My Dyson was doing just this, pulsing and not sucking and after cleaning the filter it was still not working so I had a hunt through KZbin and came upon your channel - thank you so much for your clear instructions on how to remove the relevant parts, clean and them put them all back and I am most certainly not a DIYer! It didn't take long and I kept my fingers crossed as I started using the machine again - bingo, its like a new machine, I can't thank you enough. I've even ordered 2 new filters from your recommendations so I never have to wait 24 hours for the filter to dry. I feel so happy that I've managed to do this myself because I really thought the machine was finished!! I'll also be recommending your site to friends - if I can do it then anyone can. Top Man !!

I had the same problem with my Dyson V8. Thank goodness I came across your problem solving video. Not only did I learn to find out why my dyson was pulsing, I learned so much more about my Dyson, and where all the filters are located. I just wanted to thank you for helping me out. I'm not a spring chicken anymore and you explained step by step so us old folks can follow along.

What would have helped me would be, providing a general overview up front, like a clear - visual, outline with words that make sense - that doesn't lead the learner into getting stuck in loops of misunderstanding, because I have a hearing impairment and can't think when I do not clearly comprehend what I am being shown. Not everyone speaks the same learning language and mine is to have a visual roadway, with an understanding of the key, presented to me in the form of a brief where I can engage and seek clarifying questions. Otherwise, I can only learn by reading the broken captions and interpreting within my own frame of reference. I am, however, grateful for the learning opportunity you provided. Thank you!

You are brilliant! I went through numerous videos trying to figure out why my Dyson v8 was pulsing and stopping. Did everything that you and others suggested. Cleaned filters and put back on in 24 hours after dry. Pulled vacuum apart and cleaned every nook and cranny. Still no luck. So per your suggestion I ordered new replacement filters. Coming in 2 days. But just at the end of your video you mentioned the problem could be the the seal of the cannister door flap. I cleaned the rubber gasket even more. Plus I realized that sometimes when I slap the door closed, it is not perfectly flat and sealed to the cannister. Just off the tiniest bit. So when I closed the door more carefully.... guess what? No more pulsing or stopping. That little detail that you mentioned solved my problem. Thank you so much!!!!!

I have the Dyson V 11 animal, and this vacuum has changed my life. I don’t hate vacuuming anymore, I love the cordless and how well it picks up every single thing. Then it stopped sucking although I could hear it was running it was a second. Now I have cleaned it and I will see what happens. There was nothing blocking it but there was a lot of dirt where the bin hooks to the rest of the vacuum. I don’t know what your people are talking about when you say you hate it. This is a fantastic vacuum.

Wow, thanks! I just got the V10 and on the second day started pulsing. I played around with it for awhile and then started watching KZbin videos. I followed your instructions and found a small piece of tile along with some soft plastic completely blocking just above the vacuum head. Cleared it all out and my vacuum is working again. Learned far more from this video that from the instruction papers that came with the machine. Thank you so much!

I have a Dyson DC44 Animal cordless since 2013. I use it for steps, bathrooms and quick pickups. I make sure I empty after every use. It works fine. I also had a purple upright. Can’t remember model, that was a tank. It picked up and never a problem. Wife dropped it down stairs. She rarely vacuums and dropped it. Jeez. Thought I’d get a Shark Apex. It is a great machine with loads of attachments, but it never cleaned like my Dyson. Now I got a v15. It is amazing. It’s picking up pet hair that my Shark never could, and only in two passes. I love it. Learn your Dyson. Keep it clean and filter clean. It will serve you well.

Very Helpful video. I have a V7 and a V8. The V7 has been having the pulsing problem for nearly 2 years. I always take the filter out and clean it and it works again without pulsing for 10 minutes then back to pulsing. The filter is always packed with dust. I typically tap it the sink and get lots of dry dust out. Every so often I also wash it. But the pulsing issue returns shortly thereafter. I finally took one extra step: I took the sealed cyclone unit off and washed it under running water through all the internal (invisible) paths both through the holes around the top and through the bottom. The amount of dirt that came out was incredible including big chunks of mud. Black water came out for at least 15 minutes and the water wasn't clear until I had washed it for at least 30 minutes. Apparently there was so much build-up inside the cyclones that they stopped working efficiently and the dust went straight through and into the filter causing it to clog very fast. After this "super-cleaning" it works like when it was new!

