The Naruto Manga is much better than the Naruto Anime. The Naruto manga and Naruto anime have several differences and similarities, but one is much better than the other. The Naruto anime has some pretty terrible animation ati times while the Naruto Manga has a more consistent art and beautiful two page spreads.
But the main issue with the Naruto anime is the pacing. The Naruto filler arcs, the slow animation, long recaps, extended and unnecessary flashbacks, and the additional useless scenes added in the anime do a lot of harm to the anime series. The Naruto Manga has an extremely fast pace which is not translated to the anime at all, unfortunately.

rewatched part 1 with my friends, there's like a 3 episode stretch during search for tsunade where nothing happens except rewatching the same flashbacks. And then at naruto vs sasuke, it takes 3 whole episodes to finish the uchiha clan backstory before they actually start fighting

Here's my hot take, I'm glad the shows are mostly canon/filler mix and filler stretches in-between. I didn't realize how important filler content _could_ be until I watched anime that had absolutely none of it. Filler may do nothing for the overarching plot, but if done correctly, adds to the world building and character development.

But having a flashback to a scene that happens earlier in the same episode is too much. Not to mention how characters would just stare for like 20 minutes.

Overused flashbacks, unnecessary recaps and worst timing for fillers is what ruined naruto anime. Edited: what I meant by ruined is that it kinda ruined other people's impression of the anime, especially those who just started watching or a casual anime watcher. To a hardcore Naruto fan like me, it doesn't bother me much although I was slightly annoyed sometimes. I'm the kind of guy who watches all the fillers. No matter how miserable it is, I would still watch it cause sometimes the filler is fire. But to other people, this thing is what killed their interest from continue watching the series. I love Naruto anime. I read all the manga and novels, watching all episodes, movies and even the ova. It's my fav anime series and personally the best anime for me. I really hope studio pierrot learns the lesson considering how disastrous Boruto anime is and not repeating the same mistakes for the blue vortex.

@@caylinwithani To be honest, it’s only in the War arc that the fillers had bad timing, and I mean VERY BAD timing indeed. At a point, it just gets so annoying and would even make you forget where you stopped in the actual plot… assuming you don’t skip the fillers. For example, Sasuke and Naruto get killed, FILLER, Madara enters the 10 tails mode, FILLER, Guy enters the eight gates, FILLER, Guy attacks Madara and nearly dies until Naruto comes in to save him, FILLER, Naruto and Sasuke attack Madara with their new powers, FILLER. And here’s the worst part, after Madara finally puts everyone under Infinite Tsukuyomi and Sasuke saves Team 7 + Obito with his Susanoo, we get FILLER OVERLOAD with so many characters getting their own infinite tsukuyomi dreams (to be honest, TenTen’s dream episode and the arc about Naruto’s Alternate Universe where Minato and Kushina were still alive were actually funny and interesting). After this string of filler episodes that lasted throughout Op 18, we finally return to the actual plot where Madara says a speech about the Great Ninja wars, then gets betrayed by Black Zetsu and turns to Kaguya. And these aren’t even the worst examples of bad filler timing in the War Arc that ruin the tension and make the anime slowly become boring. I was so close to dropping the anime at the beginning of the war arc, where they kept introducing many dead characters like Asuma, some akatsuki members, previous Kages + many forgettable and boring characters. Up till now, I don’t even know which of those episodes were filler or not, just because of how bad the pacing was at the start of the War arc. The only thing that brought my interest back to the show after so many bad paced and boring episodes was Madara return… then even he became boring, lol, with his stupidly overpowered he was getting.

Yeah, I used to watch weekly videos on the early KZbin, showing the digitised manga. The youtuber I followed for this cropped into one or two panels at a time and added the soundtrack, sound effects, and dynamic transitions between panels. It was a pretty cool concept.

@@lucysteel2686 For real. The episode of Team 7 trying to see Kakashi’s face in classic Naruto and the Kakashi face reveal episode in Shippuden are two of my favorites. The filler episodes/arcs of Shino laughing, alternate timeline where Naruto’s and Sasuke’s parents never died, all 9 jinchuriki coming together to form their own hero team (Tsunade’s infinite tsukiyomi dream, I think) are also very fun and good ones, just to name a few.

