Why The Naruto Manga Is So Much Better Than The Anime

The Naruto Manga is much better than the Naruto Anime. The Naruto manga and Naruto anime have several differences and similarities, but one is much better than the other. The Naruto anime has some pretty terrible animation ati times while the Naruto Manga has a more consistent art and beautiful two page spreads.
But the main issue with the Naruto anime is the pacing. The Naruto filler arcs, the slow animation, long recaps, extended and unnecessary flashbacks, and the additional useless scenes added in the anime do a lot of harm to the anime series. The Naruto Manga has an extremely fast pace which is not translated to the anime at all, unfortunately.

Honestly i liked the filler, it was a good rest to see more of the rest of the cast working together. At least there Rock Lee got a bit of respect showing him fighting not only with taijutsu but also using his weithed steel together to make a broom to fight. I think that happend in one of the movies but it was a great scene.

One thing that has always killed me to this day is the Final Fight. There's one panel in the Manga they left out in the anime and it holds ALOT of meaning. When Sasuke says to Naruto he has no family, there's a panel in the Manga of Jiraiya's grave Naruto made for him. That would have meant SO MUCH to put in that fight. I still can't believe they left it out.

Minor point but the anime studio also seemed to go out of their way to make Sakura weaker and unlikeable, (on top of Kishimoto often faltering with her character). There's quite some difference in her actions and character in the manga and light novels to the anime. They even did that in one of the last arcs of Boruto. My biggest issue for the anime is honesty how they treat sasuke leaving the village in part 1. In the manga, sasuke leaves with the sound four essentially straight after his run in with Itachi and his fight with Naruto at the hospital. This setting is much more fitting for sasuke to run because he realized he wasn’t making any progress on catching itachi and Naruto was caught up with him so something needed to change. IN THE ANIME THO, Sasuke comes back from seeing Itachi and just is kinda fine. They then had a filler arc with that electric sword dude where Naruto saves the day WHICH MAKES SASUKE SALTY AND LEAVE THE VILLAGE because Naruto had the final blow My favorite character in all of anime is Sasuke but the anime really does make him way more of a jealous kid instead of the avenger of the Uchiha that the manga better portrays him as

I'm currently working on an edit of Naruto that completely removes overly long flashbacks that weren't in the manga, cuts down on "staredown" moments, removes mixed filler content in canon episodes, and removes all of those 4 minute "recaps" at the beginning of episodes. It will be similar to that of Naruto Kai/Cut to Manga, where episodes are combined to cover the content of each Manga Volume (so there will be 72 episodes total). The video sources used are the highest quality I've ever found (unlike Kai where the video quality is pretty terrible). It's called NaruCannon, and there's a Discord for it! I'm currently on Volume 18, and it's a passion project, so I'm hoping I can finish it soon!

Nice. I recommend looking at the Ocean cut if you haven't heard of it. He did everything you mentioned and kept the good filler parts. I haven't watched it all through yet, but it seems to be the best cut so far. Although if you prefer the sub, his version is in dub, so keep that in mind.

I really believe that the Kaguya/Black Zetsu arc were meant for Boruto. Madara was built up since the OG Naruto as the main antagonist. And given the fact that the whole Otsutsuki clan is explored in Boruto gives even more credence to the fact. Now why would Kishimoto add (shove) Kaguya into Naruto? Simple, Naruto was still in peak popularity and corporate strong armed him to extend the series further. Again, its just something I still strongly believe til this day.

There are two filler segments in Naruto that i like. One is the one with the crystal kekkei genkai lady and the other is the stuff that shows how the infinite tsukuyomi looks like, from the perspective of one's that are trapped. Even though the latter one is pretty long, and does kill the pacing in a mayor way, it's just interesting to me. I hate pretty much all "oh no, fillergakure is in danger, we need to help them" filler arcs.

Naruto has a LOT of characters and seeing some of them get an episode, filler or not is something I can't hate on rather it's bad or good. I do wish the filler gets sorted differently as to not drag the momentum away from the main plot. I really don't get why anime use extended fillers the way they do.

I will say, my favorite episode of the whole show is mostly anime original content. The way episode 82 of shippuden expands on shikamaru’s response to asuma’s death in chapter 330 is fantastic, and his conversation with his dad is to this day one of the my favorite moments in anime history, and I’m glad you brought it up But one golden exception doesn’t disprove a rule.

I was introduced to Naruto via the anime with the Rock Lee vs Gaara fight. I have LONG since switched to the manga, and although it took many years, I have been able to collect the entirety of the Naruto manga and it is something I am so proud of.

