SapiaNt0mata I get what your saying, but they've overhauled the attack system to be more fluid. If they gave them their own unique weapons, the game would'nt be released untill thd end of the year or the beginning of next year. They are experimenting like dw6, but on a much bigger scale for the good (fluid attacks and open world rpg) which will benefit future releases where they can all have unique weapons .

FoI2eman 82 i play DW8 on PC with 60++ fps and the combat is very fluid. they just wasted useless time to make the game open world, etc bullshit. a game like DW doesn't work as open world. look that atrocious pop-in in graphics. absolutely atrocious. i don't give a fuck about future releases. the next DW will come in like 3 fucking years and probaly more and i won't play DW9 cause i don't like the clone weapons

I can't believe what Koei does... after DW7th's cloned movesets, DW8:XL was a blessing with offering everyone a unique weapon, Zhang He's claws was so iconical that they dared to change it only 1 time (and it was a bad idea back then). Also, one time they want to make "fantasy" weapons like the flying swords, Xiahou Ba's siege spear, and at the same time they want to be historical with spears and swords etc. only?! With 80 characters at hand they just can't be historical, make everyone unique, don't f*king clones anymore KOEI ...this level of laziness is dissapointing.

I agree 100%. Seeing Zhang He's weapon change killed my excitement for the game. Before that I thought they were just shifting some weapons around, but at that point I was sure they were full blown clones. And He has always been among my favorites along with Jiang Wei. I was excited to see the Qiao sisters with their fans again (so long as the movesets differ). But at this point I have zero intent of purchasing this game.

TheTrainStation Lu Lingqi doesn't use the weapon, so even if it's in the game all characters will do same moveset as Lu Lingqi in DW8 without her EX. To play devil's advocate... DW9 is going open world. That means more than a little change - it means a new engine. It may even mean new tools for design. That poses massive challenges from an engineering perspective, including the addition of day night cycles, new lighting engines, texture streaming technology, npc tracking for sidequests and most likely and pertinent to the problem of cloned movesets - a new animation engine. (To add to the point, I'm pretty sure this is KT's first open world game and to do it with a venerable franchise like DW, they have to ENSURE they don't fuck up like DW6 or risk alienating fans and newcomers alike.) The sheer scale of the game must be a nightmare as well from a QA perspective. You have the huge map, massive npc counts and a humongous playable character count - all potentially with their own animations, physics and hitboxes. Testing that in as many situations as possible to ensure engine stability is probably already an overwhelming task. If there are cloned movesets, this would make the variables KT has to control and stress test easier to manage. Finally, there's the broader principle underlying this game - DW's 20th anniversary is this year, and I'm pretty sure KT wanted the game out before xmas this year (clearly not gonna happen now). And as a good time to try something fresh and take the series in a new direction, this hallmark 20th anniversary must have seemed a great idea to them at the time. Now they have to deliver. The enormity of the task they've undertaken might be hitting KT's confidence and crucially, their wallet. I'm not saying cloned movesets aren't a problem - it does seem like a setback after DW8ELCE - but given the size of the game, I'm happy to accept cloned characters for now. Hopefully the variety of movesets will return in DW10.

The problem I had with the Xbox one version of dw8 empires is that I couldn't find any way to unlock all of the possible bgm's that the game says you can unlock. I also don't know how to unlock all of the costumes for all 83 main characters in the game. All of this is because koei didn't give anyone any indication as to how to unlock anything in the game. They also made Arslan Warriors way too short. I love that game, but they should have waited until at least season 3 of the anime.

My favorite two were Zhang Laio, with his looks, attitude, and weapon. A raging bull. And Jia Xu. A warrior with a chain and sickle. I don't know why they change weapons, and take away assets. I didn't remember hem taking English dubs away, but your right, I remember now. And if I recall, no weapon swap anymore. I don't think this game will replace the greatness of 8.

If they do "share" weapons, they better have different movesets like in DW5. A good number of characters shared weapons, but they all had unique combos that made them diverse. From what I've seen from DW9 with Chang Pu and Guan Yu, the only move they really share is twirl attack commonly used by pole arm wielders.

Im a little late to the, but I'm still alittle skeptical with DW9. DW8 had almost no weapon clones, but for the ones it did, like Yuan Shao and Liu Shan, or Wei Yan and Zhang Fei, they made it work somehow. The movesets didnt feel clone-ish. With this game, there is a pretty overwhelming number of cloned weapons. So it makes me wonder, will they have the same movesets and be similar to DW6? Or will they style it like DW8 and make it not feel like a clone at all? I love the designs though and I'm still waiting to hear the music. I'm also hoping the cutscenes are of the seriousness of DW7. I think my biggest question is though, will this game run like DW8's story? Where you pick an army and go through the battles from a selection of characters? Or will it be DW5 style with EVERY single individual character story? ....or what I fear, will they go DW6's story route? Will they only make a few characters have stories but exclude many others? So many questions and inquiries

Just discovered this channel and I love it. Thanks to your info I decided to not pick up Warriors All Stars as it came out today in the US and your in depth review was an amazing way to inform myself. So, after watching a ton of your vids I decided to pick up SW spirit of sanada, and Orochi 3. I have been playing random Warriors games my whole life but after being dissed by random entries abandoning what worked before and trying new things that utterly fail, it's become a risky endeavor to pick them up, and the lack of knowledgeable info on these games is staggering. tbh they've not really added that many characters per game, all they needed to do was expand and evolve rather than completely and utterly change. Only changing the characters that are severely under powered and downright unplayable in harder difficulties would probably be the best way to go. So there is no excuse for not making them all unique. but i personally never really minded this. But im very salty about warriors games atm, the AI difficulty is the core thing ruining them for me atm. they're idiotic and it breaks immersion/flow so damn much.