@@foolishace3560 there are differences where I think the show improves certain aspects, and the fights are certainly one of them. One of my favorite examples is the Haku fight, even in the show (without flashbacks ofc) is over in the blink of an eye. So I was even more surprised it’s even shorter in the manga, and one of my favorite scene from Naruto in general is technically not even canon. The part where after Naruto punches Haku through the ice mirrors and it shows Naruto with the mirrors breaking behind him and his eyes lit up. Like that and the shikamaru interaction with his father after Asuma dies not being in the manga is crazy. So while it’s flawed over all and I don’t envy my younger self at all not knowing what good pacing or even filler meant back then, I still love the show.

Watching the show first time and back when it was being released, the flashbacks and recaps made sense. But now that we are able to binge them, woof they did it wayyyy too much. Some of the filler im ok with like Rock Lee vs the Sand Village's taijutsu user. But after i saw Road of Naruto, I started hoping for a HD remaster and to cut some filler and most flashbacks. Of course that aint easy since the soundtracks would have to be reedited and the episodes as well since. But still...would be cool.

That’s really interesting. I actually started reading the One Piece manga in December and am already in the Wano Arc (for non readers that’s around ch. 950 range). I’ve tried to watch some parts in the anime, but I’m stricken with how SLOOOOW it is 😭. It makes me realize how reading it is so much better because everyone has their own pace. Hence, why I was able to read that much in such a short amount of time, including some week long breaks I’ve been - accidentally - taking.

My biggest beef with the anime is that it exaggerrates what are one to two panel gags into full on skits with backing tracks. Similarly all the characters are more annoying in the anime than the manga due to this. Both Naruto and Sakura in particular get the worst of this. Also due to how long the anime has been running for, certain things just dont age well compared to the manga.

Sakura was introduced in chapter 3 as a member of team 7 and as Naruto's love interset throughout the entire series for 15 years which means that Kishimoto has planned for her earlier to play an important role in the story. Hinata on the other hand appeared in chapter 39 and was part of the last impressive team ironically Kiba's team, Naruto forgot most of the time that she exist because she barely appeared in the story, Kishimoto gave her since her first appearance a relative unimportant role. While in the anime Hinata appeared in episode 1, you see the difference ? You see how fillers can change the direction of the story ? Hinata was clearly meant to be a side character with an unrequited crush but she became a victim of her own popularity and got shoehorned into a position she was never meant to be in due to fillers.

to be fair and a lil pedantic, Pacing is also to some degree a difference in medium. With Manga, its up to you how much time you wanna spend soaking in each panel, unlike shots and scenes in Anime. For example, Reaction panels can be zoomed right past if you don't wanna dwell on them, you don't have that freedom with Anime.

I can’t speak for other series, but for the classic Big 3 (Naruto, One Piece, Bleach), the manga far outshines the anime most of the time.

Nah. People who only watch anime over manga don’t have attention spans at all. DBS manga had its own arc and was co-written by Toyotaro alongside toriyama yet the anime got wanked to oblivion when toriyama complained about the anime taking liberties with his work and he had to constantly remind them to follow his notes. He praised toyotaro in many of the interviews yet people insult him when toriyama approved of many of the writing in the series done by him

I agree but the anime does some things right. Kishimoto literally changed narutos Manga design because he fell in love with how he looked in the anime (he looked different, not as different as some of the fake pictures woild.make u believe but their was differences)

Ima correct you on one thing. Manga DOES make fluid fight scenes. Way more fluid than anime. It's just that most readers and people who don't reader don't have the eyes to follow the action when it's not on a reel or have flashy effects thrown at them. For Artist and Most Avid Readers half the time the anime doesn't do the BEST scenes Justice. It's one of the reasons Manga like Vagabond should NEVER get an Anime because it just will never compare.

Naruto anime is good at pacing only thing that makes it feel slow is its filler other wise its just 428 eipdode combined which didn't made me bore once also didn't felt slow paced at all and story was somtimes so fast i felt it should be slow for e.g like i didn't even know how i finished from sasuke recuruting his team mates too kill itachi to pain distroying the village and sasuke joining akatsuki and naruto becoming hero of yhe village i finished all of this in 2 day ig and i didn't even got bored at once not felt slow paced compared to one piece

Anime pacing is always held back by nit being seasonal anime. I dont watch one piece for a good reason. Tried watching it recently starting in wano and oh my goodness its a snails pace. When your anime arc is more episodes than the manga chapters used to make it then thats a big problem.
