Dyno time! Tired 265 HEMI doesn’t like it 😬

Mike takes his tired 265 HEMI to the Dyno before replacing it with a freshly rebuild E49 spec motor.
Murray from Weber Specialties returns after the triple Webers are installed and helps tune the old girl before she goes down the drag strip for possibly the first and/or last time.
Tim and Mike meet for the first time and have a great time learning how much horse power the tired 265 HEMI can get. Follow the VH Valiant Pacer and its progress to E49 status!

My VH Pacer when we bought it in 81 at a Ford dealer in Tamworth NSW had the R/T alloy rocker cover R/T extractors into twin same colour of yours . country car straight clean no rust at all had to fix the driver seat 1 tie rod tyres bit of exhaust work and she was fine factory 4 speed . Not many 4 speeds in 🇦🇺. She still the original carb and chrome air cleaner with 265 Hemi on it . She still pulled strong 💪 I sorted out many brand X in those days . Had a VG Pacer at the time with some nice engine moods both great car. Old school Mopar for life 👌🇦🇺✌️.

Great video Mike. Impressive power output for an old girl. Just watched a well tuned EFI 202 Torana struggle to hit 160. In Queenstown myself building a VG pacer with orig 265 vh pacer engine. Look forward to following your journey!

Yeah he definitely loved it he always talks about how he would take it to the drags and beat the fords off the line but he had the 3 speed so with the lower diff gears they would usually catch him down the line lol and I love yours with the red and black I think I prefer that over the orange I'm also just about to take my car to the drags for the first time I'm a little nervous but I'm very excited to give it a go so I'll be waiting to see how you go down the quarter

I noticed that you have the RT vented drums on the back. I am gathering that your val is fitted with the 3.23:1 sure grip ?
@ValiantPacer
@ValiantPacer Ай бұрын
Sharp eye. Good spotting. I bought them from Australia when I re-did the rear brakes. Not sure about the diff but I do know it did a third gear burn out two nights ago. Hahaha. Sure grip….. had no grip. Hahaha. I will try to find out more about the diff ratio. Just not sure. Cheers
@MrRajsta
@MrRajsta Ай бұрын
@@ValiantPacer the regular ratios on the Val's were 2:92 for the 245s to the 318s. The 360 had the tall 2.77. the pacer and all the E series chargers were fitted with the 3:23 except for the E49 that came out with the 3.50. those drums are a good little add on. I think there is a tag on the diff that should explain what ratio it is. Have you seen Mirabito engines on KZbin? They do CNC heads for the Val's. They even stroked a 265 out to a 320ci. It's is impressive what they achieved from the old hemis

Because you assembled the Valiant on your own assembly line, do you know any from those days? I would like to know if they took better care with rust proofing or just sprayed the paint on parts before assembly. Chrysler AUS sprayed Zinc rich paint on steel section like the sills before welding them together to make a box section structure. I know this because I have cut up heaps of Valiant’s over the years and the spot welds have burned through the zinc. The Pacer is a very underrated car I think mate so please keep up the videos 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🍺💪

@@ValiantPacer I just think that because your assembly lines were maybe more hands on so to speak and you are closer to ocean water they may have covered sections better. I have an Uncle and Aunty in Auckland New Zealand 🇳🇿 and I was there in 1991 for school holidays. It was the first time I left Australia and I had a great time. My Uncle Mark was restoring one of the Auckland ferries that was damaged by fire. It had twin 653 Detroit diesel engines in her and the exhaust exited into the water like a speed boat. I was only 16 at the time and I have never been back but would love to go back as the relatives are very old now. If I only knew back then now much Kiwis like Valiant’s I may have made so longtime friends. I went to the movies with Uncle Mark and watched Terminator 2 awesome 🤩

Well done. I’ve also been mucking around with Hemis for about 35 years. They’re definitely not designed to rev, they sort of start dismantling themselves after about 6500 rpm . The new 12 counterweight crankshafts help a bit, but not that much.