A V7 and V8 filter should almost never accumulate dust on the removable filter. It means that either the internal cyclones are clogged with caked on dirt OR you are overfilling the bin and large debris is entering the fine cyclones and then making their way to the filter. The solution is to always empty the bin regularly and never exceed the fill line on the bin, and you probably will need to full dissassemble the cyclone assembly and clean all the internal parts. Admittedly this takes a while and can be tricky/messy. There are videos on how to do it. At work we remove the cyclone assembly from the motor and then wash the whole cyclone unit in warm water with antimicrobial hand wash and then dry it infront of a powerful fan overnight + compressed air gun, because we don't have time to fully dissasemble, clean, and reassemble the cyclone. Again, the main reason that we need to do that deep cleaning is people overfilling the main bin.

I really like your presentation. It's a clear (and clean) description of what to do. It may have been sufficient to solve the pulsating problem I had. I highly recommend your post to anyone with the pulsating problem However, before I saw your video, I followed another very good presentation that showed how to take apart all the pieces, including the rubber seals, and using special screwdrivers to remove certain parts for a very thorough cleaning. The lady presenter also showed how to put everything back together again. As I hadn't given the Dyson a proper cleaning in the last two years, it may well have been necessary to do what I did. But next time I shall first follow your post, and clean my Dyson more regularly. Many thanks.

So, I just disassembled our Dyson V8 Animal yesterday for its routine cleaning. We have had this model for over a year now and I try to give it a full clean once a month or every other. I did something different on this last cleaning. I removed the filter located at the rear of the vacuum main housing. I washed it thoroughly. As my wife started the machine this morning it was pulsing. I failed to mention that it was pulsing prior to the cleaning yesterday. It was primarily what prompted my cleaning it. Well, whenever I heard it still pulsing, naturally I was stymied as to it's doing so. Pulling up a few Dyspon 8 vacuum DYI checklist tutorials, it was this segment that led me to realise that it was the filter that I mentioned earlier. It was not completely dry from when I washed it yesterday. Thank you for your comprehensive instructions on all Dyson products.

For units with the long slender cone shaped filters, it is important to detach the fabric portion of the filter from the plastic support...as you mentioned...and remove any dirt that has accumulated at the bottom of the filter cage. It can't be removed by simply running the filter under water. Glad you mentioned that the filter should be detached to accomplish this. Whenever my V6 starts to pulsate, this is the reason.

I have a V8. Best vacuum I have ever had. You briefly mention on the back filter. After disassembling, unsnapping the main components, I washed them in the sink. The part with the cone and steel fine perforated screen discharged mud, for many wash cycles. After letting everything dry, the cleaner worked marvelously, EXCEPT for when the back filter was on. As soon as I clipped it on, the surge came back. Taking it off the machine worked as new. The issue is, it blows directly in your face. Washing it did not help. It is sealed, and the outside plastic shields the filter. I took a screwdriver and split the glued join between the outside cap and body. The exposed filter element, under water then again spewed mud. Let it dry, don't worry about the outside shell, just put the filter on and the blast is directed sideways away from your face. The unserviceability of this filter is I suspect a cynical ploy to enslave us to Dyson spare parts. Who would have thunk it?

Got an older V6 animal that has had v little usage. When it pulses your informed to ring Dyson. You do so with them asking about the lights on the battery when it pulses. They put you on hold while they say “I’ll go and check the troubleshooting manual”, they come back on the line after a few minutes and say it’s the battery. And yes, this is the 2nd time in exactly 4 years I’ve owned it. As the first time it was just in warranty so go that one replaced free of charge, this time though they want $120. Save yourself the money and watch this video, it solved my pulsing issue in under 5mins. I’m now going to go dig up the original battery and recheck that now as i never threw that one out. Now i know all the components of the vacuum and got to meet them, I’m more than confident in troubleshooting it next time the pulsing issue returns. Thank you good sir for your video and service to your fellow KZbin community. ❤

Hi Angela, thanks for your comment. I too have the V8 and in the morning, will be checking over my machine for any blockages . I’m just interested to know, was your issue just the filter, and, if you did have a blockage somewhere, where was it please? I’ve checked mine over previously, but I now think that the blockage could be in the section where the hard pipe meets the canister. Now that I know how to completely separate the canister from everything else, I’m going to give it a really good wash and a thorough checking over. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your success and for mentioning that you had a V8, super helpful thanks, Eve 🙂🐿❤️🌈

