The Dr is right when she says that immediately, when the patient is approved and no longer has the suffering in front of them, they forget about dyeing/suffering and truly begin to live. I think most people don't understand that people only want the choice to completely stop their suffering. Many times, even when people are approved, it gives them enough piece of mind that they never actually use the option but at all times they know it's there. RIP Will.

This is exactly true. And I think the pure relief patients feel upon knowing they now have this option validates their choice, not only to themselves, but the world.

Hopefully Florida with give ppl the same right to end their lives on their terms,it's their life, there suffering and I watched my brother die of cancer and so many others as I worked in the nursing field for 28 year......Let these ppl and all terminal patients choose their way out!! This is a beautiful story, letting us choose our way to go out of this world instead of being shackled to a horrificly painful disease is how it should be, our choice. For those to quickly bash someone that is dead, shame on you. Hopefully you will never have to go through the pain that this man clearly had went through and if you do I hope others can still find the courage to show kindness even though you are clearly lacking it. Beautiful story, thanks for sharing a piece of his story.

Please turn to Jesus He loves you very much, i was ill for many years but the doctors couldn't really help me, i don't blame them, there was only so much that they could of done for me, Then Jesus gave me a miracle and healed me, He is the God of miracles, There is Hope in Jesus, God has done amazing things in my life and in the life's of people i know, He can do the same for you and yours, When you need Him call on Him, He is the God of comfort and will there for you when you call on Him, The bible tells us in Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, God saved someone i love from an illness leading to death, There is nothing impossible to God, It's as simple as asking Jesus into your heart and life to be your personal Lord and Saviour, confess your sins to Jesus, and Jesus will for give you, If you truly seek Him, Jesus will answer you, i know this because He answered me when i called out to Him,

My father just left yesterday. 2 weeks after diagnosis. It spread to his lungs and he opted to not do chemotherapy. He was suffering enough and wanted to go on his own terms. I was able to be with him in his final hours and tell him that I loved him, I am proud of him, he is brave, overcame so many obstacles, I hope you are proud of me and one day.....we will be re-united. Shortly after, he passed peacefully. This has taught me alot.....do not take life for granted, embrace your loved ones, tomorrow is not guaranteed, whatever riffs you have with loved ones....squash it, the status and materialistic stuff does not matter, be fearless and look to god and just live your life to the fullest with no regrets. Some people say that taking your life is a cop out and it shows weakness. Quite the contrary its brave courageous and considerate for not putting your loved ones through the pain of seeing you in pain. This also applies to those who have terminal mental illness which is also unbearable pain. Wouldn't you rather know your loved one died with dignity and surrounded by people who love and support them than getting that inevitable phone call that they have passed away alone from suicide which is not an peaceful or pleasant way to die. Noone should have to live in unbearable physical or mental pain. If treatment doesn't work then yes you have the right to decide when where and how. The laws need to change and the awareness and education needs to happen.

What an amazing story. As an American, I only wish MaID were more widely available. Will was so generous for sharing his story with the world. It’s amazing that all we know is to live. The body will fight to stay alive no matter what we want. So, even if a person poisons himself it will be a struggle to die. It’s an overdose. It’s sad but it’s the way it is. Christ died on the Cross and he was in agony but he prayed for us.. We too need to carry our cross and offer our suffering up for the sins of others. Death is a natural part of life, but, committing suicide is not natural. The Commandment is Thou shall not kill.. it does not change. People are saying now that depression is irreversible and can’t change.. People need to change their mind on this. The Gates of Hell is open wide.. This assisted suicide is irreversible...Sad..

@@elainekomara8555 It's sad that you choose to adore such a hard hearted God who would launch a person, who has chosen to die under his own terms, into the flames of hell. He certainly wouldn't be the unforgiving monster you pray to.

I have also learned that no matter how hard these well meaning Christians try, they will never know how truly merciful God is and in that moment only God knows what happens to their soul. I wish that my Mum + my gramps could have gone this way. I appreciate the families that allow their stories to be shared. I feel like it makes it easier to digest the facts. After watching my gramps suffer for years (probably close to 15 years) having had been in ICU for months after falling ill - the local hospital basically told us that he was fine and had a sinus infection…. Even though he’d fallen into a coma-like state. He was finally transferred to a great hospital. Originally the hospital said that they couldn’t ask for an ambulance to transfer him for a simple sinus infection -however there was a helicopter that had just lifeflighted a 4wheeler accident victim to the hospital. The victim didn’t make it tho. And thank goodness for my grams *slightly* elevated voice the 2 flying nurses heard her saying he was going to die -- they looked in on him and I thought the ER dr was going to get smacked when he said to the flight nurses that gramps was just fat and had a sinus infection. They saved him. They actually called a few other staff in to get him ready to fly and they went out to clean/ready to helicopter to fly him to the better hospital. My gramps was over there for close to 4 months. He had 3 brain surgeries- they kinda had to scrub/wash him brain. Like literally. I wish I could remember what it was called. Somehow the lining (cartilage, bone, I’m not sure exactly what) between his sinuses and brain had been broken/ripped. They were kinda right - he did have a sinus infection but they failed to see that his cerebral fluid was infected too. My gramps survived that. Live a good (but hard) life after that for another 10ish years when he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He declined treatment. He died in the hospital several weeks after that. He suffered so badly the last week. He hadn’t been able to swallow at all for the last 17 days. Thank you for sharing your story. ❣️