Heh, same thing here, I was already a big manga/anime fan but so far I had skipped on Naruto (you can't read/watch _everything_ right?), and one day on TV the new Naruto episode comes out and I happened to be watching, and those 2 dudes are about to fight, and DAMN I was glued to my seat the whole episode, and after that I asked my fellow manga collector friend to lend me his Nauto collection so I could binge it, which I did in about a week maybe (at the time the manga was right before the "War Arc", we didn't know who Tobi was, etc etc). All of this because they were airing the Rock Lee vs Gaara fight when I happened to be watching TV, which I almost never did (why watch TV when you have internet?) and that fight had everything.... You immediately got hooked because the 2 opponents have such contrasting designs & fighting styles, you immediately learn everything about who that Rock Lee guy is from the flashbacks, and you guess the Gaara dude is bad news from his siblings reactions and his overall look... The techniques are cool, they aren't flying around throwing Bijuu bombs are each others while using Susanoo, the fate of the world isn't on the balance, but the stakes still feel very high.... Naruto might not have ended up in my top 5 favorite mangas of all time, it might not even break the top 10, but I'm still very happy to have read it, and to have been able to live through the war arc in real time It was a pain in the ass since some parts are really dragging, but it was still fun to see the insane twists alongside the rest of the fandom; there were soooo many burnt-out fans who were "done" with Naruto and just read the latest chapter "out of habit and because after all these years might as well read the ending" and were just so bitter about everything, it was kinda funny ^^ Madara vs Might Guy was the one moment in the war arc that had everyone shutting up for a while and appreciate a fight instead of complaining ^^

I'll probably remember more later and be pissed, but if someone has never read any of these, then I'd recommend them over Naruto any day, and I like Naruto (and just follows Boruto a bit) What's yours?

The thing with the Naruto anime is that there are some moments of brilliance that far outweigh the manga. Both fights between Naruto and Sasuke, Kakashi vs Obito, Rock Lee vs Gaara and so many other fights were handled so perfectly that even if you prefer the manga overall, you would still be missing out by not watching the anime

One thing I want to point out for filler episodes in relationship to character development, is that filler arcs and episodes serves to more effectively develop characters that wouldn't have been developed anyway in the manga. - Personally, it's a mix bag between fillers, but I like the ones where it develops a character in a way that does not contradict anything in the manga, but instead helps provide more depth and screen time for a character and makes the viewer feel closer to them. I'll explain more in the replies for those interested.

Ex: Filler episodes for flashback only characters (like Rin, Shisui, and Hagoromo's family). - They're never going to pop up in the canon again and do something relevant in the future. All of their scenes is something that occurred in the past and therefore doesn't effect manga content in the slightest, but instead may even add to it since you had the chance to get to know these guys and build more of an attachment to them, and get a better understanding of the views of whoever is having that flashback.

Another example would be side characters/supporting cast that don't get much screen time or development in the manga like Tenten (or Mugino in Boruto). - When characters like them receive filler episodes (be it flashbacks, or just downtime in between plot) it serves to add more depth to their personality and make whatever they do in canon that much more impactful and engaging since whatever happened in the filler doesn't contradict anything but adds to it. A good example of this would be the Shikamaru centered episodes that occurred after Asuma's death.

What filler episodes means for more prominent characters like anyone of team 7 only serves as a way for the audience to spend more time with them and see sides of themselves they otherwise wouldn't get the chance to see in the manga due to everything needing to keep a fast pace to meet deadlines and keep the viewer's attention. Sometimes, if we're lucky, the mangaka could even use the anime filler to sneak in content they wanted add into the manga but didn't have the time/chance to. And episodes where exactly that is done helps provide more context and, again, depth to a character. Examples of this being filler episodes set to when Sasuke was still in the village. These episodes serve a purpose of seeing Sasuke bond with his team and understand that much more why his team cares for him so much and is so desperate to get him back.

