I think this inspired the idea of future game Guan Du batltes when you play as Liu Bei and have Yuan Shao and Cao Cao suddenly fully target him when he escapes.

Guan Du is one of my favorite stages of this game (with Jie Ting and Xu Chang), I don't care about who I'll team up, Yuan Shao, Cao Cao or Lu Bu. But when I played this stage on Lu Bu's Musou Mode, OMG I COULDN'T STOP SCREAMING AND LAUGHING. It was really awesome, you can fight with EVERYONE of your enemies and kill them by yourself. I always do this... rush to Bai Ma and Yan Jin, kill everyone so fast, and while the messages are passing on the screen, kill Yuan Shao so he can't join Cao Cao. Even knowing that I have to be so strong to do this, like level 40 or more... that's brilliant 😎😎😎

Sure, this game allows a warrior to kill up to 9999 soldiers per battle, use musou to unleash superhuman moves, plus all sorts of fantastical stuff, but come on, commanders of opposing armies being able to communicate as if they’re right next to each other in 200 A.D. at 5:35? Other games in this franchise has messengers go off screen to get reinforcements no less!

Yeah. In the Wei story in DW4, he will show up at Guandu if you don't do the battle of Xiapi beforehand (I think? I haven't played the game).
