This video has restored my faith in humanity. No only did you service the Dyson vacuum cleaner in the holiday home, but also post in online so that I can see how to fix mine (massive blockage in the lower tube due to pet hair). Ibaisaic, I salute you.

Dyson meets Freud. My neighbor put a DC41 out on the curb to throw away. She said it doesn't work, but it's been so long, she doesn't remember exactly what it was doing wrong. As you recline the handle to vacuum carpet, a diverter flap moves from the base of the vacuum wand tube, to the flexible tube leading to the beater bar head. It was in this lower flexible tube leading to the head that I found a brand new Crayola crayon wedged, not quite able to make it around that corner. The crayon caused the diverter flap to not be able to fully engage with the tube leading to the beater bar head. Consequently, there was no suction at the head. I also found all four screws holding the beater bar assembly into the headwear loose, causing the head to make a hellacious racket when spinning. Remove crayon, tighten four screws, and I got myself a nice little Dyson.

A very thorough video, well done! My nephew used my sisters Dyson as a wet dry vac and it seized up and she was going to toss it so I asked her to let me look into fixing it, everything you explained in this video I did and it runs flawless! I am now a self certified Dyson tech, these machines are all plastic that can be easily cleaned if you have the patience to clean and maintain them. She bought a new one thinking it was wasted, and gave me the one I brought back to life....best deal ever!!!

@@ibaisaic I have a Dyson DC25 which worked fine for many yrs until now, it stopped functioning! I decided to clean the filters and inside hoses which i never did before! It started working fine, but came up with a screaming noise when vacuuming. The filters still look new with no major stains and not damaged. l tried removing the filter inside the ball after a YT video experiment and the noise is gone! If i push the filter and keep it tight in with my hand it sounds better! Do you have any suggestions other than buying a new filter? Where is the best place to buy original parts that will last? Thanks for posting this important video.

Hello SeekFacts!! I don’t know if you have gotten an answer to your question, regarding New Original Dyson Filters or not?? But with my limited knowledge on this matter, I’ve become aware that the New Dyson Filters are available for sale at various online Vendors such as Dyson themselves, and also through Amazon and others, who would sell those Filters Brand New through Dyson Online themselves but also through Amazon where you most likely will save Money and Shipping Charges going through Amazon for the Filters!! I’m very confident that this will work out very well for you!! I hope that I’m able to be of some help for you and everything works out smoothly for you!! Sincerely, Ray!!

Thank you for this very instructive video. My conical filter is drying which will take a few days given our cloudy and cool weather. I removed the cleaner head and was appalled at how much crud was caked on and filled in the head of the vacuum and the opening of the vacuum. I can hardly wait to see how much better it will work now that I have given it a thorough cleaning.

My Dyson was not working (not sucking up dirt). I had already taken the filters out and washed them and cleaned what I could see but no luck. So I watched your video. Thanks a lot for showing me how to remove the bottom plate. When removed I found I had sucked up a 2x3" plastic bag and it was blocking everything! I'm a jeweler and I have small jump rings and their containers all over my work shop. I will be much more careful in the future and pay more attention to regular maintenance. Thank you!

Awesome. thank you for sharing your knowledge. I just "inherited" a dc40, and the previous owner said it lost suction. Following your advice I have stripped the machine down, and have cleaned it. the top portion where the cyclones are was plugged with dust and dirt. I tapped it gently on a towel against my sink. WOW. who knew so much could be trapped up there. I am drying all my filters and parts overnight before I reassemble . Hopefully this will do the trick! Thanks so much.

I cannot express how much I appreciate this video. I've been avoiding cleaning my Dyson because it was looking so disgusting. But I had enough and decided to look for a how-to video. I just cleaned my Dyson and I wanted to gag the entire time. I did submerge the cyclone because it was just filthy behind that screen (shroud). I'll wait days before reassembling it and ensure that it's bone-dry. Thanks again for such a detailed video.

I use the spray on my faucet on both end openings of the cyclone, no way I wouldn't as you can cleary seee filth, Dyson must fear that people won't allow it to dry, but since they failed to make it removable from the top, no option. I wait two days & allow it all to dry on my sun porch. I was happy to see that He cleans it as well.