Thank you!!! I got a Dyson V8 for pets from my bosses, as they noticed it is pulsating and just bought a new one. It smelled horrible, and I got a really tough job to do but still a wonderful vacuum I want to save and use as when it works it works so lovely and it's not loud. I literally kept it in my storage room for a year as I couldn't find time for it, I knew it would be dirty work and mess up my apartment lol. It was used for years in the place with 2 short hair shedding dogs and 2 babies/toddlers, so about the hair and dirt, name it, sticky cheerios, the sore smell of vomit, dairy whatnot was coming from that vacuum. And my bosses long nice thick hair clogged in the brush for the start, together with tons of dogs hair that didn't show until I ran the brush part alone through hot water, and the dust was cemented.... that thing was totally full and about to die!!! Then I started watching these videos and bit by bit I solved the pulsating issue. Oh my there can be many reasons and sometimes they cannot be fixed in a short time or even one day. Took me a few days to go through all of it. Washing the filter takes time to dry and so on. A lot came out of it. The one I got was clogged wherever I opened it, there was cemented dirt everywhere, and I've found and solved at least 5 issues until I got it work with no pulsing, but then it would just go off if I try the powerful mode, so I realized the battery is bad as well, it just stops. It would work for awhile if I use it on low and it does a wonderful job on my fake lamb fur rugs, and in my small place makes miracles. So the issues can be in the brush area, in the main tube, in the dirt container, and for this one, that rubber around the opening of the container, this one had it not sealing at all as it was filled with dirt and the rubber was folded so for sure no pressure of sealing. They tried to put duct tape around to seal it but once I cleaned the rubber using hot water and stretched it with the small flat screwdriver and ran all the dirt through hot water, it sealed and apparently nothing was broken. I thought some plastic part broke but that was not the case. For sure take out the filter on the top, I've found so much dirt and short dog hair in it. I washed all the tubes in the hot water, after I separated them, and all the other parts I could. The only thing I didn't want to open was the part around the motor that has a screw in it so that's my last option. I ordered a replacement battery, will put it to use tomorrow, and if it still loses power I will try that part, cuz I'm sure if cemented dirt could reach somewhere, this vacuum has it This is not the first time I have donated very expensive vacuum people broke. I work in people's homes so often they donate or offer things. Or just want me to dispose of them or recycle them. The year before I got one I didn't bother to fix. Literally, some woman with long thick hair, or the teenager, cut it short at home, and cut the amount of hair to make a wig, and vacuumed it. The vacuum and the brush was so clogged I didn't bother just threw it in the trash.

@@lords-electrical I only spent 40$ for the new battery and some time. The battery was the issue and now it works like new. Now I have a highly functional vacuum that I would never be able to buy for myself. Thank you for the video! It helped! I was considering just put the whole thing in the alley, just pass it on 😅

Watching this with my fingers crossed. We’ve come to rely on this tool for short bursts of use throughout the day to tame cat hair etc. I’ve taken it apart piece by piece and cleaned it thoroughly (no blockages etc). I’m not financially in a position to replace it so I am so hopeful that there is a handy remedy. 🤞

Oh Mercy! I had cleaned the bin and filter, checked the tubes for blockages nothing. You nailed it when you said to see if the passage in the motor part is clogged. A ton of debris completely blocking it. I am letting the filter dry and will recharge overnight. I hope I didn't blow the motor. Thanks for the very easy to follow instructions. I will click on a few ads for you.

I have a v8 animal that I got as a handme down from my mother. It has a pulsing problem. Both filterscare new and clean. When I disassemble the unit to just the motor, it will run on low well enough, but when I switch to high, it runs for 3 seconds and shuts down. Any idea what to do now to get it to work correctly?
@lords-electrical
@lords-electrical 4 ай бұрын
If you have a new filter then it is normally some kind of blockage that would cause the vacuum to pulse. Also just check to make sure the bin is fully closed and not dirty around the edges as this can cause an issue sometimes with pulsing.

I really appreciate this. My hand vac started having issues and pulsing. It's older so I assumed the battery was dying. Then I thought, I should try to take it apart and worst case is I get a new one like I was planning. So I went out to the trashcans and started opening and twisting, cutting things off the roller. The unit itself worked fine but the extension was having issues. Then i discovered you could detach the roller and lo and behold, THERE WAS THE CLOG! pulled out a huge furball (dogs) and lots of bits of other junk. No wonder it was pulsing!

Really helped me prove my point to my wife - thanks! I was able to search for, watch 3 minutes, and solve the issue, and fix everything within a total of about 5 minutes! For reference; there was a Pirate's Booty puff lodged with the little red flapper... But most importantly; I was able to give my wife crap for not making any efforts to fix her brand new $600+ vacuum. Fixed it in the time she was scrolling on TikTok while on the crapper. Thanks!
