DYA717 Japan Railpass & Okinawa BURA-BURA July 8, 2024
[Toyoko Inn Kanazawa Kenrokuen Korinbo; Kanazawa; Omicho Market; Oyama Shrine] This trip is a laid-back Railpass BURA-BURA look-see around Japan and a quick trip to Okinawa. 6:30 a.m. breakfast at the Toyoko Inn Kanazawa Kenrokuen Korinbo. Yohoo.com says today might have a little rain and will be 79-84 degrees. I caught the bus to Kanazawa Station to get my seat assignments for my next Shinkansen leg to Shin-Kobe. Gotta address that “non-user friendly 😊” seat assigning machine since you can’t get seat assignments from the agents at the ticket office anymore. Gotta do-it-yourself these days. Then, I walked to Omicho Market, one of the must see sights in Kanazawa. Great market place on a scale comparable to other markets. Lots of seafood vendors as well as your green grocers, restaurants and your other gift shops. Then I headed to Oyama Shrine. Another recommended tourist stop.
I got a tip from the peanut gallery that Kanazawa is famous for its dark curry. You might keep that in mind when you visit next. I stopped by a café for a curry and beer snack. The poster/menu showed a dark curry but the actual serving a bit lighter than the photo but it was ONO. BUT, I don’t think it qualifies as the famous Kanazawa dark curry. Then I went back to the hotel to take a break. The next stop would have been the Kanazawa Castle ruin park and the Kenrokuen Garden but since I’ve seen them several times before, skipped it and called it a day.
OK, folks. It’s after 5 p.m. and I asked the front desk for a referral to a Kanazawa Curry restaurant. There is a Turbot Curry just a block away. It re-opens after lunch at 5:30 p.m. I ordered a small mixed curry plate and got an ONO, ONO, ONO evening snack. This is the real Kanazawa Curry. They sell take-home packets of Kanazawa curry mix for 510-yen.
This video is a composite of misc photos I usually share with family and friends. Nothing fancy; you’re welcome to view it.
