Difference between emo and scene: emo usually was your darker, black loos while scene kinda incorporates some of this but also adds pops of color, super loud and extroverted, hyper, etc. Both came from the same broccoli stalk, but just different florets ❤️🥦

i believe the biggest difference in emo and scene is the music. most emo music is like ur typical mcr sounding stuff. but music for scene kids was very electronic, still within the emo range but not exactly that. and the appearance also plays part. emo’s definitely dressed a lot darker, typically had dark hair and dark clothing. but scene kids weren’t afraid to have colorful hair and not only wear dark colors

It's so precious hearing you talk about how the "child you" would have loved this. And the amazing thing about this is that in fact you are nurturing the child version of you that always wanted this. In spirituality the younger version of us has never truly left our souls, it exists within us and everything we experienced or didn't get to experience as children stays with us. So what you did for this video, is actually very healing to your child self!!

I try telling people all the time that who you were as a kid is basically who you are. Emo is already coming back, but I think scene is coming back too, I hang out a lot in different hair forums and there's been A LOT of requests recently with "What's this hairstyle called" and "What do I ask my hairdresser for when I want this" with really old pictures of scene kids. I am SO here for bringing back scene and emo fashion. I’m absolutely up for doing custom extensions and stripes for my salon clients and I am so up for all the colour corrections and treatments I’ll get as clients too 😂 But yeah emo was less severe than scene, little bit of fluffy hair with a side part, generally no extensions, loads of eyeliner, more colour, less black, less neon and more skinny jeans, converse and a cute t-shirt, definitely little bead necklaces. At least around where I lived 😂 and scene kids were the ones who took it to the next level and we all secretly simped over them.

When I was 14-17 I actually had scene hair 😂 The hairdresser just gave me so many layers and I couldn‘t really style it correctly. After that I cut my own hair and achieved the hair cut I was going for. Then I had platinum blonde, blue, blue-black and black hair throughout the years. Everyday before school I teased my hair sooo much and I went through so much hairspray bottles. I fried my hair of with so much bleach and straightening I had to pay 300€ at the hairdresser to kind of fix it. It took me like 3 years to outgrow all the layers in my hair. And I was the only girl in my school having such crazy hair but I loved it 😂

Back in the day about 2008-2010 ish I tried being a scene kid aswell so this makes me nostalgic🤗. Only did so for about 2-3 years though and I wasn't very good at it either 😅. Then I moved on to visual kei/gothic lolita or some mishmash of harajuku styles + some ambiguous general alternative style. Ended up settling on the gothic style, mixing different decades of it (80's for example) into my own amalgamation of goth styles. It's so much fun to play with style and fashion and learning about the history of it. it's refreshing to see too so good on you Naomi for experimenting! Have fun! 🖤💕🖤💕

I was never a scene kid but I was low-key emo around 2006-2008, I did not pull it off lol. Was absolutely obsessed with lolita/kawaii styles later too but never had the money or confidence to invest into actually wearing it myself :') Actually I'm more alternative now than I ever was as a teenager.

I wanted to be a scene girl so badly 😅 had the septum piercing, wore black, stripped socks, studded belt and a couple of chains around, hair was impossible to nail. The fringe would just not sit were it needed to.. damn this video woke up all of those feelings. Thanks Naomi, your videos are always cool 😎

