Three things went wrong for Melo’s time with the Knicks. 1. He forced the Nuggets to trade him at the deadline so the Knicks had to give up a bunch of assets to get him when he could’ve signed with New York in the offseason and play with all those assets they had surrendered to Denver 2. He couldn’t get along with Jeremy Lin. If he had a smaller ego, I genuinely believe they could’ve became a competitive team for a couple seasons 3. He signed a giant contract with the Knicks which handicapped the Knicks’ spending power

I really hated the trade for Carmelo Anthony from Denver. Management and partly the fans (Who chanted "We want Melo") were too impatient with what we had. I really liked the lineup of Gallinari, Wilson Chandler and Raymond Felton. We gave up way too much just to have an early first round exit from the playoffs that year. Knicks could have gotten him for nothing if they waited.

Narr... Carmelo Anthony was very much part of the problem. He wanted talents around him, but he also wants to be numero uno and refuse to share any limelight with any other players. And Melo unwilling to play the triangle offense system, he is part of the reason why the triangle system failed with his off timing and off positioning in the system.

@@17thN.O lol The conspiracy's y'all come up with against black people over nothing are insane. Melo always sought out Lin on the court to try and build chemistry and help Lin continue to shine. And it was working until Lin went down with injury. After that, Lin tested restricted FA and wound up on Houston with Harden who was already largely playing the pg position at an MVP level. Lin got pushed to the side and his career never recovered.

Also about Melo being jealous of Lin Amare who is also black said that he was so if it's a conspiracy that Amare came up with it. It's on the internet do your research. Unless you know more about it than a player on the team which you might. I don't know. People be trippin.

Melo had the right to want to be "numero uno" as he was one of the NBAs BEST scorers at the time and already a superstar. The triangle offense would not have worked at the time when Phil was president (Please stop with that narrative lol). Especially not with the team we had and where the fast paced NBA was going at the time. It was a waste of time, and then to bring in 2 coaches in Fisher and Hornacek who NEVER ran the triangle in their coaching careers to just throw them in with minimal triangle training and say "well...make it work" was a failure.

@@hoody_yt So what if Lin never reached the peak of Linsanity again? You have to consider expectations. Jeremy Lin was a nobody who was on the verge of being cut from the team. The fact that he was even able to give us Linsanity is a heartwarming success story. NY had high expectations for Melo who was drafted third in 2003 and built a strong team around him with the expectation of deep playoff runs or perhaps even a championship. Washington wasted Wall's prime, healthy years. Never got a backup PG that would remain with the team for more than a season (until they got Ish). Didn't have a G League affiliate, until 2018ish, and didn't value draft picks all that much, trading away 1st and 2nd rounders like hot potatoes (Gortat was a great addition though). And, they completely flipped their identity, going from defense first, to offense with defense optional (more like nonexistent). The sad part is that Wall, in a few exit interviews, mentioned that the front office should add a lob threat and/or a stretch big, to likely make his job easier and really mix things up on offense, but they never did it. Nor did they add any defenders after Ariza left, leaving Wall as the team's best defensive option.

Melo wouldn't win for the simple fact that the only thing he brought to the table was inefficient offense. He jacked up a ton of shot attempts and has a career eFG of 48.5%, which is almost Westbrickian (46.8%). Compare that to Lebron (54.5%), KD (54.6%), Kawhi (54.7%) or Steph (58.1%) and it's clear to see how Carmelo hurts his team for individual stats (this is the list of championship winning players). Then add his disinterest in the defensive side and you see a recipe for disaster. He's a stat padder the same way Westbrook is, a lot of numbers in a particular category at the expense of team wins.

@@CCEkeke I agree with part of that assessment. But while I don’t think he peaked in college - as he did have some great stat-padded seasons besides his deepest run in 2008-09, he definitely had a ceiling on how he wanted to play and that inflexibility was what made me often the lone Knicks fan dreading his arrival. All he did was jump shots - passing, defense and leadership wasn’t his thing. No team could win championships when their top player doesn’t want to play team ball; Melo HAD to be the guy, but didn’t want to adjust his style of play for anyone & every team he’s been on suffered ever since he left Syracuse.

He just does not have the ability to play basketball as a team sport. You could see that back in his Nuggets days. He runs up the floor on offense and stands on one spot waiting to get the ball. he never participated in running plays, he literally stands waiting for someone to give him the ball then he shoots it. He has never played defense. You can almost see what possessions he will shoot and which times he decided he will just pass and stand like a statue till its time to go back on D. That and when he was in his prime he destroyed those nuggets teams by stopping all ball movement on offense and dribbling for half an hour then shooting it with a second left on the shot clock.

Imagine if Knicks and Carmelo just waited a couple more months. Then Carmelo could have just signed with the Knicks during the off-season rather than gutting their whole roster of talent and depth.

I’m not die hard Knicks fan, but I still want to see the Knicks have success and fun. Hopefully, one day, there will be consistent accomplishments, winning, and excitement for the Knickerbocker’s. If you have any takes on the subject, please share.

Carmelos plans were to never bring a championship for the Knicks.... His plans were to -Get a much Larger contract -Move to a bigger market for his expensive lifestyle -To be in the Spotlight aka (run off any other potential star including Jeremy Lin) Who actually predicted he wanted to win when he was UnCoachable. The guy ran off GEORGE KARL

Ppl forget he was traded wit Chauncey so it would’ve been a big 3 but him and stat fell to injuries before they could get chemistry. Ur not beating the heat let alone the Spurs wit jr smith or chandler as ur second best player

One of theee all time big game big shot chokkers in nba history...and always that smile when he'd brick the final shot for the loss, the same exact smile that another all time chokker had when he missed the final shot and the knicks lost who famously quoted after the finger roll of riley' exit to miami ,"we were the better team". And to carry on the knick tradition of big game big shot chokkers is no handle randle..and he even has the same smile... 1972...

Cool video! But I do wish u delved more into Anthony’s relationship to Lin. That seems to be a bigger deal. If what happened is true then Carmela bares a larger responsibility for the failure, not just for the knicks but also Lin’s career

Carmelo is like AI, they need to build a team around him. Bring players that fit into their roles as defenders and let Melo score, like the 2014 team which won 54 games. Either two-way players like Kawhi or players who do everything offensively like Harden are the ones that carry teams, and that's not Melo. I think he could have done more as a player but for some reason, he never bought into the team style of play and focused more on scoring lighting up the stat sheet. As a Knick fan, I was pretty disappointed how one-dimensional he was.

You made good points but Harden was one dimensional too so that defeats your argument. Melo had 4 coaches during his 7 years lol and never a consistent team with good players. When he did the were competing with heat all season and finish 2nd.

@@loicy.4004 I made a point about Harden that even though he is one dimensional offensively, he still does a good job passing the ball and getting his teammates involved, especially his last 3 seasons, he has become an excellent passer. Whereas Melo was all iso and he wasn't making his teammates any better, BC he was not passing the ball in the elbow.

It's more like the organization was working to build around Melo and keep Melo happy for 7 years but his overall ball dominant play style couldn't capitalize the team's success. You got coaches like D'Antoni's motion plays that increase pace and transitions (leads to more possessions), to Phil's half court plays for players like Carmelo. To sum up, he didn't want to evolve into a better player for the team

I love how when talking about players these days. Always focus on offensive capabilities. But never show defensive capabilities and say the team failed these player. Well in basketball you have to play both sides and Anthony was never a great defensive player
