Pogačar was upset with himself. He took his emotions out on Van Baarle, but Tadej will know that finish wasn't his best work.
@paulwalker6153

@M A Because he pretty much says so in a statement aferwards: "In the moments immediately following the race, I was not happy, because I was not able to make the sprint as I was closed, but I know well that in cycling this can happen: sometimes you have a clear path, other times you do not find the necessary space," Pogačar said in the team's statement. "I wasn’t mad at anyone, I was just frustrated with myself.

@@paulwalker6153 He was 100% upset at VanBaarle, considering he was screaming "F**K YOU" repeatedly at him. That's not being mad at yourself, that's acting like an entitled brat. Hopefully he learns to play his cards better in 2-up sprints, and also learns how to control his emotions and take a loss like a real sportsman.

@@ktakashismith It was classic anger displacement. Shout at someone else, because you can't shout at yourself. Coincidentally, something an entitled brat probably would do.

Tadej learned a lesson for sure. He was never going to win that sprint. Had his chance for the win on the final climbs and couldn't get it done. Should have just ridden in for an assured podium but outsmarted himself.

@@svenh1836 yes, what we don't know now is if he had executed an Asgreen style sprint if it was possible to beat MVDP.. having said that, i think also MVDP learned a lot from last year too, had fuelled more appropriately, had also chosen when to make accelerations more smartly this year, and was fresher at the final than in 2021. Pogacar on that 2nd Kwaremont moving from G3 through G2 to the head of the race was spectacular... he definitely has enough to win this race in the future. What's maybe even more exciting is that he enjoyed it.. so this doesn't feel like just an experiment to prep for a Tour with a cobbled stage... but actually something he could target specifically in future.

Good for van Baarle. I get so tired of the "strongest man wins" stuff post-race. When will people realize that you race not only with your legs but also your brains? If the "strongest guy" makes a mistake or another guy out wits him, that's part of racing and makes it exciting. Otherwise, they could just do a threshold test on trainers and not even have to run the race.
