It's possible to do something approaching dynamic/speed work without accommodating resistance and without doing a conjugate training program. Simply every time you do a lift, be it squat, deadlift, or press, try and do the movement as explosively as possible, while maintaining form, and attempt to accelerate the bar as much as you can on every rep. Specially on your warm up sets when the load is lower. This will greatly assist in building up your numbers without even changing your programming.

I believe Wendler is alluding to plyometrics(which is indeed dynamic) and utilized appropriately certainly has merit."Neural priming" it can be deemed as well.Rippletoe is speaking of(and the question was regarding) classic "Westside" speed/dynamic work..Such as 8 sets 3 with 50-60%(typically) on the bench etc.A bit as the mighty Led Zepplin would refer to this as a bit communication breakdown.Or in this case more an interpretation breakdown

A small amount of jumps added a lot to my power. Speed work with less than 50% made a huge difference too. When I used to push them too hard, they didn't work.

I agree with Jim. Gotta train ability to absorb force as well as producing it.

Today I learned. If you squat 400lbs you are still a novice.

If you step into a weight room and squat 400 first attempt, yes. If you weigh 130 pounds and have been lifting for 6 years to hit 405 you are not a novice
@naiustheyetti
@naiustheyetti 3 жыл бұрын
@@tibbzstrength5831 well there is the point right there, it shouldn't take you 6 years to get from 130lb and whatever that squat is to a 4 plate squat. that is just being inefficient in the gym and ignoring the program, while still being a novice.

So much tension between the two. Wow. My deadlift flew from 570-590lb in months from heaps of speed squats with bands and jumps
@shoeyxc
@shoeyxc 4 жыл бұрын
It probably wasn't the bands and dynamic work specifically, but the fact it was a new stimulus to which your body had not adapted yet.

The only thing Mark and Louie have in common is a barbell. Their training methodoligy is vastly different. Mark trains regular folks, Louie trains elite lifters. A novice lifter who can barely squat his bw with proper form won’t learn anything by using chains. Explosive training works, but you don’t necessarily fancy equipment for that, plyometrics (as Wenders mentions) works perfectly fine. In closer: if you’re a novice - learn to lift with proper technique. When you get more experienced (and stronger) - feel free to do what ever you want.

I don't know man, I'm intermediate and I've found that doing explosive jumps before squatting helps me feel the movement in my hips and get that weight up more quickly.
@Italianslugger
@Italianslugger 6 жыл бұрын
Rip wasn't arguing against that. Jumps do transfer over to squats. He was arguing against the usage of bands/ chains, which Jim admitted he only did to add spice to the workout. Bands/ chains do have some uses but they're not essential or offer any sort of substantial benefit for compound lifts. For compound lifts they simply change the strength curve.

Hey guys great video. Thanks for sharing. Watched it twice just to let the information sink in . great discussion topics. I have a question if you have the time?. I'm a novice lifter. Do you believe listing over a long. long. Of Time, bodybuilding or power with correct form will be beneficial in the long run. And what I mean is, will be better off working out now and throughout my rest of my life until I get older .will be in better shape then somebody who doesn't work out and put their body through such routine daily. Thanks for your time

@@sven-sandershestakov5201 Power cleans are plyometric lol. Unlike Plyo movements you can also actually track progress. The whole point of the power clean in The Program is to assist your deadlift.
