Just made my shims models soooo much easier to manage! Had no idea that there were string formatting capabilities. With a linked spreadsheet, you can also include formulas in the mix so for example, the text only ever gets so big or formatting changes based on other parameters.

Ah great to hear you made use of it already :) :). Nice idea with the spreadsheet! :) :)

Oh, if only I had this video a couple of weeks ago! I struggled to do this sort of thing, although eventually succeeded after reading various forum posts and other material (it took me three separate sessions to get it). I used a spreadsheet (as another commenter mentions), which also allowed me to put a maximum size on the text. Although you can do a lot of things in FreeCad, it's often very unclear _how_ to achieve those things. It shouldn't be that hard.

Ah what a shame, normally I have a habit of just releasing a video and viewers jump in and say 'you must of read my mind! I only just started thinking about how to do this yesterday!'. My Spidey senses must of checkout early for Christmas lol. Glad you got it resolved though. I know what you mean regarding about things being unclear. I just spent two days on and off trying to figure out how to use a newer operation with virtually no documentation. Got there in the end so I better make a video on it to save other people going through the same pain. Have a great festive break.

@@MangoJellySolutions You may be interested in part of my problem and solution. I was printing blocks of different sizes (different in one dimension only), and putting text on two sides, one being the side where the size could be different. I couldn't put text on that side when it was very small, so I also wanted to not have that text in such cases. I found (from looking online) that if you go to the Data tab of the pocket and 'show hidden' properties, then right-click on the 'visibility' property you could create an expression for that (which I linked to the spreadsheet where there was a formula for that).

@@MangoJellySolutions I'm working on woodworking jig - it is round corner jig with different radius on fillets. Now using variable I can change the radius very esaly. I will upload my models on MakerWorld so the people will be able to change radius according they're wishes. I use Free CAD for my hobby woodworking shop. Thank you again for your tutorials!

hello MangoJelly :) I've seen you're making boxes for electronic PCBs. Hier is a tip for new video. KiCAD allows to expert PCB as step file and FreeCAD can import that step file. That way you can easily make PCB box. Cheers :)

A weakness of FC as it is missing a strajght forward method of embossing text, a common CAD requirement implemented in many other CAD packages.

Has anyone else experienced issues with padding a shapestring, then going back and editing it, and then having only the first character show up in the pad?
@superdau8 күн бұрын
Have you tried that with different fonts? The font might be missing the characters you are using or has glyphs made out of multiple wires instead of a single outline. These are usually my main issues with a shapestring.