The iron fan seemed weird to carry around since there huge and turning them mini didn't help. The pugil sticks probably should have stayed in strikeforce. I stand by the DLC.....it's costumes, it's not the main aspect of the games they sell. Many people for some reason hate it and think it's disgusting a company does it.....but it's literally just extra costumes. Couple of bonus weapons in DW8....why can't they do that. It doesn't affect the main game. it's just a little extra for a cheap price. IF they were charging for DLC which had major parts of the game locked then I would understand but it's not and it's no where close. I can't wait for the costume DLC for DW9.

I am a fan but I do agree with you on a good bit of this. I hated Dynasty Warrior's 6 so much only good thing for me was Gan Ning knives maybe a couple of other things. I loved 8 myself at least by the end everyone had a unique weapon or I should say style but that's me. I was and still am unsure about this open world just because everyone and their mommy are doing open world stuff does not mean they should. When I saw game play and how it did not zoom in when Cao Cao air masu I just shook my head. And then the worst part the weapon change for some of the characters I was a mix of negative feelings I didn't mind the outfit change it felt like the old Dynasty 3. I didn't know that about what you said about China but it makes sense now. I don't remember who said this but after the they where done with dynasty 8 they would not put out another until they find something fitting because Dynasty 8 was not unique enough he said. They have to remember how badly Dynasty 6 was received so why do this again. And what you said about they put out the same thing over and over so what about Call of Duty games just about every sport game and racing and others but I understand your point I don't buy just because they have their name on it I wait for a while on some of their games but Dynasty and Samurai warriors I buy on release but other then them I don't. Sorry for the length so I hope they prove us wrong and it will be great

Personally I was excited for open world, I thought they were willing to take the franchise one step further while spending years and resources to make an actual unique game. I can't deny that there are improvements graphic wise - which high end PC gamers would highly benefit from this. But the new fighting mechanic was sort of underwhelming, you don't have to time your combos with weapon switch and weapon skills anymore since everything seems to be in slow- motion in DW9. So they just dumb down the game and took away the freedom to be creative with our juggles. And if we want to talk realistic, well I believe that the Nunchaku was originated from Hong Kong while the Sanjiegun is an actual Chinese weapon. Also, how the hell could 2 fragile little girls can handle thousands of troops with 2 fans? And Cao Cao could still summon ice arrows out of nowhere like wtf? I could go on all day but then again Koei wouldn't read any of these. And even if they did, it still wouldn't fucking matter because they gonna milk more money from fanboys with DLCs anyway....

are we forgetting the fact that DW8 was praised for decloning every character? even if someone has similar weapons, there are still 80+ characters with unique movesets in that game it's not the fact that clones are intorrelable, but that they are denying all the progress they made in that game. not to mention the fact they removed symbolic weapons for characters who didn't have to be clones in the past the "realism" excuse doesn't make sense, because we are still talking about DW, the game where a single officer swipes thousands of soldiers by himself -_- they either didn't have the time (because to me DW9 looks like a clearly rushed game) or just wanted to sell them separately as DLCs, which they did for some of the weapons, but it would be hard to do for all of the scrapped weapons

unfortunately, they're not placeholders, but the weapons they will have. more than 55 characters have clone weapons, and there will probably surpass 60. there are characters that haven't be released. Zhu Rong, Meng Huo, etc

Let's ignore that theres going to be a huge open world with shit to do and that they are going to put hundreds of enemies on screen in this open world. Nope, instead the clones are here, game is ruined, RIP in Piece Dynasty Warriors, Koei is lazy and whatever other bullshit you guys keep spouting. For the record the excuse they gave us (it's for realisms sake) is dumb considering Zhuge Liang uses a fan that conjures wind as a weapon. But as I said huge open world, hundreds of enemies in that world, explorataion. Sacrifices are going to be made. Everything has been rebuilt specifically for ps4 and xbox one while the other games were on new and old consoles and didn't need to sacrifice anything. Maybe they'll give their weapons back in an update, maybe 10 or 11 will have more unique movesets assuming those games come out. But for now they've changed up the formula so let them sacrifice unique character movesets for now. How about some positivity? No one was removed this time.

The newcomer Xu Sheng shares his Meteor Hammer with Zhang Bao. Xingcai also has the Sword & Shield. Cao Pi keeps his weapon from DW8.

FYI China did not have a complete ban on all video games until 2015, it was game consoles that were banned, in the mainland. However Chinese versions were always available in Hong Kong and Taiwan, so most Chinese players had been getting their copies from there for years. Also I don't think it's fair to suggest they "have no connections to the characters" even if you think there's been very few DW players in China. This is based off a well-known period of Chinese history, to suggest that would be like saying French audiences don't have connection to Joan of Arc from Bladestorm.
