Worst vacuum ever! I have NEVER had a vacuum to cost so much and require so much maintenance to keep it running. I've owned just about every model and it's always the same insane amount of maintenance. I'm done with Dyson!

Holy crap! I took apart the brush head today because my dyson wasn't moving the brush head at all. I noticed the mechanism was really hard to move so I figured there was hair there. Then I found your video showing how to take it apart, and THANK YOU SO MUCH! I WOULDNT HAVE EVER NOTICED THAT SCREW THERE. There was about 3x the amount of hair as you found in yours. You saved me from buying a new one, I bet at least $100. Thank you so much! Its working like new.

Excellent instructions. I really appreciate that you don't waste people's time with over explaining every little detail. This was easy to follow, and I DID find the little monster tuft under the spinner .. however after I put everything back together it STILL didn't spin very fast (it did spin though). Turns out the main issue was that my dog had torn some cardboard into little shreds that I had vacuumed up prior to this event and I thought I had cleared all the little pieces (the hose and head were clear). And suction seemed "okay". So I took off the hose right at the ball and there is a tiny slot where debris enters the ball that had a few very small pieces of cardboard trapped. Not enough to restrict the air but apparently enough to weaken it to the point that the turbine wouldn't spin very fast. I cleared that out and it runs like new now. Thank you very much for this great video.

Hi Bill! Thanks for taking the time to put this online - and for explaining it so clearly. Even a non-DIYer like me was able to follow it. Tried all three tips, to no avail, before I realised some of the small bristles were folded over on themselves (at the back of the roller, of course) and that was what was preventing the roller from spinning. Snipped these and hey presto! Thanks again 👍

Great job. I purchased a new battery due to the brush not spinning and did not fix the issue. I searched and found this. It was a pain getting the final piece (i had to remove about 7-8 screws) but worth it. This one had twice as much hair behind it than you showed. Saved me having to either purchase the entire head or a new vacuum.

Mine worked fine until I rinsed the head out. I took off the slotted end as you suggested, the inner axle spun no probelm. Brush head was clean, and spun fine - as long as I didn't secure the slotted cap back on fully. Then it would apply a braking effect - stopped everything.

Spot on video, saved me a replacement Dyson head costing £65!, turns out my issue was the hair stuck behind the spindle, in the head, when I tried using the Vac it would spin for a few seconds then stop, but following the step by step guide I was able to dismantle the unit get the spindle out and find a massive wound up piece of hair which was causing the problem, removed that and I cannot believe how good the vacuum is now and as stated in the video unless you remove the spindle you will never know how much hair is behind there, I would say if even you don't have problems but had the machine for a while you should look at the spindle and clear it out to save your motor burning out and improve the performance of the machine.

Thanks Bill, great vid but I had to go a little bit further to solve the same problem. I removed the 3 T9 torx screws on the transmission just above the electric motor and found that the tiny nylon cog on top of the motor was a bit worse for wear (not terrible). I was easily able to flip it over and hey presto, it’s like a new machine! The problems that I was also having with intermittent stop / start issues that I thought were related to the switch suddenly disappeared too! I’m thinking there may be some kind of overload switch that would turn off the unit to prevent damage to the jammed brush motor.

Thank you. I already took the rotating thing appart and do it on a regular basis but this time around it was not working. I took the whole head apart per your instructions and all’s good 😊

Yay it actually worked. I saved on a new vacuum cleaner by only buying screwdrivers and pilers. I have a different model but same concept. Took out the screw in the middle and used the pilers to wiggle out that piece and behind it was sooo much hair. I would have never found that piece without you ! I only have carpet for like a total of 2 square metres in my whole apartment so i couldnt bring myself to buy another vacuum cleaner! Thankyou so much.

Thank you Bill. This was the actual problem with the roller head. You have to take it apart to check. Thank you again!

Brilliant advice and removing the mechanism and getting rid of all the hair has fixed our Dyson V6. Thanks for your video it’s saved a service charge for an engineer to do the same job 👍🏻

Thanks Bill. That last plastic cover to remove before accessing the small motor had me stumped until I saw your video. My DC35 motor head wasn't spinning and I tracked it down to what I thought was a small white stone jammed in the toothed rubber belt drive. Then I found that it was in fact a jammed belt tensioner (the belt drive compartment only being attached by one pin allowing a pivoting action was the clue). A bit of pencil graphite placed into the tensioner inspection hole, a few pushes on the tensioner and she was good as new. Thanks again Bill; a nicely paced, non-condescending, informative video.
