Fred Mendez it’s the way the headers are made, you can get a similar sound with a flat plane crank

The 180 degree headers makes this cross plane V8 sound like a flat plane V8 or two synchronised 4 bangers. Not a sound I like but very interesting.

My buddy did a choppy 180 header on a 302 swapped bmw about 5 years ago. It sounded alot like a coyote engine. This here just sounds like shit, no other way to put it.

what are the Specs, Heads, Cam? I used to race a 289 in an open wheeled modified limited cube class against Chevy 283's. I found my combo to be very competitive (70 351W heads, Holley 650 on a ported torquer intake w/solid tappet 544lift 270 duration cam) I always estimated this would put out about 400hp...looks like I was a little bit conservative. Oh, I used Schoenfeld 180 Degree crossover headers, sounded more like a big block...lol

What are those headers?
@dancancade7101
@dancancade7101 3 жыл бұрын
180 degree headers. The pipes from the two center cylinders of one bank share a collector with the two outer cylinders of the other bank. It creates an even pulse in each collector every 180 degrees of crank rotation vs the usual 90 - 180 - 180 - 90 degrees of crank rotation. Hence the much different sound. These are usually better for power, but won't fit many applications.

I have a1965 Mustang Fastback also, did you make the headers yourself? Your in Finland correct, my brotherhood? Impossible to find 180' headers to fit small block motors here in the US. Curious how they fit. My brother has 70 BOSS engine in his 65 that has crossover 180' headers very tight fit with the big BOSS heads.

These headers are mad in Finland by Otavan Teräsmies Oy. (www.otavanterasmies.fi/kaasunvaihto.htm) These are totally custom made headers for that Ford 289 race engine specifications. The numbers are 450 hp / 7000rpm and 376 ft/lbs / 5300 rpm.

An Fia build does a different job, some of these engines last 50+ hours between a rebuild/freshen up, that's impressive when you consider the power they make out of stock heads/cranks/blocks, they are also on the redline most of that time. Most strokers built for the strip would leave these race tracks in a trash bag after one lap if they were driven that hard.
