I do really think the open world idea could have worked. It was something new for the series after seven games. I hope Koei Tecmo has sat back and really thought about the future of the series and how they can improve it. With 9, I played it a little bit, went on a holiday and haven't played it since.

@Kyuulo I agree. My first comment shouldn't be taken too seriously. I support the company, I bought the game, despite all the bad reviews. Not a huge fan of it, so I re-bought DW:8XL on steam. Open world wasn't for everyone, I'm glad they're moving on from it. In my opinion Koei Tecmo excels in character design, and costumes. Give us some ways of unlocking some costumes. Also what good are costumes if we cant really show them off to other players? Give us some online feature, idc if its some lame mobile game guild wars. Let me show off my dope characters that i spent hours on.

personally for me, I hope they do add some sort of open world somewhere in the game, not to the degree of 9 (personally quite enjoyed it and Diaochan was so good in it) I think for dw10 I would like several hub areas to allow for things like homes and marketplaces. I loved the cities and was hoping they could have added things like own a farm mini game etc considering many of the hide outs in 9 were on farms areas. Outside of battle, SW SoS did hub areas really well. The Battle definitely need set maps. main game wasn't good with battles, the DLC battles were huge and actually decent.

I will never understand why they did the open world with a mainline title, rather than the Empires spinoffs. An open world Empires title would make so much more sense mechanically, and you would actually have a reason to flesh out and create a detailed southern china because there is no 'story' to follow. Granted, considering their past releases I would doubt in their ability to create an AI capable enough to handle an open world Empires game, but if they could manage it then that would be the place to have an open world.

Battles were shit in this game nearly every location you fought in looked the same. At first Hu Lao Gate was pretty cool, but the game pretty much peaked there. I think the game should follow its standard stage mode for story mode battles. And have a separate exploration mode where you can visit a much smaller open world with the cities/castles in, scenic areas. And perhaps in this mode there are challenges to complete, officers roaming around. And unlockable items to find, perhaps if you climb a difficult mountain and beat an enemy at the top you’d unlock a rare weapon. That I think would make the game more interesting

@coder494 жыл бұрын
They can have a game mode that tells the story of each kingdom like in DW8, which can be semi openworld style if TK feels like retaining this. Then, they can have a separate game mode that allows you to play through individual stories and unlock more cutscenes and character endings like in the older games. I liked the flow of DW8, but it didn't capture the iconic moments of each character like in the older games. The most important thing for me is this cloning shit. They fucked with the combat system in 6 and got criticised, they started cloning movesets in 7 and got criticised, and in 9 you're getting this weird mishmash of both. When I select Ma Chao, I want to think "hey look, I'm playing Ma Chao", not "hey look, I'm playing a spear-type guy". Only having a single EX move per character isn't good enough. Just give officers their individuality and stop with this fucking weapon and moveset sharing. Even in the older games when some weapons are largely similar, they still had personalities of their own that made them play differently. Being able to have a signature weapon and moveset attached to each character is like a staple for the series, and I don't know why they keep fucking around with that.

ya know this video is quiet literally takes me back to 2018 where i'm playing it for about a month and its the worst burntout that i have in many years, with that being said i think dw9 should be more than fitting to describe what happens when companies just wanted to chase trends grabs all the attention they need to make the paper, i mean i get it lots of fans want the series to go into a another direction but it takes time. when devs tried to implement multiple new ideas all at once, things won't go very well. if these people that you mentioned, going with the lines of '"progession" they should encourage devs to explore or should i say invent something for the musou formula, one step at a time, before going full blown open world musou i know that koei have tried cool ideas in various different adaptations, however open world explorations were never been a part of it, sadly that's the unfortunate truth. by the way gravyman i don't know if you've heard this, hisashi koinuma is currently the coo of KT. i don't know if this is for the better or worse lol i just want to take it with a grain of salt at this point hehe 😏😁

i felt they should of kept it to exploring the towns in DW7 or the camps before you fight. prehaps if people want to collect ingredients and fish and such they could make it so land owned by your faction you may visit the battlefields (or like mentioned if you delved deeper into enemy lands prehaps you will enounter resistance instead of them being friendly) and use that to collect ingredients, fish, hunt, get ambushed by enemy officers/bandits and such. you can have more tasks to do without having it a open world even using the old mechanics of DW . then add a few key locations like zhuge liangs house in the case of the 3 visits and such. such a system could even work with a empire system where theres an option to participate in the usual text approches like training troops putting you in a small instance where you fight your troops or getting lumber could be wandering around cutting trees while the enviroment like bandits and animals may attack you. like take the gate surely with the old system you can link battlefields with paths to towns/ other battlefields to create a map of stages that in a free roam (not in a story mission) you can walk from/to with gates but always having a option to fast travel to a town if you visited it. with story missions you are auto taken to the camp/keep or such

