LOL. Nice work my guy🙌 Hear me out… eliminate OEM circuity for the most part- use ur own circuit to send power from bat to the fan with a momentary switch 🤷‍♂️fancy- variable speed trigger prob more work than it’s worth don’t need lights unless you want to mount up a laser diode on the brush to visualize dust….. or an LED on the head so it’s got a work like, just like drills, etc… battery charged separately… As for the o.g. battery, could prolly reset the counter… realistically you may as well just doer just like you did! Bravo, Bravo 👏

Very true. As long as you use an external charger or charging management board specific to the battery you don't need the OEM board. It took a bunch of shady people at Dyson and a good staff of lawyers to make this patent very profitable. Dyson makes big bucks on this confusing, useless feature.

Interesting hack, quite workable. Agree with your concerns of durability. But it can be done.Thanks for the look!

There's a way to activate the battery board with a magnet. There is a hall type switch (the metal cylinder looking component, not sure what it is) If you put a magnet by that and hold the trigger switch until it resets, then there is a sequence of releasing the magnet and switch that will save the activation. You can find the sequence for each model if you search. I found most of the OEM battery cells to be fine.

Interesting! I had cell issues and did not look into it far due to that and use it since then with my M18! Win! I have seen that some reflash the microcontroller. I have not seen that about the hall sensor reset.

Having already WASTED my good money on a knock off with a "5 year" warranty on ebay!!, this is something I had been looking into. I have Dewalt instead of Mil but the process will likely be the same. Good video! For the record; their 5 year warranty is useless as you have not way to contact them, as they keep changing their name and NEVER reply to a request to return the unit. In mho if you want a good battery that is a bolt on ... suck it up and buy the oe, as the knockoffs are garbage.

I have had great luck with my Amazon purchase of the DC35 pack that was a knock off about 1 year ago. I do see many sellers with these now and I am sure some of them will be of poor quality unfortunately. Sorry to hear of your bad experience with the cheaper pack. Best of luck to ya!

Yes, we have been around here all our life. We also visited Savannah 2 months ago for our 25th Anniversary. We were heading to the NC mountains (had planned that all year or even before Covid actually) and that whole week nothing but storms in the forecast every day. The weather was bad from Helen, GA to Pigeon Forge, TN. At the last minute we changed plans and well we are not really beach people anymore so 180⁰ to Savannah, lol.... It was nice there we love river street, walking down the river side and the trolley tour was worth it!

Hello. Thank you for this video. I have the same machine. It would not start so I cleaned it out and when I put the battery back in it started and kept on going. I could not turn it off. The trigger had no effect. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you. Regards Elio
@ThriftyToolShed

If it's like this one then it could be the plunger that the trigger moves to activate the switch on the battery, but other than that it is all in the battery. The trigger simply presses the switch that is built into the pack and that switch activates a mosfet on the BMS board to supply power. Most likely internal to the pack if it's not something jammed up with the trigger or plunger.

No the M18 does not. The DC58 will actually shutdown if the voltage level is below 16.5V or so it seems so I did not add a low cut out protection. If you wanted you could add the 20A cut out board like I showed in a previous video, but it will take up some room though. I am going to run mine without since the DC58 does shutdown, that's why I mentioned that the larger 4 or 5 ah packs ran it better, they did not pull down in voltage as quick while in max output. Thanks for your comment!

@@ThriftyToolShed Thanks for clarifying that one. With some DIY and supermarkets selling affordable 18-20V batteries, I assume that would be the way forward rather than forking out big bucks for a genuine replacement battery.

@@ThriftyToolShed To be honest, I would use a power tool battery rather than buying a knock off from eBay. Pretty much everyone has a power tool of some sort at home so they have a battery or two laying around. Also I read a case where one of those knock offs set itself on fire just a day after it was fitted on the hoover. It could be just one off case of fire but god knows. I would prefer to use a power tool battery because I have a few around. Thanks for making this video. Surely it will help other people.

So I did a very similar Milwaukee mod on my dyson V6 animal, and it DRAINS the 2.0 M18 batteries. Is it supposed to kill batteries that quickly?
@ThriftyToolShed
@ThriftyToolShed 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I thought I mentioned on video that it will drain quickly due to lesser voltage than original Dyson 24V pack. I meant to mention the fact that the 24V Kobalt or the Newer 24V Flex tool packs for example would be even better suited for this application. I mentioned that since I had many large Milwaukee packs I chose to use these anyway. I also tried my best to share that the large 5ah and the 6ah packs run this much longer since the Dyson will shut down at about 16.5V or so on the pack. The smaller 2ah or 2.5 ah probably won't run this on the Max or high output mode much at all. The 5ah and above can indeed. Mine works great around the shop/garage even with the smaller pack with some small clean up jobs. For larger jobs the 5ah or above is a must for me. As stated the 24V packs would be excellent if you already had that platform. I personally don't plan on changing from the M18 platform for my day to day tools any time soon. Hope it helps!

I did mention that a Mosfet maybe better. It's harder than I thought to find a switch in that size with high current rating. I did happen to already have one. The original pack used a Mosfet and a low current switch on the gate of it as well.
