I use the voice prompt for timer for EVERY plane and multi rotor I have. Super useful without having to keep peeking at the screen!

Both of them still have that plastic scroll roller and it always breaks and it's a real pain to replace it...they should of made it metal (someone did make CNC for a while), but the new DX6 has a better antenna for one as the Dx 6i had that flexible one that gets broken, have a charge port in the back for the Tx battery. Plus other features that are a improvement from the 6i ...I also think it is a lot easier to operate it. Like a Volkswagen ...anyone can drive it. The other thing is those little washers that keep the switches in place always get lose and even lost make sure you tighten them done of use a bit of rubber glue to hold them in place..I like the Dx 6

I would disagree on BEST FEATURE. Best feature is being able to import/export profiles. I am an amateur and programming from scratch was not fun as a novice. Spektrum did a fantastic job of having a ton of profiles for quadcopters from Blade which is what I typically purchase. I download all the profiles for my NanoQX, Blade 180QX, Indunctrix, 200QX, 350QX and Mach 25 and was flying in seconds. It was the #1 reason I upgraded from DX6i to DX6 ... that and I was too lazy to upgrade my screen with a backlight. Having that on the DX6 was a definite plus.

I will surely get one soon. At this point, I can't really justify another 80 bucks for the DX6. It looks like it has a lot of programming options but I'm only flying 3 and 4 channel planes now. I guess if you have quad copters or planes w/ flaps, ect the 6 is better. Actually the DX4E has been solid other than the rate switch which like you say is easily fixable.

Ha, ha things have changed huh? Got my DX 6 for $113 lightly used. Apparently, the guy bought it to use in a robotics project. He only eanred it to assign the gimbals to operate some home made electronics thingy, found out it wouldnt work, then sold it on E- Bay. No Receiver, but who cares? It came in the original box, in its original packaging, with everything included thatI needed. There wasnt even anthing programmed into it yet. it was still in Acro mode. Glad you like yours, I still have my 6i. I use it for training only now. Yup, its only a simulator now. sad, sad.

Hi Anders. The DX6 works with the AR635. I have this rx in my Parkzone Visionaire and works brilliantly with the DX6. Honestly, the DX6 is very easy to program. However, if you want to stick with Hitec, Hitec Aurora 9 and 9x are easier to program as they are touchscreen.

If I upgrade from the dx6i to the dx6 will i lose compatability with my blade helecopters? Some of my heles and quads are 180QX, Nano QX, 200 SR with safe, MCPX 2, Nano CPx, 450 3D. All of these are Blade brand. Will the Dx6 fly all of these?

Other big big problem with DX6i was that to use dual aileron servos the second servo goes into the aux (ie flap) channel so you cant then use the proper flap setup. This is crap if you fly gliders. Is this the same on the DX6? Cheers
@chrisstolle5664
@chrisstolle5664 10 жыл бұрын
Yup, no dual ail, spoilerons or flaperons if you have anything plugged into the gear channel on the DX6i. In the model setup on the DX6, you can set up one or two ailerons for the wing and still get flaps. Channels are all assignable up to 6. One aileron servo or two, one flap or two, flaperons, spoilerons are all possible on the DX6 as long as you stay within the 6 maximum channels. The more I play with the DX6, the more I realize that Horizon should have done all this from the start. I paid the same for the DX6i and the DX6. You get a lot more with the DX6.

Hey Chris, Nice video on the two... I have a DX5e (that was my first buy) But I do have a DX6 now that I love and after seeing you vid a few times I'm going to love it more. I have a question about how you set up the ARM button or switch, Can it be the same one for all quads on the DX6? I had a Night Hawk Pro bound to it with the H switch. That was done at the store when I bought both the DX6 and the Night Hawk. It was working fine until I binded with another Quad and it was good but I had not made a profile for that quad nor can i arm it. I'm thinking you first have to make a profile, then bind it and assign a arming switch? The Night Hawk will not arm using the H switch, Do I delet all and start over. Thanks
@chrisstolle5664
@chrisstolle5664 8 жыл бұрын
I assign all my throttle cut to the same switch on all models and my arm switch to the same switch on all multicopters. If you delete, copy your settings to another memory spot. Then when you start over, you can verify that your settings are correct in the new model. Then assign an arm switch or button. Or instead of deleting, just start a new model setup and you can switch back over to see if your settings are correct before deleting.

Everything you said in the last reply is good and will remeber it... The real question I was getting at is how or can you walk me though the steps of going in the menu and sub menu as to assigning a switch or button. Is the Throttle cut the same as the Arming switch? I mean when I coneccted the battery to my Night Hawk and switch H was in the away position, it was dis armed and waiting for me to switch it back or to me and then the quad would be in a idle mode, props spinning until I landed and switched it off or away.... Very easy arm and dis-arm... How do I get to that part of the menu to see the options in picking a switch or buton... Thanks so much fo your help.