When I was diagnosed in Nov 2018 I was in terrible pain in my Femurs, PET scan showed the cancer had got right into the Marrow and nearly every bone in my skeleton was affected. My last 3 treatments have failed, I'm on my second round of Chemo, initially it looked positive but the 4th session the numbers started going in the wrong direction and pain has started to increase, the fatigue is the hardest, being an active sportsman and now I can hardly handle the stairs, that seems to bring me down more than anything. I'm considering a trip to Switzerland for assisted suicide so I can go on my own terms but hardest part is leaving my boys 12 and 11 year old's, I feel I'm letting them down.

He passed, I hope it was a peaceful death. I see a lot of comments about Doctors in the US not wanting to perform assisted suicide. My feeling is it goes against everything they are taught. They are taught to keep the patient alive, relieve pain, fix wounds and of course do no harm. Is there a greater harm than killing a patient? I believe in assisted suicide, however, from a physician stand point, they must DO NO HARM! I am sure they are quite torn.

I feel governments should merge together to allow people who worked all their life and paid taxes into the system. Their given right to choose when to die , when they are poorly suffering and have had enough of sickness , suffering and the grind. They contact their GP and ask for to be given access to genuine Nembutal pills. Go home and their GP administers it, its regulated and done all above board. This would rule out having to pay huge fees to travel to Sweeden Assisted suicide.

This all is noble and if kept that way I too will participate, I will die alone and i know that. LIVING is the short part of LIFE, most Pagans know that but at one's own time,..., not the government's. I hope this does not turn into a weeding out process that society makes into a process and not a ritual.

Amen. Yes mam that what people know day do. They don't think about there soul and what Jesus has for them they want the suffering to stop. But what if for making this choice when u get to be i. Front of him. He sends you to a place that is worst. Cause when u end your life is not him taking that soul from earth is you with your own will. It doesn't work that way. Remember that suffering here is for a purpose in Gods eyes.

Death is such a fascinating part of life. Every night we sleep we’re essentially consciously dead. With death I assume your never conscious again.

It is very interesting. However, I must point out that the brain, while asleep, is not 'consciously dead'. While in REM sleep, our brain have TONS of activity, similar to activity seen in wakefulness.

@@hyperu2 Although I agree (end-of-life care accounts for a significant proportion of healthcare expenditures) you can't even imagine the legal implications of making it compulsory. Where's the cut off? How does the timeline work? What if someone wants to live hard enough that they don't care? It's logistically impossible let alone like immensely morally dangerous; it's a slippery slope to go down. We don't need to go down that route. Instead, we need to change the philosophy of death and dying. We need to change peoples perceptions of medical care and it's limits. It's a serious discussion to have. One that's even more serious when it's YOUR life or YOUR loved one. Instead; expand access to medical assistance in dying, change public perception around dying as a natural part of life, and empower people by explaining the limits of what medical care can do. Compulsory? No fucking way.

People have to find out they are dying before they start to live. Something wrong there. I don't support this. People say. God would not want anyone to suffer. I beg to differ. Read the story of Jobe. He was rewarded 100 times over. When the suffering ended. It's just not right

It is hard to read these comments.. most people think this is ok .. For whatever reason.. I personally think this is no different than suicide except it is assisted.. And I’m saying this from the perspective of a person that has suffered all my life with a life threatening illness and had to go and still have to ,for numerous life saving procedures It is assisted suicide and no Matter how you package it , it is just that.. you are killing your self enlisting the help of a doctor, nurse and or medical aid.. However horrible and horrific this sounds , it is just that.. I would never take my life in my hands and do away with it for anything .. you only have one life and you make the best you can under the circumstances you have for the card you are dealt with.. I’m not even going to mention religion here , or god or anything.. just as a regular person like everyone else no matter how hard it is going to be, it is suicide.. and it shouldn’t be done… Hope everyone finds what they’ve been searching for here and after.. But please don’t end your life in any way shape or form.. it is ethically wrong and it is just that.. Enjoy