I know this is a year old video, but I just HAVE to comment on it. For all future scene/emo queens/kings and all things in between there are a few tips (that you might already know) and maybe a few comments about it all lol. 1. Hair dressers do NOT know what they are doing, because they have a typical guideline to follow. This hair style does not follow the guideline. The whole sectioning in 4's and what have you?? No! You want to have the biggest hair part known to manKIND. Buy yourself a razor comb (this will give you the edges you want!!) and cut your hair straightened. You cut & style as you go. It's meant to be messy. If you absolutely HAVE to or are afraid to cut your hair, find an older and open minded hairdresser lol. Tell them you want KISS (the band) hair & hair style. (That was my one and only success story.) They will probably know it's meant to be SUPER teased with lots of layers... I HOPE FOR YOU! REALLY! Do it yourself!! I promise it's not too bad! Buy a wig and practice if need be! Always cut a bottom layer to give yourself a guideline to the top layer. (If you mess up, you know what NOT to do next. Then you just hide your short layer with the top layer.) Your hair will probably lay different every day. Keep the razor comb handy! 2. The hairstyle is 80% of the look already, and most of the time back in the day.. people did not wash their hair. Sleep in it, and re-tease. COULD NOT BE ME! I tend to have greasy hair within a few hours of washing, so to that I say.. dry shampoo is your FRIEND. Wash. Dry with preference (I air dry.) Straighten at LEAST the bangs (curly sides and back? It's a party!) If it's JUst not behaving, dry shampoo. Too much hair spray can end up looking really really bad, so I use dry shampoo until I need my bangs in place lol. 3. The majority of the time, the hair was so damaged, but people still had it long, right? NO! People had incredibly short and volumized layers typically in the scene scene with extensions dyed to their hair color. just like in the video lol. Emo heads.. from my experience it was mostly real. Thin long sections, lots of layers on top. Dyed black. (sometimes half & half, sometimes a little peekaboo section.) Hair extensions are your friend in most situations though. If you have head weight sensitivity especially with long heavy hair, these layers are for you. I have an extremely sensitive head with very bad vertigo issues. Even as I am now 30, I am still in the beloved emo era, and the layers are mandatory! 4. For all the emos out there, what are you doing if you don't have band merch? Go to concerts! Buy the shirts (with dates on them to show you were really there) and wear them until they have holes in them! (do NOT disrespect other bands by wearing a band tshirt for a band that isn't there though. no no.) Also, do NOT wear your new shirt at the concert. first of all, it smells. second of all, bring a sling bag or drawstring bag. keep your shirt in there. People are NOT nice, and they will try and take it. And do NOT go into the circle/ring of death or wall of death unless you can handle it. You will know it when you see it! For all scene kids, don't take anything from anyone! This applies to everyone of course, but in certain places, the drugs are everywhere. Trips and many slips lol. 5. Scenes! As mentioned a bit in the video, accessories are everything! What do you MEAN you don't like hello kitty?? Wear it anyway! You've got to have the confidence to rock anything. Even if you don't have the money for the fancy clothes, buy an oversized neon construction shirt and rip it to shreds! Then accessorize! Wear ALL of them! You can get tons of really cheap bracelets and stuff at a lot of places. Nothing has to match. Wear them all every single day lol. 6. Find an eyeliner that can withstand ANYTHING. Take a shower in it. Sleep in it. DIE in it. Ok, don't do that. The most important part of these looks is eyeliner. Simple as that. Concerts and parties are sweaty gross! Eyeliner can make an entire look for both parties! Always line the water line too! Desensitize your eyes! 7. For both fashion parties, boots or converse! Are they comfortable? Probably not. . but they do go with everything! I own a SINGLE pair of converse until I have to buy a new one. You can actually customize them yourself on the converse website. Custom -> start from scratch. Boots! Go black with strings! 8. For anyone wanting a more masculine approach, follow the same hair steps without the extensions, unless you go the mohawk route. I would personally recommend a cool design with a fade to make it more edgy. Curved lines or spikes for example with the mohawk. For clothes, any shirt with a logo on the front will do. Cut off the sides and sleeves or if you're cold.. always wear the same jacket lol. fray the ends of the sleeves if need be. Accessorize with bracelets, belts that do nothing for you, piercings, and tattoos if necessary. 9. Tattoo sleeves! You can either get them done (and potentially regret later) OR! You can buy some decently realistic ones! It seems kinda silly, but why not? Your tattoos could change every single day! 10. A lot of scene kids will fade into the emo era. It's a lot less bulk, and a lot more you stop caring as much. You get your message across still, and even more so don't give a HECK. But sometimes.. it's NOT A PHASE MOM! (had to do it) 11. Get creative! It might seem dumb to just say that, but anything can be made into something else. The clothes you have now can still function into whatever style you need them to with just a little cutting. For me, I've warped my entire wardrobe down to only black things, and if I have to look decent for a job or something I just shove my bangs to the side and clip back the side my bangs are going away from. Still keeping the side part, but getting a little bit of the side that doesn't matter out of my face lol. 12. I'm sorry for adding so much, but these are still my glory days! Coming up from a poor family, I saved and did whatever I could to get myself to a concert. (do not go to concerts alone! I saved for 2 tickets and a shirt always.) I understand the struggle. I babysat and whatever ELSE I could find and had to keep that part hidden of me for the job at hand a TON. All I'm saying is, no money no problem. Rock what you have, and rock who you are. All these labels and whatever are really just about freedom of expression. Your hair color is OK! Even no hair is PERFECT! Wear the version that suits YOU! Not what looks good on others. . and if you have to contour.. use a gray or black and blend it. tends to be more vampy. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ! I HOPE AT LEAST ONE OF THEM IS HELPFUL!! MY TOP FAVORITE BANDS ARE.. just kidding (lots of love to all you future, past and present dark days children.)

I’d say I was “scemo” 😂 even though back then we all hated being “labeled” lmao, I was very inspired by both and was kind of in between/alternated (well I thought I was but I was actually just an awkward 12 year old with damaged hair and bad eyeliner who couldn’t afford the the clothes or extensions), I think one of the biggest differences was that scene was very inspired by rave culture, colourful, kandi, techno/hyperpop (of course they listened to other stuff too) emo was more dark I guess? people say the main difference was the music but I disagree most scene people liked the same music as emo people

hello, emo kid here. the difference between the two was the music---scene was more of a style and emo was more about the music, but emo did have specific style uniform when you consider how it evolved into its own youth culture. (can you tell i wrote a whole uni paper about this?) but, of course, there was a lot of overlap between the two, especially online. not sure if it was a genuine question but there ya go!

Omg this is my high-school life!!! I've wanted to do exactly this for so long. You have inspired me. ALSO, from my understanding emo was before and was more of a mood than a style. The mood was emo (emotional) so just essentially dark and miserable. Scene was more of an introduction of color and funky style. Emo wanted to fade away and scene wanted to stand out... if that makes any sense