Great review, Chris. This radio can go a long way. When I bought the DX6i I thought no way would I have more than ten plans. Heh, heh - that radio filled up FAST with all the FT designs I built. Here's a couple of bugaboos on the DX6i I hope they addresed: Did they upgrade the rollerbar to metal, not plastic, so it doesn't break? And, did they make it easier to mix elevons, AND not cut the throws in half while doing it. I had to watch about 5 youtube videos how to get this to work when I made the FT Delta. While we're at it, is the manual any better to figure out things like mixing?
@chrisstolle5664
@chrisstolle5664 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter, to answer your questions. No the roller bar is still plastic, albeit more substantial to the feel. No longer having to press hard to get a response. It clicks rather easily and is covered in rubber. Elevon mixing is now standard in wing setup. Honestly, the interface is so intuitive, I haven't spent much time in the manual. Though from what I read, I can safely say its easier to follow. Hope this helps.

If you have the expendable money, buy a DX6. It is just so much more. If you're tight on cash, either have your DX6i repaired (or repair it yourself using vids right here on youtube like I've done before) or buy a used DX6i for $100 or less on Ebay. Its really up to you. If you are solely using BNF by Eflite or Parkzone, get a spektrum. If you are a techy guy with expendable money, go for the FrSky Taranis. It takes a lot of programming but is capable of so much and you get to program to your needs. If you have expendable money and dont want to spend endless hours programming but want a ton of options coupled with the easiest programming ever, get a Hitec Aurora 9x. Hope this helps.

I'm already pretty invested into DSM2, I've had my DX6i since the very first batch(pre-order)... I've got a decent few Rx already, so my future planes will likely be mostly BNF or PNP from Horizon.... I haven't seen many others that have caught my attention lately other than the Fun Cub. My DX6i needs a new screen without all the scratches, as well as a couple toggle switches and the trim tabs replaced. I've "fixed" the trim tabs before. I think 3 of the 4 so far. They had to be reinforced with paper towel bits and CA.... I'm hoping that the trim tabs have been improved. I'm going to figure out the cost of sending in my DX6i and then go from there, eventually a DX6 is in the works. Thanks again for the input.

Hey Spencer, I don't know why youtube wont let me directly reply to you so I have to go this route. I really can't answer that question for you. That decision takes a few variables into account like how much expendable money do you have, how interested are you in flying, etc. Only you can answer those things. If you have the money and the interest, get a DX6. If you are a tech guy, get a FrSky Taranis. If you are testing the waters and want to mess around with a sim to see if you have the bug, then its not a bad idea to go cheap. You can sell it later (albeit for much less than you bought it). If you find that RC aviation isn't for you, then you arent out too much. If you are seriously drawn to RC aviation, get a serious radio. You won't regret it later! Let me know what you come up with!

Sh*t transmitter. Right out of the box, installed batteries, switched on and I got some weird symbols on the display, and them the transmitter froze. It reset itself, luckily the model was on the ground but I crashed two models with this TX. My guess is that the antenna when pointed directly at the model caused it to loose signal. The switches are BAD! 2 were loose right out of the box and one is damaged. The speaker sounds broken plus it's really quiet when It gives you voice feedback (volume turned up in system setting and the home screen). No vibrator or dual antenna which for the price should be included but oh well. It looks nice, that's about it.

I also had a problem with my DX6. Lost a model. I contacted Horizon and they replaced the faulty RF module and the model. It almost sounds like your problem was the same as mine. I would contact them and tell them all that's happened. They will repair it and possibly replace an airframe. I can totally understand if you are tenative about using it EVER AGAIN because you crashed two models.

Chris Stolle So was it a receiver problem or the actual RF module in the transmitter? And does the signal actually drop if you point the antenna at the model? I just ordered one of these... that seems like recall territory

It was the actual RF module. I let the batteries run down. When the transmitter voice warning came on, the RF module went in to low power mode and my parkzone visionaire bit the dust. Horizon replaced the module and my model but I learned to keep a closer watch on battery life. I ran the battery down a couple weeks ago without the same result so must have just been that one RF module. I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else so I haven't heard of any recall talk. But I will take the liberty to warn others to avoid the same problem. I think you'll enjoy your DX6.

Chris Stolle I sent my dx6 back for service, I got a brand new transmitter, I haven't had time to use it yet but hopefully it's sorted now, horizon was kind enough to back my models to 1gb sd card so that's a freebie at least. Fingers crossed I can be confident with this radio again

After having mine serviced, I havent had an issue with it. Hopefully you'll have the same experience. I was very tenative using it at first but I would say that I've got my confidence back in the transmitter again. Flew with it twice today no glitches.