I am very happy they are ditching the Open World formula. I don't think it suits a series like DW at all. Maybe if it were a spin-off game of sorts it would have felt less.... out of touch? Less concerning for the future of the series? The whole game just felt unfinished, and while I don't attribute that solely to the Open World, I do think that it was one of the biggest detracting features of the game. The Open World was just so jarring and out of place to me back when I tried the game. It's like you say, the worst parts in the series are running from one point to the next, and this whole game was mostly based around that. The world wasn't interesting to explore, wasn't pretty to look at, and felt really barren. I enjoy exploring in some open world games, but when your world is built like this or AC Origins, I just... don't want to play the damn game. I don't want to hold forward on a stick or W for an absurd amount of time. Yeah you got a fast travel system too, but I always say if an open world game is encouraging you to fast travel, then it's kind of failing at making a case for the world you're supposed to be playing in. Hack and Slash games I think just work best with an instant action formula where you can jump straight into a battle. I still play DW8XL on my Switch, Sengoku Basara 4 Sumeragi, and Orochi 3U on my PS4, because its just fun being able to jump in and pick up my favourite characters and grind out some stages for weapon elements and such. I found aspects of 9's combat to be interesting, but the Open World formula kind of made it difficult (at least for me) to find mobs of enemies to test stuff out on (maybe I was looking in the wrong areas???) I'd actually like to see what DW could look like if you took the combat systems of 8, and 9, and put them together. If you got a solid combat system, a colourful cast of well thought out characters, and some interesting systems to sink your teeth into, then I think that makes for a good base in these kinds of games. Hopefully the series will look better moving forward, but I being as cynical as I am... will watch from afar with a great deal of caution. Sorry for the wall of text.... I just always feel the need to splurge my thoughts into a few paragraphs whenever I get thinking. I could probably keep going, but I shall stop before this gets further out of hand.

I liked the open world idea. It was done very very poorly (probably low budget issues), but I easily see the potential in it. It's just going to require a lot more work and probably a rebranding since it would change the gameplay quite a bit. Think of castle raids and sieges. That would be the main point. Slowly but surely gaining over land until you get to the big castles where they would require deep strategy and proper preparation just to get into and then conquer. It would deviate from just hacking and slashing all the time which is why rebranding might've been a better choice. Land control would play a major part on how you conquer. That would require a balance where if you rush, you'll truly feel weak and powerless. That stupid grappling hook, although I bet it was needed in case you got trapped by a glitch or a bug, made sieges easy, tedious and just plain dumb. No dumb side quests. Have every quest be a meaningful battle towards the eventual big battle of the chapter. Show how every battle impacts the whole picture. Require players to conquer land as they inch ever closer to their destinations. More detailed open world. Every castle is unique. Every stronghold is unique. Don't scale down anything. Add a lot more verticality. DW9 felt too flat. Those puny strongholds in DW9 were a complete joke. All in all, it would probably need a budget that might not be profitable unless it's a really big hit. So I doubt it will ever happen. DW is just not THAT popular. It would require for them to step out of their niche fanbase and compete with the big boys of open world.

Can I be honest? I would say that if dw9 had a hypothetical story based on your interactions with the world, it would be sooo much better. Why do I say that? Did you ever wondered why so many people have 100% most of ubisoft games(7th gen titles)? Everything matter! Everything change the world, your character, your item, your strength! Not only that but why the fuck would I help my team if I know when they will die, how they will die and where they will die?! Why would I help lui bei if I know he will lose no matter what I do! Even a linear hypothetical story would be better. At least you would wonder what will happen to a certain character. Also if you know that in the end, you MAY win( you will probably have a cheesy good ending knowing omega force), there would be a reason to help allies and talk to the town since the geopolitical situation of china would be different. I found out that I only conquer battle and city when I play wei or jin. Again, because I know that the world is changing and that im gonna have the good ending.

But I don’t blame them for not going open world again as overall the game isn’t the best in the series. I just hope they don’t shy away from experimenting and trying something new in the future because of the bad reputation dw9 got.

rather have it like in stages like DW8,WOU3,WOU4 and more char maybe some more female char cause i think DW8 had 83 but there are more male then female so the can balance the gender playability a bit and make stages longer + the WO that u can have 3 char to switch in battle that can fight alongside you would be a + to. and dont forget Ambition mode i really enjoyed that ^- ^

I hated the Open world aspect of the DW9. Once you unlocked the map you can literally teleport all over the place, really took out the tension and made the game easier than it already is.

Dw2/3 was the best. They ruined every game since.

I don't think open world is inherently bad, just that Koei seems absolutely incompetent at making a good game based around it. Even in the games we have without it, the maps are already barren without much going on in it. Always felt like an afterthought. What I think is the dumbest thing happening with this series is that if you look at the Musou spin-offs, it clearly shows they can do better, but time and time again, they continue to do the exact same thing with Dynasty Warriors. It makes zero sense and Koei's DLC practices, especially with Dynasty Warriors 9 considering the reception it had, is honestly proof that they do not give a damn.

Japanese developers often try to copy the bankable trends from the west but often does a terrible job! The open world setting was a terrible idea, trying to appeal to a broader, streamlined and younger audience (gta, the lord of the rings games, and all those soulless action games that I don't know the name of....)
