I think people tend to forget that making one BBB game that did unexpectedly doesn't mean that you go from indie developer to ubisoft overnight and every game you make subsequently is going to be the witcher and skyrim meets GTA 5. It's pretty difficult to make an open world game full stop. Tbf the story was shite, but so is the story for valhalla and a lot of games. Ubisoft cranks them out every 18 months because they're a giant company and they just use them as money spinners. Ffs it even took Rockstar 5 years between GTA 5 and RDR2, and they've been making AAA open world games since 2001. Edit: As I said the writing and story is absolutely trash, but I don't think that issue has anything to do with the length of development cycle, some of the best games ever made storyline wise were rushed buggy messes when they released, whereas other games that took years had unbelievably shit storylines (mass effect andromeda for example). So I don't think 7 years guarantees you a good game story wise anymore than waiting for 7 years for a film sequel means it'll be well written. Two different things entirely imo.

It could allow for a skill tree specific to volatile powers, maybe dlc? i know i'd buy that. Imagine how awesome that would be, not to mention story wise it would be interesting too. It was obvious to me that the water guy would try and kill me to protect his secret, if I told him straight that I wouldn't keep his secret, plus he had no way of knowing if I would keep my word of I promised not to tell. So I lied, said sure, and took his bribe, but planned to tell the truth anyway. Then the game locks you into that choice, and forces you to keep it a secret even though you don't have any reason to once you get back to the bazzar. I fully intended to tell the truth, but instead Aiden keeps his word, and let's an innocent man die. 2nd time I did the quest, I was honest and told the man I would tell the bazzar everything, and he OBVIOUSLY tried to kill me. I mean shit, it's the same kind of stupid decision we all make fun of dumb crime show and horror movie characters for making "you're a murderer, and only I know! I'm gonna tell you loud and clear that once I walk out of this room, that we are currently in alone together, I'm gonna tell the cops and get you killed. My biggest gripe is how grim the world is made to be. Imagine you live in Goodsprings, Nevada, or and Island on the coast of Ireland. The virus wouldnt even reach you. But most spectacular is the gun plot hole. The city was apparently raided and ammo ran out, but if the peacekeepers halted the military/renegades, they would've had firepower and the ability to make it. Not to mention military convoys that have been left out have axes and katanas inside even though they would have guns and ammo, unless you're saying the military took their guns when they left but not their transportation and left museum items in their place, also there shouldnt be tennis ball grenades in a labratory left shut before the need arose. Just like with military medkits, the game should've had items from before (guns, grenades, and practical melee weapons) and items made after like the "honey flower medkit".

It's really fun don't get me wrong but it's an easy walk in the park. I cleared out the bridge for luls with melee weapons on my last new game. Also I didn't like using guns in 1 because you kept getting the runners.
@connorsucks38472 жыл бұрын
Guns will almost certainly be the focus of an upcoming dlc. Its been hinted at that there was a massive stockpile of weapons somewhere in the city and I wouldn't be surprised if they become the focus of a story dlc as it would be insanely powerful for whichever faction got a hold of them. I'm guessing the reason they didn't have guns in the base game was to incentivise engaging with the improved melee combat because at a certain point in the og game it was easy as hell to clear out anything with a decent shotgun and that would remove much of the challenge from this game (which is already much easier than the first dying light due to nights being a lot safer). My assumption is that the player will be able to get a decent variety of guns however they will cause volatiles to chase you at night or attract large groups of enemies during the day

I see themes and intents throughout the story that give it a good foundation, but so much of it seems to be thrown together from multiple drafts from half written scripts. I have a few points of speculation from what I remember: 1: Lawan was supposed to be the female main character. From having a more interesting story and personality, to being a loner, to being roughly on par the few times she's directly with you, she seemed like she was originally going to be a choice of a female protagonist, with Aiden the male. And/or a co-op character. 2: The Butcher. Given how much he's talked up, I'm fairly certain he was either supposed to be the main antagonist, with Waltz either added later or a more subtle or even secret villain. The demo we saw before, years ago, literally spoiled half the endgame, and I don't think they would do that unless it was one option of an ending, or they were a joinable faction. For example, if I recall right, they had said that our actions would drastically alter the city, and possibly even it's landscape; specifically flooding parts of it. And there is a dam that is important enough to add to the game and have a location marker, but never visit. I think that the renegades would have destroyed the dam in order to take out the PK base with a wave, forcing it to crash into the city buildings. But I'm rambling on this point by now. 3: Volatile Aiden. I don't have much for this besides the fact it was added to the game at all, but I feel like it may have been intended to be an actual mechanic, whether triggerable, or being out too long caused it, and UV ending it, but the rapid onset of it, in spite of (or because of) inhibitors, and how he was seemingly so special in the experiments, it stands to reason that combined with being so close to a cure, and him likely having that almost cure, gave him some control while under the infection's influence, possibly similar to the matriarch in the first DLC..