The term "Canon" refers to anything that is labeled as "true" or "official" by the original creator. Since most mangaka don't really add false information to their stories, and portray everything with the intention of establishing it as a fact that should be referenced and taken seriously, the entirety of a manga would also be considered "Canon." It's for this reason that anime adaptations are considered canon when they follow the manga. They are adapting content that was preestablished as a fact from a source directly worked on and approved by the original author. What people don't realize about this is that something doesn't have to be in the manga to be canon, what it needs is to be approved and affirmed as a fact by the original author. It's for this reason why some of the movies (Naruto The Last + Boruto the movie) as well as the novels, and very few episodes are also considered canon despite never appearing in the manga. Same can be said for episodes referencing things talked about in the manga but never shown (like the second chunin exams, or any ObiRin flashback). The term "Anime canon" refers to content in the anime that was either approved by the original author, expands upon established facts approved by the original author, or maintain relevancy/continuity in the story of the anime. This term is especially popular with Boruto's anime because if you ever sit down and watch it, you'll realize that the anime seems to operate in a separate yet similar continuity to that of the manga to the point that it can be seen collectively as a different story altogether. It's non-manga content that doesn't contradict the manga in the slightest and is relevant to the narrative the anime illustrates (like content involving Sumire, Denki, and Boruto's other classmates). Point is, not everything not listed in the manga is non-canon. You only need to be approved by the original creator to be considered such. And the original creator can just as easily create things that completely retcons something previously accepted as canon, so there's no point nit-picking over manga content, but mangaka content instead. Ex: The current direction of Dragon Ball + manga that contradicts previous manga canon events, and One Piece Trivia that wasn't listed in the manga, but still answered by Oda in fan-mails and interviews.

If you dislike her that fine Now the build up for Kaguya is much better in japanese because black zetsu talk in a specific way (katakana) when everyone in Naruto speak in Hiragana When the god tree (Kaguya) speak to Madara to absorb her, the dialog is written in Katakana, it's a direct foreshadowing that black zetsu is her will since the beginning. It's the reason why the twist is bad in others languages. The replacement of madara is not the problem (it makes sense with his character) but zetsu being the mastermind and being related to Kaguya comes out of nowhere Kaguya being here since the beginning (with black zetsu) without we noticed her is pretty cool

Since I watched Naruto after it was completely done, I can still complain about the filler episodes because yeah the pacing was my biggest complaint about Naruto, every time it got good I would get hit with a filler and it would take me out of the story and I would have to go look up the filler list just to skip to where I was at, and I also hated how they would recycle flashbacks repeatedly and use them in later seasons like for example the flashbacks of itachi and sasuke training, I’ve seen it so many damn times

I think it's because the show was airing on TV for so long. Sometimes people need those flashbacks to remind them why that past event was relevant to the current story. Nowadays we live with streaming where people can binge watch over time and don't quite need the reminders.

When Naruto was still in productions I read every new manga issue and watched each new anime episode. Ultimately I got excited for both of them, but I was more excited for new anime episodes. Sometimes I wouldn't understand what happened in the manga, so I would wait for the anime episode to show it more clearly. And seeing it all in color and motion is better to me. The Team Guy fights in the Gaara rescue arc was my first instance of feeling like filler and it got worse with the Sasori fight. That was the moment I truly commited to the manga.

I watched the Naruto anime series until after the Pain arc. I was using the filler list at some point after that but gave up after having episodes with 6 minute flashbacks. I switched over to the manga and was absolutely floored by the pacing. I was expecting less flashbacks, no fillers and stuff but the fact that I was able read to the end of the manga in 2 weeks rather than having to consistently check where the flashbacks and timewasting was going to happen in the anime was lovely.

The Naruto anime needs to be Re-animated. They have no idea the numbers it would do. No filler modern animation. People forget that all of the Naruto anime and Naruto: Shippuden up to around when Naruto begins his training to create the Rasen Shuriken animated in 4:3 aspect ratio, if you’re watching on a TV that’s not from before before 9/11 then you’re going to notice a lot more of the age of how the show is presented. Now 4:3 aspect ratio had its time and place and sometimes still does today (if only in very small circumstances) but seeing the black squares in the sides of the screen really bother me and I’d imagine a lot of other people. Plus just an opportunity to have an adaptation that is ACTUALLY worthy of the source materials name would be amazing to see in my lifetime and if need be I would personally not mind helping with crowdfunding if that were to be the direction the animation studio were to take in regards to financing the re-creation of a new Naruto anime

I agree with most of what you say with those few exceptions: Utakata`s story was one of the coolest. Utakata is one of the best characters. And his fight against Pain was amazing. Guren`s Arc with the 3-Tails was perfect and very important. Kaguya may not be cooler than Madara but i love her. She is one of the best and most op villains of anime history. Kaguya >>> Sukuna, Beerus, Buu, Frieza, Cell, Muzan, etc. Zetsu is also underrated. I really appreciate his character. Ah, filler episodes. 13-year-old me didn't know they were a thing either so I sat through the whole anime until I caught up with it (from 2013 to 2016). I remember the horrifying realisation that I essentially had two options: Watch everything as it aired once a week, even the fillers, or wait until the anime finished (which at that point, I didn't know when that would happen) so I could skip the fillers. Isayama was never super good at drawing so it wasnt exactly hard to make the anime look better, especially since it was WIT studio making the adaptation at first. Character designs are simplified because they have to be drawn thousands of times and in fast paced animated scenes you can do a lot more with a less detailed character. Id argue most anime dont look anywhere near as good as the manga and when it does its the exception.

