I was hoping for more. I wanted to see how to clear the cyclone under the mesh. Here is what I did - A can of condensed air did a marvelous job of cleaning all of the fine, accumulated dust under the mesh. Remove the filter first! Works wonders. This is not addressed in this video, nothing in Dyson manuals.

I am thrilled!!! A few years ago, after 10+ years, my first Dyson Animal wore out. Not satisfied with other vacuums I bought to replace my original Dyson Animal, I was fortunate to purchase a Dyson DC65. After 3 months, I cleaned the filters with ease but I wanted to take the bin off to clean. I was so excited about how easy it is to remove the bin. I love to vacuum and this vacuum is so easy to use. Thank you, Dyson for enhancing my vacuuming experience.

I did clean the cyclone 5/28. Filter too. I used the shower massage in the tub and just kept running water into it, then turning upside down, over and over until no more dirty dark water with pieces of black stuff, eventually the water was clear. Then I shook it and stood it in front of a fan on low speed over night while on a towel. Then I placed it in front of the heating vent the next morning-it is May 29th, 2019 in Illinois but sooo cold I had to put on the heat. Today, 5/30 in the am, reassembled the vacuum, turned on and viola, working fine, picking up, no problem seen.

You can use water to clean out the cyclone portion. The trick is you MUST LET IT DRY. Most people do not have the patience. It may take 48 hours or so. That is why Dyson has told their customers not to wash the cyclone. Another way to clean the cyclone is to use another vacuum that has good suction. It is possible to vacuum out most the dirt and dust that collects around and behind the screen. Also, use the vacuum on the bottom portion to remove dust. Happy vacuuming all.

If you separate the cyclone halves (3 screws), you can absolutely clean it out with water. You need to do this to unclog all the little passages. Blow it dry with a blow gun, then let it sit for a day to dry even further. If you don't do this, and replace the motor filters every couple of years, your machine will steadily lose suction (Dyson's claims to the contrary notwithstanding).

The bin is clean, but I dare say if you hold the cyclone upright and strike the sides, ample dust will fall from the interior, and the fine mesh of the screen is still dirty. Dyson may claim that there is a limit of how much additional dirt will accumulate and it will not exceed harmful amounts, but I take mine apart and clean with water, and dry. The only residue will be contaminants in the water, such as calcium and iron, depending on the quality of your water. If I lived in Flint I wouldn't do it. It takes some patience and skills to deal with the two compression springs and the friction clips around the top, however. The process shown in the video complies with the manufacturers instructions, and I should think that the machine will function, as desired.

Vacuum stores will routinely disassemble the cyclone into separate pieces when servicing Dyson vacuums. They wash these separate prices with high pressure sprayer, laundry detergent, and rubbing alcohol. They then let them dry for a 24-48 hrs in front of a fan before reassembling. If you clean yours at as you already do, and it has an odor, you may need to deep clean the cyclone by taking it apart and washing the components.

Woopnik I found you very entertaining and that is half of the battle. You get the message across very well. I have had Dyson Vacuums since 1993 and every one has been washed using the shower. I have a extra long bottle brush for the hose. 1) disconnect the hose 2) Holding the two ends together fill it with hot water, but do not extend it. 3) give it a shake (using both hands) and then extend it (ensuring to keep the ends upright - it should be in an extended "U" shape); keeping it upright. Extending it helps release the dirt. 4) empty it and depending on how dirty it is, refill the now not extended hose with water and repeat the process. 5) Empty water out. if you have a large bottle brush, push it through and flush water through. NOTE: do not leave your hose in a bucket to soak. Doing this will cause stubborn dirt to not fully remove itself and it will set like cement.

Hello Kerry. A damp or musty smell is caused when dust in the cyclone has come into contact with water. As in your case the smell may occur if the filter goes back into the machine wet. Moisten a cloth with undiluted vinegar. Wipe off the exterior of the vacuum with the vinegar. Deodorize the receptacle and interior areas, where the bagless receptacle and filter go, by wiping them with the vinegar-moistened cloth. Dry the vacuum with a clean cloth. Place two drops of vanilla extract on a cotton ball. Drop the cotton ball into the dust bin before securing it to the vacuum to prevent odor from building up. Vanilla extract is an effective natural odor absorber. I hope I was of any help. Let me know how it went.

You are very welcome. You might have to apply vinegar multiple times. You may use also fabric sheets. Just make sure the Dyson is absolutely dry before you use it again. Have a great day 😀😋👍

How do I get the odor out if I can’t use vinegar water or some other liquid cleaner? The previous owner had 3 large dogs. When I open the cyclone, my whole room is blasted w terrible odor. Even w 2 new filters, the odor comes out when vacuuming. Please, can anyone tell me how to get the odor out?

Could you use an air compressor to spray out the cyclone part?
@ahmedmalik49406 жыл бұрын
You absolutely can. I did this the other day with my air compressor. Do this outside in the backyard or something so you don’t have airborne dust inside your home. He does mention not to use water on the cyclone part only to use a brush on the mesh. I actually used water to clean that out. Used my air compressor to air it dry then let it sit for a day. It works perfectly without an issue. I’ve been using my dyson dc66 for about 2 years now. My wife loves it, I love it, and my family always asks us how we keep the carpets so clean. Before this purchase I was about to invest $1200 in a central vacuum system and I’m glad I haven’t made that jump yet. Maybe in the future who knows.

There are 5 clips above the fine mesh, you insert a screwdriver above these clips and pry it apart. These two units must come apart as fine dander gets caught behind these screens. Once the two pieces are apart you can wash these screens with a spray of hot water for a proper clean.

Thanks for this information. Finally I cleaned the vacuum cleaner thoroughly.

Yes! I use a compressor to hit the cyclone from many angles until the cloud of dusty smoke stops. It is quite a dirty job, though. I put a rain poncho and rubber gloves on before I do to try and not come back in the house looking like I survived a dust storm in the desert.

Then wash it

There is still a lot of dust behind the screen. What to do??
@Woopnik6 жыл бұрын
With an air compressor you can blow out the dust bin.

There are 5 clips above the screens, insert a flat screwdriver and pry the unit off these clips, then you can dump the fines and wash with water. This guy does not go far enough with these cleaning instructions.

Thank you for the information Lynn as to how to clean the fine dirt from inside the mesh screen! My husband just bought me the Dyson ball and after seeing all the dust inside the screen it drove me crazy since I wanted to clean it out and was frustrated after looking through the entire manual and it said nothing about cleaning out the screen. This is my second Dyson and I love them. Can someone explain to me why it is that dust collects beneath the cyclone also instead of just in the bottom of the dust bin? Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

You are very funny. I had a Dyson for 20 years and I think that is why it lasted so long because I kept it clean. It finally died.

I personally use a glove to get the dust out and then hose everything down. Let it dry for a day and done!

I pushed the button and wiggled the canister and it will not come apart. I'm afraid I will break the plastic...why can't they have a second button to easily detach the canister?
@Woopnik5 жыл бұрын
Hello R S. I don’t know why there is not a second button. You can apply force to the canister. It is very sturdy. Try it again with some force. 😀