Yes I did the same. I washed out the plastic bin compartment, took off the head and used wipes to clean the plastic shield where u can see the brush bar . I didn't know you foikd wqsh the cyclone part. I put it in bath and omg the dirt that came out if it was filthy big clumps of dirt . Rinsed it out with cold water to get rid of soapy suds and then left to dry for 12 hours . I was same as you didnt think a paint brush would clean it properly or by giving it s few taps to remove inbound dust so it went in the bath

Easy Solution!.... not brave enough to wash or submerge the shroud...so I tapped it to get the dirt out but still a lot trapped behind the purple screen...so I took it outside and sprayed it with my " canned air" for blowing the dust off electronics....it was a safe and cheap solution. I will make a habit of doing it more often so it doesn't build up. wiped it off...looks great.

34:35 the two issues you mention I believe are manufacturer defects. Some might call it wear and tear. I had the same two issues. Ball not rolling that great after the first year, and then the flip from upright to vacuum got very rough. Eventually, something inside the ball broke and it doesnt stay locked side to side when standing upright. Also, the tube underneath that will flip-flop ripped right from the fitting. I also had the large hose break/degrade on me. I also had the roller wear out and start to vibrate a lot because of the wiggle it has now. My DC40 was fantastic for about 1 year. After that, it was downhill. However, I still have it, so I must still like it enough even with all the problems. Or i'm in denial about the cost.

This video helped me strip mine down and find the blockage in the hose under the wheel so it’s a massive thumbs up from me. I can’t help wondering what the thumbs down are for and what exactly has been said or done in this video that people don’t agree with. There are probably many reasons why people thumb down my videos but a thumbs up or a thumbs down makes no difference to KZbin as it is all classed as engagement which helps the video to show higher up in the suggestions, so the thumbs down help me as much as the thumbs up, though obviously thumbs up are nicer. 🙂

I always tend to use the bagged vacuum to clean my bagless Electrolux UltraFlex. But your method is more effective. I actually like to see the dust being picked up and entering the bin in the bagless vacuums. However I prefer the bagged one. My Lux Royal D790 (not Electrulox) currently has a very full fleece bag and it is still sucking like vacuum with the new bag. Also much more cleaner way to change the bag than all the mess involving emptying & cleaning the bagless vac.

I had no choice but to wash the cyclone unit in cool water on mine, it’s an older model but it stank and had so much caked on muck inside. I was careful to leave it to dry for a few days and insure any metal screws were treated with WD40 after. To make sure it was thoroughly dry, I turned it on for a few seconds at a time and checked the filter for moisture before using it properly. It’s squeaky clean now.

I bought myself a spare used cyclone canister for my Dyson DC40, recently from eBay. It is very smelly with pets hair. I removed all the excess dirt first. I managed to take it apart (as shown from another KZbin channel) and all the rubber seals apart. But watch out for the springs when taking the outer mesh piece apart from the cyclone unit. I washed the whole cyclone and canister in a bucket of hot water with laundry non-bio washing liquid. I used the dip in and dip out method in the bucket of hot soapy water to wash and to flush through the cyclone. I used a small brush to clean out nooks and crannies. The amount of dirt build up has cleared away. The long filter, I managed to take the top blue plastic bit apart and managed to push the filter inside out. There's moth of pets hair build up and trapped inside the filter and I managed to wash away the dirt and removed the pets hair. The filter is also smelly therefore I washed it in the basin with hot water with mixed in Bold 2 in 1 liquid (with conditioner to get rid of the smell). After, rinsed them thoroughly with cold water. I personally let it all dry for at least 48 hours. I assembled everything back together and used it on my DC40. I switched it on and it feel like brand new again with the fresh clean fragrance smell from the filter. I only recommend to do this if the cyclone is used for so many years and getting smelly with caked in dirt.

Most people don't maintain their vacuum cleaner and think that you only need to empty the bin or change the bag. Bagless cleaners, especially at the cheap end need a lot of attention to keep them working effectively and most people don't bother. Bagged cleaners, even at the lower end tend to need a lot less maintenance as they stay cleaner inside and have less complicated airpaths. The days are long gone that people would keep a vac for years and get it repaired and serviced, but they used to cost a lot more money back then and people couldn't afford to keep replacing them as they do now.

I love this video and am a bit embarrassed that I have not been regularly cleaning my Dyson although I know how. Who goes on holiday and cleans the vacuum cleaner where they are staying. :P Only a cleanliness fanatic. Own would be very happy though. :) And they will notice how well it is cleaned.