Filler can be ok if it is written by someone that gets the show they are working on and its characters. Of course it can't move plot or conclude character arcs, but it can be neat to have more character interactions and chances for them to do their things. The boy that wanted to be Hoshikage in the Star Village one is serviceable. We get to see Naruto interact with another kid with his same name. Characters get to do more of what they do. There's a couple fights. And you know, it doesn't ad, but it doesn't subtract. It's another little mission for the ninjas to do and interact with themselves. The random episodes where there's a competition or an absurd mission or the entire thing is a gag or they have to walk back on everything by the end of the arc because it can't be canon is a terrible bold way to do filler. But you know what? Entire filler episodes or fillers have, with time, proven to be superior to be the superior form of filler, if you can even say that. Take One Piece for an example. It tried filler seasons twice, they not only didn't work, they also sucked at reading their own characters. So they stopped doing them, and instead focused on extending the credits, reaction shots, conversations, padding the entire run time with people repeating talk points, jokes, etc. The result is that One Piece is fine weekly or can be fine on a first time watch, but it is DREADFUL for streaming and rewatches. You have to skip 10 minutes of the episode everytime and then sit through 5 minutes of things that aren't the five minutes of things you actually want to watch. On the other hand, seasonal shonen has been looking better, yes, but every other week there's another show being exposed to working their animators to the bone in crunches and bad pay and shit like that, so it isn't exactly worth it. Also a lot of these shows suffer immensely from hype dying down.

Manga with select anime episodes is the best experience, as the manga has really excellent paneling and clean art, with proper pacing and content better represented (not to mention anime obfuscates some canon with its filler). However, they’re are many episodes that greatly improve on the manga in its additions, direction, and production but also there are some that properly rearranges manga chapters so that immersion is not broken. The manga is pretty bad in how it has multiple events play out at once and keeps shifting POVs when something big is going on in one of the POVs. It breaks up Jiraiya vs Pain very poorly for example.

I think something that is a perfect middle ground at least for Shippuden is storm 2-4 they really added to and perfected many scenes including Naruto vs Sasuke (At the end) as well as generally making the Tenchi Bridge arc cool. I said the stand still and talk thing is just how back then anime would adapt from the manga. In the manga it easy to just put a big part of a dialogue in a single pannel, but that translate poorly in anime, hence why the standing off staring at each other and talking (Or those moment when they dash in to attack and it take 50 year while they talk). Seasonal anime don,t have that problem since they acctualy got time to fill up those moment with some animation.

Actually for some reason I don't find the fights in the seasonal animes that emotionally impactful at all. Its like 5 to 6 minutes of God tier fluid animation but then thats it. Tobi vs Minato was such a short fight and there were staredowns and dialogues involved but the tension was maintained and the fight just sucks you in for some reason. And when some of the longer fights in Naruto finally ends it feels so fulfilling like we have gone on a journey with the characters ourselves.

I want to add my 2 cents about a similar situation... "Black Bullet" is one of my favourite anime but along the way I was interested in the source material which in this case is the light novels. I like reading so I was excited for that yet the only reason that had kept me from reading my stories is the fear that nowadays the television and such has made the viewer expect flashy events on the screen that blow away ( or off...) your mind. So I took a deep breath, and got myself a physical copy of the first light novel. I was shocked. The experience actually was far greater than the anime! And it was one of the anime that I liked the most!! ( well... granted, I think it was because of the story and the characters which honestly makes more sense why the characters felt more *alive* in the light novel) I should also emphasise that one of the coolest fights that were in the anime lasted few seconds while... in the light novel I spent an hour - two hours reading and it was the best fight I had ever perceived in any media; how is that possible?? Obviously they cut down the fight in the anime but I just can't fathom how something that I originally in motion viewed as cool became dozens of times cooler in... written format. And, I think this is more of a thing in the light novel "DanMachi" but in "Black Bullet" there are also some parts that have been adapted differently in the animated format: to the point it feels a different story entirely. For the light novel that I originally mentioned, the ending is superb: "Black Bullet" is my second all time favourite book and I read a lot... Cheers! I mean, it's all subjective at the end of the day. I honestly enjoyed some fillers that helped to flesh out some characters, like Guy, Kakashi, Utakata, even seeing some of the dreams of the infinite Tsukuyomi (not to the 32 weekly release extension though! lol). At the sametime, I like the idea of the villain's misdeeds having a direct or indirect affect in the real world creatively (putting us, the viewers in the infinite Tsukuyomi by way of extended fillers of the characters dreams. lol Danm Madara--I still love him tho).