Your choices matter but not really. Only three choices affect the ending you get. That said for story missions who you side with gives you different missions. Bazaar blows up the wind mill, Pks you get a. Tunnel segment where your trapped because the wind mill gets blown up. For Juan and Matt Juan sends you to a tech Savant to bug the communications and he lives in a massive church with a demolisher. Matt you get the mission Dart showed. Also you can get another mid game waltz fight instead of fighting Hakon in the Jaun route If you side with Juan Frank dies anyway, Lawan goes to the island and kills everyone. Also it makes the most sense, story, persoanlity, and gameplay wise to side with the Bazaar but I’m sad they got no sins for being just the most disgusting, evil assholes. Even when you side Against the Peacekeepers the survivors try to kill aiden the most. (If you include Side quests. Counting only main story it stays even) Also no sun for them trying to hang aiden? You are the best roaster and the best when it comes to taking apart the details of the game. The reason stated they try to hang Aiden is he’s turning, makes sense. But in the cutscene someone asks why don’t they use a shovel? And then it comes up later that the whole bazaar can’t take on One infected man, despite fighting peace keeper squads, and that hanging him was the “only” way. Despite the fact uv lights are everywhere

I was quickly getting bothered by the fact that both factions who were willing to help Aiden required him to help them multiple times before even giving him one ounce of what he needed. I was getting annoyed by the very slow pacing when it came to the main story, but I dunno, I guess I'm just getting impatient anymore 😕🤷♀

My biggest problem with the game were the cut-scenes before a fight. Every single jackass that starts a fight with you always gets a sucker punch on you. You're supposed to be a badass, and you can be a badass in actual gameplay, but the moment a cut-scene happens, you turn into some chump who gets sucker punched every 10 seconds. I hated it. My main problem with DL2 is that there hasn't really been any progression whatsoever over 10 years. I thought there would be a faction of sentient volatile, more variants of volatile, and more GRE control (whether it be in the shadows or up-front). Kinda wish that there was some sort of "super" inhibitor that would make an appearance. That Volatiles would be more active. Most of all, make Waltz a secondary antagonist and give the protag a reason to fight other than wanting to "rescue" Mia and having no real plan to do anything after that (copying what spike said about settling down, especially in the context of Aidan then truly believing Mia to be his sister is low key disturbing, shows very little thought on what to do afterwards).

@crazydynamite_10032 жыл бұрын
Different groups of people believe in different way of governing/problem solving. When they can’t come to terms/agreements, war is very likely to happen. The last of us and dying light are both setting in an environment that the people are used to the new norm (constant zombie threats) and progress as human societies, and eventually comes to the point that other groups of survivors might be more dangerous than zombies, just like normal societies we currently live in.

I’m starting to think that they actually are encouraging you to go with the peacekeepers in the most unsubtle way possible with the most unbelievable characters. Think about it, at every turn the survivors are at your throat and at least half the time the peacekeepers are reasonable and actually appreciate your work. And the other half they reasonably declare you an enemy when you give them every reason to do it. Hell, even the nightrunner leader introduction is a drunken jackass who you don’t care about just as much as everyone else. Now I don’t agree with the way they presented and executed it (like at all cause holy fuck is it not subtle whatsoever) but I’m starting to think you’ll have a lot better of a time if you side with the peacekeepers.

@Trojianmaru2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on what you liked about DL1 really. The combat is fun, but due to the character spending years fighting zombies and parkour-ing their way through wastelands (and other spoiler reasons) they start off much better at fighting and Parkour than Crane did. The environment is also a lot more bland, but that's because it's been years since the zombie outbreak, so the city has become overgrown with plant life, and everyone lives on rooftops and in walled off sanctuaries. Also Parkour became the only way to survive, so literally everyone can do it now, even children. The zombie AI seems a lot dumber now, and volitles while stronger, are much rarer, but I don't have an explanation for that. There's also a LOT of reusing of assets, by which I mean you'll find a lot of dark zones that are identical to each other, differing only by the path you have to take through them, and you'll find a LOT of courtyard areas that are identical to each other. As for the story, I couldn't really say....the bugs were so bad, that 90% of the cutscenes had to be skipped, so I ended the game having barely any idea wtf was going on. So if you do decide to play it, but aren't desperate to play it right now, wait till Techland fixes their shit, and releases a LOT of patches. As it is right now, the game can be borderline unplayable, and there's no New Game+

I don’t know why they introduced these variant zombies and used the poorly if they used them at all. The Banshees almost never show up outside of one scripted encounter and one quest, when they as one of the more nimble and jump capable zombies should harass you when you are above street level. The Goons are out in the open usually very easy to see and this allows you to encounter them on your terms instead of being around corners under cover or surprise enemies you have to scramble to regain your footing to engage. Volatiles are so hard to encounter that you almost never do unless you want to, they only show up outside if you’re really reckless or inside if you choose the wrong time to go in, they too should always be prowling about at night and above street level. Bolsters are useless and easy to kill but they are supposed to be I think… Whatever the spitting ones are called almost never detect you to attack you. Howlers are basically blind and all marked so you can easily avoid them. Virals don’t show up often enough, you usually have to attract them to encounter them. The Exploders are not a worry outside of a single story mission… Special infected are almost always clearly marked and far too rare, this is a horror game with a chase mechanic, they should be popping up and harassing you all over the place.

I didn't think Dying Light 1's story was boring. It was interesting because Kyle was continuously put in situations where the GRE persuaded him to go against his morals to progress their own secret agenda under the guise of saving people. All the while he makes friends with people inside Harran who he comes to respect more than his employers. Way more interesting than Aiden's bargain-bin dumpster-fire amnesia plotline. (A game that makes amnesia interesting? We Happy Few.) Also Jade was 5 times more interesting than Lawan. Helped that she didn't swear like an attention-seeking twelve year old. Also Brecken the parkour instructor was way more interesting than Frank. He was clearly out of his depth, too injured to run, forced to rely on Kyle, only for it to blow up in his face and cause several children to die. I really felt bad for him. Whereas Frank is an enabled alcoholic who wants everyone to give up and join him in liver-poisoning. I was happy he died because it meant one less source of cringe cussing.
